Chapter One There is something off about this. Third Person’s Point of View Alpha Joshua is twenty years older than Emmi. Elaine should only think about how foul the words were while sitting in that enormous room. She should be offended, ready to throw hands at the man. A typical reaction would be to be appalled by the words. He was twenty years older than her daughter, and Emmi just turned 18 a few weeks ago. It was too much to ask for this, especially since they were werewolves. Everyone has their mates, and blindly asking for a daughter’s hand without a link to bound two werewolves could have the Alpha killed in numerous packs. But this was Joshua’s pack. He made the rules, and his words are absolute. This was not even asking for a hand—the Alpha was telling Elaine that this would happen. “I…” She struggled, her eyes blinking at the thought. Most werewolf parents probably pull out a gun and shoot him from here and there. Humans would call the police, and most mother wolves would have shifted and clawed the face out of this man, even if he was an Alpha. A child is significant to a wolf, as they are the very foundation of their mother’s love. That is why to ask a mother if they could marry her child that was meant to be theirs in the first place was nothing but a murder waiting to happen. Elaine Parker, however, was a different breed of a mother. It was not a surprise. The woman openly uses her daughter’s hard-earned money to gamble, even racking up debts that put her in the trouble that she was in. Even the clothes or items that she would have were more expensive than the person making them, and she never had enough time to care if her daughter was happy or contented with her life. All she cared about was money. That is why, instead of seeing this man as a pedophile, she saw the Alpha as a man who holds a lot of power. If her daughter had married this man, she would be allowed to spend more money than she would have. Not only would her daughter have a stable life, but Elaine would also be dragged along with it. That was how her mind was working. Her daughter would be Luna, and they would be living in a large house, holding the amount of a sum of money as her allowance from time to time. Emmi would be excused into having some late hours, and she could get some cash with the Alpha. They would be living in luxury! She would be drowned into the comfort of what it has to have everything in the raise of her hand. It was the life that she always dreamt that she would have. If her husband were here, she would have slapped this very moment to his face. All of the women who had to see her as a homewrecker or someone who was not enough would be dripping in envy when her daughter has the spot! However, before she rejoices, she needed to know if this was some test. She has to be sure before she sells her own daughter. “I am sorry, Alpha.” She fakes a frown, not wanting to show any lace of emotion towards the man, as she was not aware of what was happening. Being true to what she shows outside, the woman looked like a mother who cared for her child. Something that she was not. “Whatever do you mean about this? You have a Luna of your own, someone who will be mated to you. Are you my daughter’s mate?” The man looked disgusted at the words. To remember the woman who was mated to him felt like a curse, something he did not want to talk about. The one who is fated to him is a human, someone who clearly could not be able to handle the power that he had. For him, a Luna needed to be strong and was loved by all. He had always looked down on the Alpha, who chose a human as their Luna. Some werewolves do not acknowledge the concept of mates. Alpha Joshua believed in power, nothing else. The idea his pups will have less potential because he was mated to a human was a disgrace that he could never let happen. All his people were strong; they were not weak. Emmi is someone who has been loved in the whole pack because of her kindness. She is someone who has everyone’s adoration, for she knows what she was doing, even offering help to those who needed it and hardly asked for anything back. Her dedication to her job has people admire her from a distance, enough that little kids wanted to be her. And the most important one of them all: is the fact that she is beautiful. Basically, this was all a plot for him to have a valid point into sexualizing a young girl twenty years younger than him. If he had married that young doctor, the thoughts inside his head that had been going since he had seen her would be put into action, and before long, that doctor would be strapped in his bed and would be ravished by him. It was his lewd desires that fueled all of these. To be asked if he was her mate was impossible. Elaine knew that he couldn’t have possibly been mated to her daughter. As much as the world of the werewolf was open with an age gap, twenty years is a bit too much for everyone. A typical wolf who had met its mates at the age of 18 would bear a child in that year or another. Since procreating is a desire from all werewolves, all would-be parents aged nineteen to twenty. Alpha Joshua could pass off as Elaine's father. In fact, he was a year older than her real father. He could have passed off as the father rather than being the husband. It could have a pass if they were vampires, seeing that age is but a fleeting idea to those creatures. However, Emmi is not stupid. With her reaching the age at which she could identify her mate... it simply could not happen. He could have passed off as the father rather than being the husband. It could have a pass if they were vampires, seeing that age is but a fleeting idea to those creatures. However, Emmi is not stupid. With her reaching the age at which she could identify her mate... it simply could not happen. “No, I am not your daughter’s mate and you know that,” Joshua answered. She jumped, mumbling a soft apology as she continued. “But… you wanted to marry her?” He agreed, letting her play the strings for this round. “She will be my mate, Elaine. My words did not need an answer; it was an announcement to you as you are her mother. Emmi Parker will be my wife and you needed to make that happen or else.” She shuddered by his words, knowing the very meaning of his words. Elaine only cowered to the seat as she could feel the anger and threat in the link. From his reaction alone and by the fact that the Beta had been the one who had retrieved her, she was now aware that the man was serious with his words, meaning that the Alpha had rejected his mate because of her daughter. Why does it have to be her daughter? Elaine does wonder why her child was getting every attention that she does not even need. If ever, she would have been standing in the spot of the Luna but her child had taken that away from her too. While she does not adore the man—she always sees herself as someone who had always been someone that should be standing right next to the Alpha. “Am I understood about this manner, Elaine?” He questioned, eyes daggered to the woman. She quickly bowed her head into submission. “Of course, Alpha.” “Very good.” He replied, waving her off to leave his office. Before she could, he called her again. The woman jumped and looked back, awaiting a command. “She will be marrying me in five days, during the full moon. Have your daughter prepared and ready for me, for she will also be marked on that day.” Marked. An Alpha would mark her daughter! She would be a Luna. That good for nothing daughter! She is always stealing what is hers! Elaine should have been the Luna. Not her. She was the reason why her husband had left, and now a powerful man wanted her. Does she flirt around rather than work as she should have? A part of her could not believe that the line of men who adored her daughter was serious. She was sure that all of them had only fallen for her due to her looks or dedication to the job. Emmi mainly resembled her father’s features. While she does not resemble a man, she could hardly resemble her mother. Even her attitude mirrored her father. The only thing she got from her mother was her wolf. She was a hybrid, and her father is a human who had fallen out of love with his mate because she was a selfish woman who only wanted money. He quickly realized that and broke things off. Then again, she was never aware of this and what had happened for her to lose her connection with her father too. Elaine had long forgotten her plan to have a play with her human friends as she walked inside their house. To how she would open the talk to her daughter about her marrying the Alpha was something she still does not know how she would do. Despite her being a mother who does not fit the whole, she knew one thing about her daughter. She knew that her eighteen years old daughter would agree to the union and would run away if she had opened this. It was not hard to see that she was clearly different from her own mother. Walking back into the room, she found her daughter on the couch, sleeping soundly as her face was coated with exhaustion. Since she was the only top student and the only functioning doctor in the packhouse, Emmi could barely have enough time to rest. While Joshua thinks that he was giving her more opportunities by not providing more doctors, he was effectively killing her through exhaustion. It was sad for Emmi to know that all her hard work was going into gambling and all the expensive taste of her mother. As soon as Elaine had reached her daughter, Emmi jolted, looking around and frowning as she saw her mother. “Mother, you’re back,” Emmi muttered as she yawned, sitting on the couch as she noticed that her mother seemed to be different from what she had left it. “Is everything okay? I thought you would be playing.” Elaine was hesitant, unsure of her words to say. “Emmi, what can you say about the Alpha?” She was not comfortable about the topic, knowing that this was all too sudden. Emmi had fixed his wound from before, and it was not pleasing. The Alpha was creepy. He would let her fix an injury that was not severe and waste so much of her time. She would see him smile from time to time like he was enjoying everything. Who the f**k does that? He was weird, but she could not say that out loud. She did not want to get killed. “I do not know. It’s not my level of expertise.” She replied. “Emmi.” She scowled. “Mother, do not.” Emmi fired back. “I do not need to talk about this as I am already tired, and none of this can save me time. The man is the Alpha. That is all I can say about him. I do not have thoughts about him.” Elaine sighed, knowing that this was a bad. She had not even opened the idea, and Emmi was already flinching back. “Just be sure to mend his wounds tomorrow.” “That is my job.” She all but says.
