Formerly Breaking with Tradition

******

His voice is even more alluring than I could  have imagined, like it’s pulling me closer to him. The next thing I know is that I’m pressed up against him with my head resting on his chest and my arms wrapped around him. At first he’s stiff like he doesn’t know what to do, but then he relaxes into my embrace, wrapping his strong arms around my waist and resting his head on top of mine. I don’t know what is happening but being in his arms, I feel safe.

“Penelope, who the hell is this guy!?” I hear Achilles shout.

“I-I umm I don’t know...” I answered removing myself from his embrace, realizing that I have no clue who this guy is.

Alexius pulled me behind him as Achilles stands guard. Adonis comes running trying to figure out what happened and I hear small feet padding down the stairs.

“Azrael?” I hear Jo say looking towards the guy at the door. “What are you doing here?”

He doesn’t remove his gaze from me, only making my brothers more upset. “Lucifer sent me, we were supposed to have a family meeting but you never showed up.” he explains, his eyes never leaving my body.

“Why were you touching my sister?!?” yelled Alexius blocking me from his view.

“It was more like she was touching me, don’t you think sweets?” Azrael smirked sending me a wink causing shivers to run down my spine. His response only making my brothers growl in contempt.

“Wait. She touched you?” Jo asked.

“Surprising isn’t it?” responded Azrael.

“Jo you know this guy?” Adi looked towards Jo questioningly.

“He’s my brother.” Jo answers “Azrael, this is my boyfriend Adonis, his brothers, and sister Penelope.”

“Hello Penelope.”

Chapter 1: Meet the Family
PENELOPE POV “Can you please get out so I can finish getting ready, I don’t want to be late.” Adonis hissed at me. “Oh come on Adi let me help you pick out an outfit.”  I know he hates me calling him Adi but he’s my baby brother, he doesn’t have much of a say in this. Well baby brother might be an over exaggeration. He’s only 2 years younger than me, but I basically helped my parents raise them, so they’re just as much mine as they are my parents. I have three brothers, triplets, the only way we can distinguish them is by the hair and their respective styles. All three of them were tan and beautiful, with dark chocolate locs and beautiful grey eyes. I don’t know where they got the grey eyes from because both my parents and I had dark brown eyes almost black as coal. What irritated me the most was that they knew they were handsome and would never be told otherwise.  “Please don’t ever call me Adi in front of Jo,” Adonis yelled, “I really like her and I can’t have you embarrassing me.” “Me?!? I could never!” I said faking disdain.  I let out a soft chuckle, and as if on queue, tweedle dee and tweedle dumber walked in. “Aw are you getting all dressed up for Jo?” Alexius swooned dropping on Adi’s bed. “Leave him alone Lex,” cautioned Achilles, “you too P.” Although he may be younger than me, Achilles always acted like a big brother towards me. You can blame the Hispanic patriarchy for that one. My parents wanted their first born to be a male, but they got me instead. I always felt like they resented me for that. On their second try they not only got a boy but they got three, so I guess their prayers were answered. “We’re just joking Achilles, I just want to help him look his best.” I shot back. Achilles just glared at me as if saying I should shut it. I was never one to back down, especially not from my brothers. I may love them with all my heart but I will not be talked into submission.  “Is it weird that I’m nervous? I’m basically shaking right now.” mumbled Adonis. “It’d be weird if you weren’t,” I said. “It just means you really like her, she may even be the one.” “Really Penelope, the one? Stay single Adi, imagine all the damage the three of us could do.” chimed in Alexius.  Alexius and I may have differing opinions, but he was by far my favorite. He always treated me equally and never made me feel bad about my choices or breaking from tradition. He was a sweetheart, even though he acted like he wasn’t while he made his way through the female population. Achilles on the other hand was more traditional, he always stuck to the plan and made sure our parent’s concerns were heard no matter how unreasonable they were.  Adonis stood up trying to fix his tie but failing. “Here let me help you.” I said as I walked over to him.  “Adi you look handsome, you are so kind and loving, Jo would be a fool to let you go.” I added as I finished fixing his tie. “Thanks P, I appreciate it.” He said giving me a kiss on my forehead.  “Ok I have to go before I’m late, it wouldn’t leave a good impression.” Adonis yelled as he made his way out of the house. My brothers and I watched from the door as Adi got in his car and drove off.  We all still lived with our parents, and I would have moved out long ago, but they made sure that we couldn’t live without them. Now I’m not saying that we aren’t self sufficient humans, in fact we could all make it on our own if we wanted, but our parents have ingrained in us that family always comes first. No matter how much I wanted to live without them, I just couldn’t bring myself to leave my family. We crave familial connection, our culture told us that we are stronger as a unit and I believed it. “So, movie night anyone?” Alexius asked. ADONIS POV Ok just shake it out Adonis. You got this. You’ve been dating for three months now, you’ve gone on multiple dates, it’s no big deal. Just knock on her door and tell her how you really feel.  I gave myself a quick pep talk making my way to to her door. As I knocked on her door I couldn’t help but feel anxious. I have been wanting to ask Jo to be my girlfriend since the moment I laid eyes on her, but I didn’t want to scare her away being too clingy.  I was so lost in my own world that I didn’t even realize that she was already standing at the door. Jo was beautiful, she had soft long blonde hair with piercing blue eyes and the softest looking lips, she was wearing a tight body hugging black dress that showed off her figure with black heals. I had no idea how she even gave me a chance I’m so dumbfounded.  “Hi.” Is all my stupid ass could say just looking at her. “Hi gorgeous, are you ready?” She asked me in the softest voice.  “As ready as I’ll ever be.” I replied. I held her hand as we walked to the car and I opened the door for her helping her climb in. I may be a dumbass, but I have some common decency.  Our hands found themselves intertwined as soon as I got in the car. We drove in a comfortable silence, it was serene and just felt right. It took us about half an hour to get to the restaurant.  I ran out of the car and over to her side to open the door for her. As I held her hand, she jumped out of the car making her boobs bounce a little. I couldn’t help but get distracted.  I let the hostess know we were here for our reservation and we were promptly shown to our table. I requested a bottle of wine to get us started. The waiter soon brought it out and poured us a glass. Jo began to rub the lip of her glass making a slight hum. I’ve noticed that she does this whenever she’s nervous. “Is everything okay? Do you not like the wine?” I asked. “Everything is perfect Adonis. You’re perfect.” She said smiling back at me with those beautiful ocean eyes. “Are you sure, you look a bit nervous?” I replied. “I just found out my siblings are in town.” I didn’t have to ask much after she said that. I knew her family was a sore subject, anytime I brought it up she would shut down. When I asked to meet her family she immediately said no and started making excuses. I didn’t understand why she didn’t want me to meet them, maybe she’s embarrassed about me. I also remembered that not everyone is as close as my family is, so I dropped the subject, I’ll meet them if and when she’s ready.  “Oh, that’s good right?” I asked trying to gage her reaction.  “Umm yeah, I haven’t seen them in years, so it might be a bit weird I guess.” Jo said. “I’m a bit worried I might disappoint them.”  “Why would you every think that, you’re amazing.”  “Some of them are more judgmental than others. Let’s not talk about them, tonight is our night.” She smiles at me holding my hand.  The rest of the dinner went really well, we talked about her favorite art, music, and anything she found beautiful in the world. Jo’s eyes would light up when she talked about the beauty she saw everyday, it was inspiring.  As we were sharing dessert, I noticed her gaze shifted over my shoulder and her eyes went dark. I never saw anything like it.  “Jo, your eyes.”  “JoJo what a pleasant surprise, beautiful as always.” I heard someone calling from over my shoulder. As the footsteps got closer, Jo held my hand a little tighter and soon the voice was right beside us. I look up and see a man maybe in his late 20’s with dark hair and grey eyes wearing an expensive looking suit.  “Luci, what are you doing here?” Jo asked as she stood up from her seat. The guy didn’t answer and at this point they were just having a staring match. I got up to introduce myself hoping to ease the tension. “Hi, my name is Adonis, nice to meet you.” I said holding out my hand.  “Well look at you JoJo, isn’t he handsome, the name suits him.” He said to Jo, then turning his gaze towards me. He shook my hand and responded “the names Lucifer, nice to meet you Adonis.” “What are you doing here Luci?” Jo asked him again. “I’m just here to have dinner with one of my dear siblings” He retorted. “I’m on a date can we have dinner some other time.”  “Oh not you my dear, I’m here with Michael.”  “Wait he’s your brother?” I asked “Well of course I am. JoJo did you forget to tell your little friend you have siblings?”  “Oh I’m sorry, Adonis this is my brother Lucifer, Luci this is Adonis.”  “And I’m their older brother Michael.” came a voice from a man I didn’t even register showing up. “It’s nice to see you again Jophiel” Michael stated.
