Chapter 1
(Helena's POV) "What are you doing?! Let go of me!" I screamed at him as I tried to free myself from his vice-like grip. Tears streamed down on my cheeks as he pinned me on the king-sized bed in this unfamiliar bedroom. "You are mine, Helena." Lightning cracked the dark skies outside the huge window, illuminating his handsome but cruel features. His bloodshot eyes looked at me with lust. He bent his head and pressed his lips on mine... Seven months earlier.... *Kriiiiiiiiing* Ugh! I groaned as I stopped my damned alarm clock. I stood up and got out of my small bed lazily. I stretched out my arms and grunted. Today is the day that I dreaded the most; the first day of my last year at senior high. Another set of subjects but still the same faces… Still the same old permissive teachers and cruel classmates. Still the same cruel jokes that they play upon the weirdo freak, Helena Blackthorn- that's me. I entered my bathroom and had a quick cold shower to awaken my body system. I put on a long-sleeved black shirt and put a gray hoodie over it and a skirt that reaches my ankles. brushed my unruly brown hair that reaches my waist while looking at the large mirror on my wall. I looked at my chocolate brown eyes underneath my plastic rimmed oversized glasses. I know I look stupid, but I don't care. I don't give much fuss about my physical appearance anyway. I slung my heavy backpack on one shoulder and ran down the stairs. I entered the kitchen and found my mother dozing on the kitchen table in front of her now freezing black coffee and uneaten pancakes. She suddenly raised her head and looked at me blearily. "Good morning, sweetie." She yawned. "Morning mom. Tiring night at the hospital?" I asked. "Yes. A string of vehicular accidents happened nearby, and the emergency room had been in chaos. All the doctors and nurses don't know what to do first." She laughed. "And here I am, thinking that being a nurse is all about caring for an old or sick patient. I never thought I have to work overtime just to buy groceries..." She groaned. "If only your stupid dad didn’t leave us for that woman..." "Stop whining," I said and poured myself some coffee from the maker. I drank it and grimaced. "Instant coffee…" I groaned. "Sorry, sweetie. We’re out of stock." She smiled sheepishly. "I'm going," I said and made my way to the front door of our tiny apartment "You haven't eaten your breakfast, Helena!" She shouted. "I don't do breakfast, mom." I groaned and shut the door. Thirty minutes later later.... "Get out of my way, freak." Julian Ashcroft, the only son of the local department store owner, and unfortunately, my personal bully and classmate pushed me aside while I was walking on the crowded hallway. I fell down and landed on my butt painfully. The students around us just laughed and no one attempted to help me. I mentally rolled my eyes. Who would want to help a weirdo? I stood up and glared at him. Julian may be as beautiful as an angel, but he is a demon deep down. He has blond hair and stormy gray eyes which made him famous with girls and gays alike. That, along with the fact that he is extremely rich and lives on a huge mansion made him a bully, a jerk and a playboy. "Just ignore her, Julian." Riley Keenan, Jacksonville cheer leading captain and his girlfriend sneered at me and put her arms around him. I dully noted that most of the people surrounding them are members of the cheering squad and Basketball team. She kissed him passionately and the people around them cheered as if they were movie stars. Maybe they really are. A little voice inside my head said. Riley is the only daughter of a famous actor and her mother is a well-known fashion designer. I started walking away from them. Pretending that I cannot hear Julian's cruel remarks or Riley's giggling. And even sadly... My schoolmates’ jeering. Even the members of the student council were there, although they were very silent. I frowned when I noticed Michael Sinclair, the student Council president who stood on one side, staring at me intently while clenching his fists, a dark look on his boyish face. Maybe he wanted to help me. But he cannot because Julian is his cousin. Their mothers are sisters. They even look like brothers. Both have blond hair. Only, Julian has golden blond hair while Michael has the hair that has the shade the same as the color of wet beach sand. Well... Welcome to Jacksonville High. The only High School in the little old town of Jacksonville where everything seems to be from a 1980s Hollywood movie. I found myself walking alone on a deserted hallway. I sighed. It's better when I'm alone than when I'm on the crowd because I can never blend in. "Hey there!" A voice spoke behind me and I turned around to see an unfamiliar looking guy. He's actually good looking. With dark brown hair and sea green eyes. He wears dark framed glasses and dark blue tees matched with skinny jeans and white Adidas. He smiled innocently at me and I frowned. I didn't respond and just turned my back to him. "Hey! I'm Lucas Parker and I am from Washington so I'm new here. Mind if I ask your name?" He said. Explains the reason why he approached an outcast like me. "And why would I give my name to a complete stranger?" I raised my eyebrows at him. "Because I'm new here and I just want to be friendly?" He said, still smiling. "Helena Blackthorn." I said and turned around. "Uhm... See you around Helena!" He said happily. I can't believe I just said my name to a total stranger. I just shook my head and continued walking to our homeroom. I entered our classroom only to find it deserted. I groaned inwardly, I forgot that our school usually has a 'back to school' program every first day of class. Oh great! I thought. I never attended any of those. I just went to my seat which is on the back portion of the spacious room. Maybe a nap won't hurt. I still feel sleepy... (Someone's POV) She's here... Just what I thought. She's sitting on her chair with her face burrowed on her folded arms. Her eyeglasses hanging on her oversized blouse. She looks so pretty. She may hide her beauty, but I know what is underneath all those trash she calls a clothing. And she's all mine. I thought selfishly. I clenched my fists when I remembered that guy earlier. I never went to this cheap school just to watch my Helena with other boys. I could have gone to a better school where no cheap sluts exist but no, I went here because Helena is here. She's all mine. Should I kill him like what I did to that man? Not yet. I decided. Too early. How about the other? The one who keeps on trying to make her notice him all this time. No not yet too. They will have to wait. But when I kill them, they will die a painful death just like that Helena's father. Oh yes! I killed him. He did not run away with some slut just like what they believed. I forged his handwriting and left a note on their mailbox. Poor Mrs. Blackthorn... Her beloved husband is already six feet under the ground somewhere on the neighboring town's cemetery. I killed him simply because I don't want anyone to go near my Helena. Not even her dad. She's mine ever since she is a child. I watched her grow up, I watched her laugh with her mum and dad, I watched her get bullied and I watched her cry all night. Those tears... I almost moaned. Helena is so pretty when she cries and that's what made me obsessed with her. Her laughter and tears... They should exclusively be mine. With that thought, I walked towards her sleeping form. I know she wouldn't wake up easily anyway. I visited her in bed countless nights before. The most recent one just last night, right after I came back from a business trip with my dad. I even claimed her first kiss on her fifteenth birthday while she was asleep. But that's not all. I cuddled with her, caressed her sleeping body and stayed by her side all night for three years without her knowing. I grinned and pushed strand of hair away from her face. I kissed her cheek, then her forehead, and finally her soft pink lips. I immediately went out of the room afterwards. I still have some things to settle before the class starts.
