Chapter 1 | Part 1: Levishia of Ralenti
LEVISHIA QUINTESSENCE "Princess, just focus. Feel the power inside you and think of a naughty monster," my trainer instructed as he walked around me. I deeply breathed and closed my eyes. I canceled the noise of my trainer's footsteps and let myself be indulged in solitude. After a few moments, I tried to think of an Imp, the naughtiest monster and the only one with the most unstable thoughts. I thought about its form and imagined myself as the one I'm thinking of. I tried to think about its eyes, its personality, and its ferociousness. I felt my own form changing, my stomach turning, and I felt like puking. But I kept it all inside until I felt the physical alteration was done. I didn't open my eyes until I noticed that my thoughts were changing from serenity and peacefulness to mockery and mischievousness. I also had the sudden desire to prank humans and fly down to hell. But that's not my priority right now, I have to focus, to keep my purpose straight. I opened my eyes and I was instantly met by an unfathomable creature with burnt red skin, rotten wings, and devil horns on the sides of my head. I had on a mischievous smirk and a vexatious emotion in my coal-black eyes. I had no irises, for my whole eye was coated black. I looked around the hexagonal training room, all sides filled with mirrors. This place was made exclusively for me, for my ability. I looked down at my trainer who took a few steps back, avoiding my wings. He was a few feet smaller than my Imp form. "Do you have the upper hand, Princess?" He queried. I smirked and saw the flash of fear in his eyes. "Of course I do," I replied with a hoarse, high-pitched voice. He deeply sighed. "Good, now you can shift back." I nodded and closed my eyes again. I canceled the trainer's presence again and focused on transforming back. I listened to the erratic heartbeat of my Imp form, this Imp is pulsing with adrenaline, in complete contrast to my human form, which is always calm and collected. I took a few heavy breaths to steady my heartbeat and imagined my human body's form. I felt the familiar sensation, my stomach turning, my mind swirling, my thoughts changing, and my body transforming. A few moments later, I heard slow claps. "Congratulations, Princess. You have adequate control over your shapeshifting ability." I slowly opened my eyes, and immediately saw my reflection on the mirror. I was back to my original form—a slender, tall, and porcelain white female. That was the biggest challenge I've ever done. To control my thoughts and the creature I'm taking shape. A small smile crept up to my lips. I did it. I'm ready for the crown. ☫ I had a small smile as I briskly walked to the throne room where my parents are at to inform them of the exciting news—I can now control unstable creatures' forms! I've heard of a messenger for all the kingdoms visiting ours and now they're discussing something in the throne room but I could care less, this is the biggest news for me! Being the only person in this castle, kingdom even, to be gifted with an ability and now be able to have full control over it is overwhelming. I couldn't contain such happiness so I have to go and report this to my father and mother. When I reached the giant golden double doors to the throne room, I was greeted by two of our royal guards on either side of the door. I calmly greeted them and waited for them to open the door for me. But it didn't come. I baffledly looked at the two. The one on the left bowed as a sign of courtesy and kept his head down. "We're sorry, your highness, but we aren't allowed to let anyone in," the warrior stiffly uttered. "Not even me?" I slightly tilted my head. "It was an order from the King himself, your highness." How important is their discussion, really? I've never been stopped by the royal guards. As an only child of the King and Queen, I was favored by my parents and almost everyone. Why would they shut me out? I sighed and turned around. I'm just gonna go to the garden and pour all of my excitement and joy into the plants. Discovering new plants and their uses has always been my hobby, I loved botany ever since. And with the wide variety of plants that our castle's garden has, I am free to explore. I also have my own notebook, jotting down notes about different plants that could be of use in the future. I have formulated herbs and done some experiments on them, too. One could basically say that I'm a nerd. Once I reached the garden, I went to the gazebo and sat there. Admiring the beauty of nature. I sighed and closed my eyes. I focused once more and figured I could just use this spare time to enhance my now-controlled ability instead of sulking because my parents didn't want me to enter the throne room. I reached out to a red rose nearby's presence. As soon as I got a hold of it, I immediately imagined the flower's thorns on my forearm. I'm testing if I can copy a characteristic of a flower by just sensing its presence to garner energy. I'm trying to see if I can semi-shift. I slowly felt a few prickly thorns poking my right forearm. I quickly opened my eyes and looked at my forearm. Green sharp thorns were coming out of it. I gasped. It worked! But someone might see this, I can't risk it. Only my parents and my trainer know about my ability. I relaxed myself again and thought of smoothing out my forearm. A few moments later, it went back to its original smooth and porcelain skin. As if on cue, I saw a royal guard come out from the palace and went in my direction. He stopped right outside of the gazebo and bowed his head. "Your Highness, the King has summoned you to the throne room," he reported, his head hung low. I almost rolled my eyes. So now they're summoning me when they just denied me access earlier? I didn't say anything else and just followed the royal guard back to the throne room, the bottom of my white dress touching the marble floors. The two guards I saw earlier now bowed and silently opened the double doors. Inside, I saw my parents on their thrones, and in front of them is a masculine man wearing commoner clothing, he must be the messenger. He bowed in my presence as I walked past him and stopped in front of the King and Queen's thrones. I bowed. "You called?" "Rise, Quin. Sit on your throne," my father commanded, addressing me by my nickname. I silently did as told and sat on my throne made of iron and ruby. My father's was made of diamonds and my mother's was made of gold. This was the idea of my father; he always loved bragging about the kingdom's riches. "Your majesty, we will need Ralenti's representative by next week. The warrior is to travel to the kingdom of Giraen by chariot and may be back after a few years," the messenger spoke. My brows immediately furrowed in confusion. What is this all about? "Alright, I understand. You may go now, you will be escorted by my guards to a room where you will stay for the time being," the King replied. I looked at him, completely baffled. The messenger was escorted outside before bowing his head for the last time. And I turned to my parents. "Is there anything you want to speak to me about?" I asked them. My mother sighed and looked at me, her eyes speak it all—she was stressed. "Quin, we need to talk," she seriously stated. "About?" "My princess, you're turning twenty soon," my father interfered, "You need a husband. Someone who can rule Ralenti alongside you righteously." Oh, we're on this topic again. "I told you already, I have no man in my mind who can be my husband." I sighed. "I can rule Ralenti alone; I've been trained my whole life." "You were born to be a leader, we know. But we need to make sure our legacy goes on before we leave the world, Quin," Father insisted. "I will give you grandchildren, but I just can't right now. I'm still too young!" I exclaimed, losing my poise. "Of course, find a man first, Quin," Father agreed. "I will, but in the far future." Mother sighed exasperatedly. "Just keep training for now, Quin. I need to discuss something with my King," she ended the argument. I gulped and left my throne, bowing in front of them before going to the door. I was about to close the door when I heard them conversing as soon as I got out. Or they think I got out. I signaled the two guards to keep quiet as I tried to eavesdrop. I kept the door a bit open so I can still hear their voices echoing in the silent room. "Who will we send on that deadly mission, Leon? None of our warriors are skilled enough to find King Piraen's sword and bring down Rivolus!" My mother raised her tone, worry evident in her voice. Rivolus? King Piraen's Sword? "We need to send our strongest troop leader then. He's our strongest," he answered. "He will obviously die in battle! We will lose such a great warrior," my Mother objected. "Then he will die a heroic death and be Ralenti's pride and honor." I turned around and walked back to my room. I'm ready to browse the books of our library to find out who Rivolus is, and how to find King Piraen's sword. I am determined to prove to my parents that I need no man to rule Ralenti, that I deserve the throne, and that I will be a powerful Queen.
