The battered, old pickup truck rumbled along the dirt track, sending a great plume of dust swirling into the night. “Are you okay to drive?” asked Daniel, resting a hand on his partner’s thigh. “Yeah, it’s just been a long night,” replied Karl, rubbing Daniel’s hand. “Did you have a good birthday?” Daniel smiled and looked at Karl’s silhouette against the moonlight. “I did,” he answered. “Best birthday party, thanks to you.” He leaned over and kissed Karl on the side of his face, the bristles pricking his lips. “If you really want to thank me…” Karl took his hand off Daniel’s and unzipped his jeans. “You’re kidding, aren’t you?” Daniel said.
