Chapter 1: leaving home

591 Words
-JASMINE POV- I check my watch and sigh. 5 minutes before the taxi arrives. Luckily I planned ahead for once in my life and managed to pack everything last week but that doesn't mean I am ready to leave. With one last glance around my little room finishing with the bed, I pick up my suitcases and head downstairs. Oh how I shall miss that bed... My parents stand in the hall talking amongst themselves. When they hear me clump through the door they both shoot me a sad look, to which I roll my eyes. They've spent the last month telling me how sorry they are for making me move to America but I call bullshit; if they were really sorry they wouldn't be forcing me to leave England and I wouldn't have to change all my plans. I know that makes me sound a bit bratty but this has been my home my whole life and I am devastated to be leaving my friends and my life behind. My brother Matt made the same move 2 years ago when he turned 18. Apparently the schools in America are better and we have family connections out there.  The taxi beeping outside drags me out of my thoughts and I march headstrong outside not looking behind. ---------------------------------------------------------- I'm awoken by the plane jumping a little as it makes contact with the runway. Grunting, I look around and see my mother peering out the window beside me. I don't have many talents but I do have the ability for England.  Once we are off the plane and have all our luggage, we walk out of the airport. Well walk is a bit strong. It's more of a sleepwalk. A very attractive man that reminds me a bit of tarzan stands holding a sign with the Fowkes on it. Suddenly feeling self conscious of my 'I just woke up from hibernation' look, I can only smile sheepishly at the model standing in front of us before I think eh f**k it and stick my shades on to block out any unnecessary light. We follow the man to a sleek black car which looks way too clean and expensive for my family and I raise my eyebrows at my dad. Tarzan gets in the drivers seat and we pull out smoothly. It must be said this is a bit of an upgrade from my beaten down green nissan micra back home. As we drive along, I'm completely taken aback by the scenery: beautiful green woodlands span the motorway for most of the journey and the Sun is high in the sky, shining golden light through the leaves. It's mesmerising. After about an hour and a half, Tarzan, who is actually called Ben I discover, turns off the motorway and takes us down a road leading straight through the forest. The trees arch over and I feel a little like snow white riding through the glen with her furry friends. Before long we are entering a clearing and 2 big gates open for us. The clearing is huge, with little cute houses dotted all over and people milling around the place. In the distance, a beautiful mansion stands proud and I can't help but gasp. We pull up outside said house and my parents hop out, however I seem to be frozen in my seat. I'm suddenly intimidated which is very unlike me. Noticing my discomfort, Ben turns to me and looks me over. "It's gonna be ok you know. We don't bite" he smiles at me. I smile back and open the car door. "JAZZY?!"
