Prologue
"Target locked."
I whispered while looking at the telescopic scope of my Barrett M82 sniper rifle.
"Shoot him, his men are coming."
I slowly followed his figure, my finger was on the trigger, ready to fire any moment from now.
He was walking in slow pace which made him easy to target, he was smiling from ear to ear not knowing his life would end any second from now.
I was about to pull my trigger when a kid suddenly popped out of nowhere, he smiled even wider and carried the kid on his arms.
"What the f**k are you doing? Shot him."
I gulped and tried to focus the scope again, I saw how happy they were. He was laughing with the girl on his arms.
I suddenly wonder how it feels to be truely happy.
I discarded the useless thought that came into my mind. I have to kill him, he has to die in my hand.
"Harper!!" I heard them shout on the other line.
I don't normally feel empathy to anyone, but this time, killing him infront of a kid feels so wrong.
I wouldn't want that kid to be another me.
"I can't do this." I whispered and coldly took my rifle away and stood up.
I heard them cursing and shouting for my name. I just sighed and threw my earpiece away.
I walked away from my spot and drove my car away from that place. I gripped my steering wheel tightly while thinking about his wrath which I was about to face for failing a mission.
--
"So you failed?" I bowed my head and gulped. His voice alone was enough to send shivers to my whole body, it was enough to make any brave assasin to tremble from fear.
"Forgive me, sir." Isang malakas na halakhak ang pinakawalan nito.
It was sarcastic and intimidating.
"Let me guess, he was with a kid?" Natatawang tanong nito. I slighly lifted my head and looked at him.
Mabilis kong ibinaba ang aking paningin ng magtama ang aming mga mata.
His eyes were cold, emotionless and deadly. He was playing with a knife on his fingers while staring at me.
"Y-yes." I answered honestly.
He sat comfortably on his swivel chair and his foot rested on his table. He was smirking at me, still playing with the knife on hand. It was as if anytime soon he will threw it right at my chest.
"That failure is worth a hundred billion dollar, my dearest assasin. Why are you so f*****g weak?"
He said those words coldly, he was not shouting which made it even scarier. I did my best to met his dissapointed and furious eyes, it was empty and emotionless.
"He was with a kid. You knew that I don't kill when kids are around."
He stared at me for almost a minute as if he couldn't believe what he just heard, until his laugh echoed throughout the room. He suddenly stood up and walked towards me.
"Who the f**k you think you are? A saint?" He held my chin and forced me to stare at his ice-cold, dark orbs.
I could feel my heart beating fast, not because of fear but because of his mere presence. His scent, his eyes, his face and power was enough to make my heart beat crazily fast.
"You are an assasin. If I told you to kill someone, you have to f*****g listen. How many times do I need to remind you of your f*****g duty, Harper?"
"I'm sorry, sir."
Pabalang nitong pinakawalan ang aking mukha at bumalik sa kanyang upuan.
"Get out."
Hindi na ako sumagot at nilisan ang kanyang silid.
I walked away from that place. I could feel everyone staring at me, they probably heard about my failure again and probably wondering why am I still alive but I don't care.
I may have let go of him for now, but he could never run away from me.
I am Harper Vitale, a Venturi assasin, I was made to kill and no one has escaped my book of death.
