Chapter 1: Wait, What?!
Pain.  It was all I felt.  Pain, unbearable pain.  I tried to get away from it but when I moved I heard someone say, “Hold her down!”  It felt like I was moving.  White.  The only color was white.  Then black… Beep… Beep… Beep… Beep  “I think she’s coming to!  Go get the doctor!”  I heard a voice that sounded like my mom's.  I groan and move around.  Beep… Beep “Can someone please turn off that annoying sound.”  I say hoarsely.  Someone laughs through crying.  I open my eyes and I see my mom, dad, and two of my brothers.  The oldest comes in with a doctor.  “What…happened?”I ask.  “You were shot twice.”  The doctor says.  My mom starts to cry again.  “Where?”  I ask another question.  “The first time in the leg, then in the side.  The second time the bullet fractured a rib and punctured a lung.” No doubt they saw the other bullet wounds.  I’ve been shot before.  The doctor was probably not mentioning for my parents. “How long was I out?’’  “One week.”  That’s what shocked me.  One week of only sleeping nothing else. FlashBack- “Artemis wins!!  Again!’’  The Ring leader announces.  There are cheers and boos throughout the crowd.  The boos are because people lost a lot of money.  I raise my hands and the cheers get louder.  The guy I just knocked out groans.  I turn to him and help him get up and get to his corner.  It’s my trademark.  I help the people I beat.  My manager says I shouldn’t do that.  He also says that fighters are supposed to be cold and heartless.  He’s dead wrong.  “Anyone else?!” I yell at the audience.  This one guy comes up and says, “This ought to be easy.”  I smirk at him.  People cast bets.  From what I hear it's mostly in my name.  “3… 2… 1… Fight!”  Everything except what’s in the ring disappears.  It’s just me and the guy.  He steps with his right foot so that means he’s left-handed.  That’s why he thought he could beat me.  But he can’t.  I easily dodge his first swing and elbow his side.  That through him off balance.  He groans and stumbles to the left.  There are even more cheers.  “Well, not so easy is it?”  I tell him.  He just glares at me and charges.  I easily dodge him and trip him.  I hear laughs from the crowd.  He gets up again and holds his fists up.  I come up to him and he tries to hit me but I dodge him and when I see an opening I punch him on the temple.  He stands stunned then falls over.  “And the winner is … Artemis!”  There are a lot of cheers.  I bend down to help the guy up but he just pushes me away and whispers, “You’ll regret that, bitch.’’  No one else hears him but it rings loud and clear in my ears.  I let him get up on his own and walk out of the ring.   “Finally hardening that heart of yours, are we?”  My manager asks.  “Where’s my money?” I ask him and he just laughs and hands me a big stack of cash.  “Call me when there’s a direct challenge to me, alright?  No sooner.”  I tell him and walk out.  We don’t have a good relationship.  All he cares about is getting a good fighter.  I just want to fight so we don’t really talk.   In the parking lot, I hear someone following me but I pretend I don’t notice.  “Hey, b***h!  Come here now!”  It’s the guy from the ring.  I ignore him and continue to my bike.  “I know you heard me!”  He grabs my arm and punches me in the face.  I hold my nose.  I think it’s broken.  He hears me groan.  And he laughs.  “Wasn’t expecting that were you?”  I fix my nose wondering what my parents would think of it.  They don’t know I fight.  Whenever I get a serious injury I just stay at my friend Nick’s place.  His real name is Dominic, but he prefers everyone to call him Nick.  But this week Nick’s going on a trip with his family.  I realize that the guy pulled out a gun.  “What are you going to do with that gun?”  I ask him very calmly.  “You don’t need to worry about that.”  He says in a sickly sweet voice.  Oh, no.  I think right before a huge bang and searing pain in my leg.  I kneel on the ground and I hear another bang.  This time it was my side that was on fire.  I fall the rest of the way to the ground.  I see someone running up to me but it's blurry.  The guy vanished, probably to brag to his friend that he shot the girl who beat him up.  Everything goes black. Right now- That night keeps flashing through my eyes.  The doctor checked my breathing and pulse.  “You're fine for being in your position.  Good thing you are very healthy.”  He tells me but I only half pick it up.  Hermes, the youngest at age 7 sits next to me curled up asleep.  Then the doctor turns to my parents and says, “You should be able to take Artemis home in a few more days.”  He turns and walks out.  Aries comes and sits on the edge of my bed.  I know our names are weird.  Our brother’s name is Amos.  One thing I should probably tell you is that I’m a triplet with Aries and Amos.  One thing you might say is that only Aries, Hermes, and I have greek gods names but Amos is the greek form of Cupid.  It definitely suits my Amos.  He’s kind of a playboy.  I can’t keep his girlfriend straight, except for one girl named Kathrine.  She and Amos are always off and on.  Aries on the other hand, he’s had one girlfriend his whole life and he’s 17!  He’s just a little too passive.  Aries's namesake is the opposite of him.  While the god Aries is the god of war and loves fighting, my Aries would prefer to sit in a quiet room and read a book avoiding people altogether.  Hermes is the literal incarnation of the actual god Hermes.  My Hermes can talk himself out of anything.  He always gets into mom's jewelry and dad's hats (our dad has a weird obsession with baseball hats) and they don’t notice until they go looking for it.  And finally for me.  Artemis the goddess is a maiden hunter.  Maiden meaning she will never marry anyone, have s*x or ever have kids.  I don’t mind hunting but I’m definitely no maiden.   Aries grabs my hand and squeezes it.  Aries and I have always been close.  Amos would prefer to hang out with his friends, and you never know where Hermes wonders off to. “Artemis,”  My mom gets me attention. “I don’t think it’s a good idea for you to stay in the town.”  I try to process this. “Wait.  Does that mean we’re moving?”  My dad grads my mom's hand and says, “No, it mean you’re going to a boarding school.  Across seas.” I can feel my face go white.  “Hell no!” I yell.
