Donovan

“Alpha Saunders, they’re here” Donovan stopped typing on his computer after one of his omegas appeared at his office with the announcement. Taking a deep breath he nodded her way as a signal for her to let his guests in. Every couple of months he had a meeting with the heads of each race within the district to address any topic related to their alliance. These meetings were always a difficult conversation, but as he was the district executive, it was his job to ensure the peace between all the groups. “Lilian, Dimitri, Trenton. Welcome. Please take a seat.” “Elias is late again. What a surprise!” Trenton, leader of the Hunters, said with a chuckle.  “Be careful with what you say out loud, Trenton, someone might even think you don’t like me” said Elias walking quietly behind him. Donovan smelled him even before he entered the room. His internal wolf started agitating in his mind. Something was off about his smell, a sweet smell of freesias and petrichor hit his nostrils mixed with the pungent smell of his vampire essence. Could it be?  He pushed these thoughts aside before the rest of the leaders noticed his internal conflict. “Elias. Good thing you could join us. Let me offer you something to drink” he mindlinked Katy that was waiting on the other side of the door. “Yes, Alpha Saunders?” Katy, the omega that let them in, entered the room again.  “Katy, please make sure our guests are well served in whatever they prefer to drink.” she nodded gracefully and took everyone’s order before leaving.  “You address your servants with such informality, Donovan, I just can’t get it.” “They are not my servants, Elias. They are my employees and I treat them with the respect they deserve.” He growled reminding him who is in charge here. He simply scoffed and got comfortable in his chair.  He knew that Elias had enslaved humans in his domains and that was always a matter of conflict whenever discussed in these meetings.  “Returning to the matter in hand, we have a main topic to discuss. The Leader’s Summit will be next week. I have made the arrangements and they will all be staying at the Royal Hill, the conferences will take place there as well. So we have that settled. Lilian, what about your coven?”  “Everything set, Elias. We’ll cover all technological necessities. All the list of items you requested will be sent to your hotel tomorrow, just make sure to give me the name of the person that will be receiving them.” “That would be our concierge, I’ll tell Mary Elizabeth to be prepared for your arrival. She already knows where everything will be installed… Trenton?” “I have my staff prepping full speed for the amenities. We were thinking of adding a deer hunting contest between the clans on the second day. That will bring up the spirits and will do good to depopulate our forest.”  “I like the idea. Good thinking.” Lilian chuckled lightly whispering softly ‘men’.  “Well, excuse us, Lilian. I highly doubt that picking flowers to make potions will be as fun to the rest of the clans as it is for you, witches. Plus, some of my best hunters are actually women, just so you know.” Trenton mentioned, crossing his arms in a triumphant way as he just has won the argument of the century. Lilian just rolled her eyes. Donovan cleared his throat to deviate the attention before it got tense. “What about you, Elias? Everything ready for the inauguration ball?”  “My dear Donovan, parties and galas are my specialty, you don’t need to worry. It will take place in my castle.” “I thought we agreed that everything will be in common grounds.” Trenton replied angrily. “Common grounds? We’re doing the whole event at Donovan’s hotel!” Elias exclaimed impatiently. “Yeah, but it's downtown! Common grounds!” “Oh please! We’re not having a party there! There’s no class nor elegance in those places. Besides, all the leaders from the Western lands will come! It’s not like we’re planning to do something other than a big party!” “If I might comment” Dimitri, lord of the demons, spoke for the first time since he arrived. “I see no harm in changing the location, Elias is great at throwing mythical parties.”  “Exactly! Thanks, Dimitri! Besides, I wouldn’t want my servitude to have any nasty thoughts...” “Well, If you treated your staff better they wouldn’t feel so eager to escape.” Pointed Lilian with a glare. “We’re not getting to this topic, again. I’m covered by the international treaties so you better get over it.” “Well, I think this is a two against two situation, Donovan, you have the final word here.” Trenton looked at Donovan knowing that he would never allow a gathering with such important guests in such an uncertain territory.  But that smell… “Elias, have you left your castle lately? Visited other Vampire Covens? Or have received any visits?” “What? Why do you ask?”  “To know if you are onto something…” he was lying, partially lying, he wanted to know something else. “Not that it’s any of your business what I do besides these meetings, but no, I’ve been in my castle these past week. I’ve been pretty busy with some personal matters if you know what I mean.” Lilian rolled her eyes once again, "Disgusting”.Donovan had to agree with Lilian’s comment on this one but he just stared right at Elias without uttering a word. He knew Elias wasn’t lying because he could smell when anyone was being dishonest. So that meant that the delicious smell he was sensing was from someone within the castle.  “I’ll let you throw the party at your castle, Elias. Under the condition that it is a party suitable for all of our guests. Nothing depraved as surely Dimitri and you are pretty used to.” he knew that comment, even though rude, wasn’t actually an offense for any of them. They just looked at each other mischievously, probably remembering the intense parties they used to throw some centuries ago. “But…” Lilian started to argue but Donovan just held his hand up signalizing the end of the conversation while Elias looked at him suspiciously. “Enough time dedicated to this topic, we have other matters to address…” He didn’t know if his theory was right; but if it was, he needed to go to Elias castle to find out.
