The Unexpected Trip

Sage P.O.V. "Get your ass in here right f*****g now!" Alpha yelled from inside our cabin. I sighed, plucking a couple more berries from the bush behind our little cabin and put them in the small wooden bowl with the other ones I had collected. I walked back into the cabin from the back door and set the bowl down on the table. Quickly brushing myself off, I clasped my hands in front of me and walked into the front room where Alpha was waiting. I lowered my head, as a sign of submission and respect, and walked up to him. "Forgive me, Alpha, I was out collecting berries for dinner," I told him, not daring to look up at him because I knew of the consequences. I was answered by a hard backhand to my cheek. It almost knocked me to the floor, but I've been through this so many times I've gotten used to it. This was how our interactions usually went. "Don't make me wait again," he growled. "Come on, get your cloak on, we're going somewhere." Now that did make me look up at him. Never, in my twenty-one years of living here with him, has he ever let me leave this cabin. I was restricted to only being allowed half a mile out. He told me that because I was human, I would be killed on the spot for living in supernatural woods. Alpha looked back at me impatiently. "What the f**k are you waiting for? I'm not going to ask so nicely again," he said. This time, I didn't waste a second going to the tiny closet that held all of my clothes. I found my tattered grey cloak and threw it around myself, tying the strings in front of my chest. I thought about grabbing a book to read on the walk, but that just might upset Alpha further, so I decided against it. I walked to the front door where he was waiting, and stepped out with my bare feet touching soil. Something felt different in the Earth today. It almost felt as if some type of power or energy was coming through and up into my body. It made me shiver. I heard Alpha shutting the door behind me and walking in front of me. "Come now, just follow me," he sighed. We started walking into the deep forest. Now, some of you may be wondering how I ended up here. Alpha said that when I was just a baby my parents had abandoned me and that I was lucky he was kind enough to take me in. It's been just the two of us living in this small cabin in the middle of the woods. He is an older man, with a long bushy beard and raggedy hair to match and he's also a werewolf. Sometimes, he will leave for weeks at a time and those are the best times. He may tell me he's kind and cares for me, but I've read enough books to know that that's not true. And the worst part is that he will sometimes come back with two or three "friends" and they will all be drunk, trying to have their way with me. It started after I turned twelve, and most times I would just run away and sleep under a tree or something. After a few years of doing that, I grew tired of running and started training myself. Then, I started fighting them off. It was easy enough because they would all be drunk anyway, but it still sucked. I only have a few good moves I know, but I'm definitely not the best fighter in the world. Especially up against a bunch of wolves. We had been walking for over an hour and a half and, honestly, I was enjoying it. Seeing all the new sights, there was a beautiful waterfall that lead into a tiny stream and the water was so clear, you could see the fish and little tadpoles swimming around. At one point, there was even a bear with her two cubs roaming around looking for lunch. I smiled at the sight of them. I wish I knew what it was like to have a mother. We continued on for another hour when Alpha turned to me with an annoyed look. I braced myself for what was about to come. He grabbed me harshly by the hair and forced me to look at him. "Put your f*****g hood up now," he said through gritted teeth. He let me go with a push and I quickly complied to his orders. We kept walking for about twenty more minutes when I suddenly heard footsteps all around us. "Stop right where you are, rogues," a powerful voice said right in front of us. "You dare try to pass into Kingdom territory?" I looked up at three men. They were all shirtless and, Goddess, they were the most beautiful creatures I had ever seen before. Sculpted to perfection. "Of course not," Alpha replied calmly, "I wish to speak with the King." Wait, what? King? Immediately, my heartbeat sped up and my palms became clammy. What was he doing taking me to a King? What the hell is going on? The three men surrounding us became quiet, probably talking to each other through their minds. Alpha told me about how werewolves can do that when they are connected through a pack or something else. Alpha turned to look at me with hatred and irritation in his eyes. "Calm yourself the f**k down, w***e. Remember, nobody f*****g wants you," he whispered angrily. I just nodded and put my head back down. "Alright, you two will follow me," the man who spoke earlier said. He turned on his heel and started walking, with Alpha and I following behind. We were walking for ten or fifteen minutes when a gigantic castle came into view. I felt my jaw drop as we walked into the clearing. The sun shone brightly against the stone walls and there were too many windows to count. I was in complete awe of it. We walked up to two huge wooden doors that the man pushed open with ease. I could hear murmurs going all around us and felt the eyes of probably a hundred people on us. I started ringing my hands, something I usually do when I get nervous, besides biting my nails. We made our way up to a large staircase that seemed like it went on forever. I'd say we were walking up the stairs for ten minutes, I don't know how many floors. Finally we made our way to the top of the staircase. I could already feel how sore my legs were going to be after all this walking. We followed the man down a long hallway until we came upon two double oak doors. The man turned to us with a deadly look. "If either of you try anything, I will not waste a second in cutting your heads off. Understand?" "Noted," Alpha said while I nodded. The man turned and knocked on the door while Alpha turned to me. "Keep your head down," he said. And so I did. "Enter," a silky voice came from the other side. The man pushed the doors open and then stepped aside for us to enter. My heartbeat picking up once again, we stepped through the threshold and into the office of an awaiting King.
