How we met

609 Words
I simply can't believe that I must wait for more than four hours for some piece of paper. It can't be that hard to print a testament, not that I inherited more than the right to walk my mother to her grave. I raise my hand to touch the necklace she gave me before she died and let a solitary tear to drop. I promised myself that I'll be strong, at least in public, but it seems it's harder than I anticipated. Lost in my thoughts I almost miss the secretary that is waving at me. I stand up and force myself to smile at her even though I am so pissed that I simply want to scream. She doesn't return the smile and hardly gives me a bored look before turning to her computer. "Name?" God, I hate the tone she uses. I feel like she is the teacher and I am the annoying student that won't just shut up. "Erica Coner" I try to smile again but still pointless. Before she can say anything, her eyes are distracted by something behind me. She quickly stands up like she is a forty-something years old she-soldier and...SMILES! I turn around to see what made her change her attitude only to be toward by what I can only describe as the hottest man I have ever seen. While I collect my jaw from the floor, the man gives the secretary a fast order that I fail to catch and leaves as fast as he came. "You have to come again tomorrow." "What?!" I'll need a mop for my jaw today.  "You heard him, I have something else to do, come again tomorrow." And with that, she disappears behind a door in the back of the office. No no no no! If I don't take that document today I won't be able to hold the funeral tomorrow, and there is no way I can reschedule! Why can't anything work out today?! THE MAN! Before I can think of anything else I grab my bag and I run after that well-dressed Adonis. I catch him climbing in his Porsche. A goddamn last-generation Porche! "HEY!"  He gives me an uninterested look before shutting the door of his car. Asshole... I throw myself in front of the car, forcing him to get out of it. "I have a meeting to attend and it's an important one so step back, please." He takes a look at my cheap, black clothes and put on a superior smile. I already hate him. "And I have to attend a funeral, but I can't since you cut the line back there. So can you, please, go back there and ask that lady to give me my document since she seems to listen to you more than to common-sense and I will be on my way without taking your time." "No, I can't" And with that, he turns around and goes to his car. I simply can't believe it... Who does he think he is? "Hey, can you stop being an asshole for a second and..." I can't finish my sentence since he abruptly turns to me, towering me again with his body. I wish I wouldn't blush. His deep black eyes throw fire, as the only sign of his anger, while his face is still unperturbed. "Well, I am an asshole and I really don't care about you or whatever useless person died. I just care about my time being wasted!" And just like that... I snapped. All the horrible things that happened, the rain, the rude secretary, the asshole, the death of my mother, the fact that I sold everything for her treatment and still had to watch her die, they came back to me at once. And... I punched him. Hard! I'm screwed!
