CHAPTER ONE (Sadashiv`s Death.)

The woman is running in heavy rain and going inside the fort and just pray Hatar`s temple which is inside the fort itself. There she talks with her Father-in-law while giving massage due to the back pain.

The lady says “Please, hurry up it's about to get dark it'll take the time it takes I am terrified of not feeding that old hag on time what if she wakes up?”

Father-in-law “Don't say such things at this dark hour She won't wake up If you want to leave in time, the

come early”. Lady speaks “You'd promised me that gold coin, after this new moon?” The Father-in-law answers “The coin is not a joke! one has to earn it”.

Now the two kids Sadashiv and Vinayak are running towards there house in heavy rain, but the mom is not at home Sadashiv ask    elder brother “dada where the mom went?” Vinayak answers “where else, must be at Sarkar`s mansion”. Sadashiv ask “who will feed the old woman?” Vinayak answers “Mother will, once she returns” Sadashiv ask “What if she's late?” Vinayak “Shut up!”

Vinayak tries to open the lock of the door but he does not have the key to open so he breaks the lock with the stone and enters the house. After entering the house there is a big passage. In hunger, the old lady should not run out of the house so the women lock the 2nd door as Vinayak knows where mom keeps the key she kept in a hole where usually the oil lamp (lalten) is kept for the light.

The elder son Vinayak cook’s food for the old women in a dark kitchen while cooking the Sadashiv ask “when does she eats, she wakes?” Vinayak answers “She eats while she's asleep You put it in her mouth, bit by bit, she swallows”. Sadashiv ask “Does she ever wake up?” Vinayak answers “NO”. Sadashiv ask “Have you ever fed her before?” Vinayak answers “NO”. Vinayak prepares and serve in plate an ask the younger brother to go to the old women`s room and keep bit by bit in the old lady`s mouth, Sadashiv is scared and he doesn`t want to go but Sadashiv ask “What's this?” the elder answers “I cooked, so you go feed her Go on. Else she'll wake up Go, don't be afraid I say, go on!” mother comes running and shouting “Sadashiv. Sadashiv. Sadashiv. Sadashiv.” She gives a smooth hit to the younger son and Harsh hits to the elder son. Mother cooks again with the Chants and feeds old lady but she does not put spices as they don’t want to give taste to her.

After feeding her bit by bit the mother cuts the feet nails with the huge nail cutter after that, as she is about to leave the room the old lady wakes up. When she leaves the room. The old lady says “please sit with me and feed me more I beg of you please”. The lady says “Hey old lady sleep or else Hastar will come and take” but before she speaks, she is very afraid. Then old lady sleeps on the sport not even on the bed the take her in her and lay straight in the bed. Now through a bullock cart driver gives the news that Sarkar (father) is dead so lady goes to near the river to complete his death ceremony then she retains to the house the elder son is helping and saying “Did he give you the gold coin?” the mother says “It didn’t come up” the Vinayak says “That bastard will never bring it up” the mother says while hitting “You dare to swear at your father” Vinayak says “Tell him ... We won't look after his old hag unless he gives us the coin No one else in the village would dare to go close to her”. The mother says “The gold coin is not a joke One has to earn it Being his mistress for 12 years hasn't earned it?” the lady is hitting her and scolding the son try to get escape and says “Mother Let me go I don't want it I don't want the treasure Let me go”

In fun the Vinayak says “Sleep, else Hastar will come for you Mother.” Mother is serious and says “Sarkar is dead.” Vinayak answers “I know” Mother “After dinner, we'll start packing We are leaving Tumbbad There is nothing left for us here.” Elder and younger sons together “Why?” mom answers “There's no one else and starve to death in that ruin? It isn't worth a penny for the village, we are as good as outcastes and the mansion's hidden treasure.” The elder son asks “Isn't that ours now?”  The mother answers” Sarkar searched all his life but found nothing Squandered all his ancestral wealth as well”. The Vinayak asks “What about the old woman? Mother answers “Why should we care now? Let her rot Shall” Vinayak gives an idea “we wake her up? She's Sarkar's great grandmother I'm sure she knows something the hidden treasure” Mother with a hard push “Go!... Go ahead… Wake her up and ask… We leave at dawn, tomorrow at we will get to Satara and head to 'Pune'

The Vinayak is going outside in the big passage and Sadashiv is sitting on the tree as it is the best sport to climb and sit on the tree and Vinayak is playing with the ball and talking to each other. Sadashiv says “Even mentioning the treasure brings ill fortune,” Vinayak asks “So, I didn't”.  Sadashiv ask “What is 'Pune'?” Vinayak answers with an exciting way “It's a very big city Where carts move on their own, without horses or bulls”. Sadashiv says “I don't believe anything you say, nowadays”. Vinayak “fine”. Sadashiv laughs aloud and he lost his balance and fall down to the opposite side other the tree his head c***k on the stone Vinayak runs a shouts Sadashiv he calls mom come out the. The mother immediately calls Bullock car driver and ask him “kaka take us to the doctor” and says to Sadashiv “Sadashiv, don't sleep”. Vinayak is running towards the cart and mother says “I'll be back home by morning” Vinayak ask “What about the old woman's?” mother answers “You'll have to feed her tonight.” Vinayak ask “What if she wakes up?” Mother answers “say … Sleep, 'Hastar'   will come for you.  Who is 'Hastar'? now, mother to driver “Hurry up. Let's go!” and to Vinayak “go… go…. go….” now to Sadashiv “Sadashiv, I am here. Everything will be alright, son”. Driver asks “Sister? Do you still want to go to the doctor? Or should I take us to the graveyard? Mother answers “Take me to the mansion”
