Prologue

The room was stifling. I swung my chair and faced the large windows facing the dark bright lights of the buildings and the distant sparkle of the stars.  I contemplated what my life had become and asked myself, what is there to live for?  Why do I feel almost left out? At the young age of 15, my dad, who had lung cancer, bequeathed me a small company called Musical Mayhem, a small company that creates and distributes musical instruments to private and public schools.  At first, the handling of a company was not in my vocabulary but since I owe my only parent my loyalty and devotion, I started to learn how to run it.  During high school, I learned how to play the violin and soon enough became the first chair of the school's orchestra.  Many were impressed by my achievements and good looks that I used it to successfully advertise and provide for the orchestra the needed maintenance equipment to keep their instruments well tuned. During a tour in London, my maternal grandmother made herself known to me and I found out the truth about my heritage.  I was the son of a freaking princess.  My parent was disowned when they found out that she was having an affair with her bodyguard and they decided to move to America.  When she heard that I was in London for a musical tour, she decided to introduce herself to me and make my inheritance known to me. At the age of 17, I was knighted by the queen of England herself for doing a personal service for her during a concert that I had done at Buckingham.  My grandmother was proud of my achievements and gave me access to my mother's shares, inflaming the jealousy of my uncles and cousins.  A true golden boy, a well known achiever but I rejected every offer to have my picture taken on any platform.   Back in America, my company has bloomed into an empire that everyone is trying to sink their teeth into.  Time magazine even wanted to have my picture taken for its cover. Accomplished Rich Genius Miserable But why should I feel miserable?  I have the world at my feet.  I am completely adored by my grandmother.  Everyone wants a piece of me. I am so alone. I sighed deeply as I read the finance reports.  I need something to do. "David, I'll be taking a time off from work." "But sir..." I stood up from my chair and looked again at the outside world.  A world that I felt I had too much of for the past five years.  Will I miss this world of mine? I smirked at the thought and finished all the paper works that needed my signature. "I will let you know when I will be back.  Please hold the fort for me, will you?" David, my longtime friend and almost brother, smiled at me and sighed in defeat. "Of course, sir.  Will that be all?" "For now.  See you when I see you."  I tell him as I bid farewell to this life.
