Chapter 2 - Moving In

Maria’s POV: The day arrived soon when I was dropped off to the boarding school. It was a one-hour long drive that drove me crazy, I despised sitting in the car and traveling for so long. My mother hugged me and I just smiled at Mark. Just because he got me admitted to a prestigious boarding school doesn’t mean he suddenly becomes my father. “Take care of yourself!” My mother yelled as the car moved backward and out of the gates. She waved me bye one last time and then the gates closed. The gates were shining golden, they were quite large, the security here was strict as well. The guards were males outside but inside the school walls, they were only females. My suitcases were already in my room, B-18, now all I had to do was find the room and check in basically. I wandered around the area a bit and noticed every single detail. The school was quite big, they were three buildings or blocks, there wasn’t anyone roaming outside. It was the fourth day, I got a bit delayed due to my cold, I wasn’t able to walk properly and then seasonal sickness came along. Stress. As the buildings ended, the garden started, there was a huge garden on all four sides of the school. Once the garden finished, the tall gates started and that’s all. I walked inside one of the buildings while having no idea where I’m supposed to go. Suddenly, out of blue, an old woman approached me. “Hello, welcome here, you must be?” She asked. “I’m Maria Cleo, here is my paper that I received in the mail,” I replied while giving her my paper. She nodded her head and turned around. “Follow me,” We walked around the area for a bit. I realized this building didn’t have any classrooms or dorms, they were just offices and people running here and there. We walked to the end and entered an office where another woman was sitting and sipping on her coffee. “This is the new student that enrolled for Year 12,” the old woman with me said. “Oh, yes! Let me fetch the files for you, although you’re four days late, any specific reason?” The woman on the desk asked. She dismissed the old lady and offered me to sit down. She got up and went through her big shelves. Pulling out a dozen papers. “Yes, I got seasonal sickness so I wasn’t able to come on the first day itself,” I replied. “Oh, that’s sad. How are you feeling now? We do have our own clinics so you could’ve been treated here without missing your classes as this is your final year. Attendance is very important!” She exclaimed. She sat down back and placed the papers infront of me. “Yes, I am quite better now. Yes, I understand.” I replied obediently. I wasn’t a shy person at all, I was loud and spoken but I only speak when it’s needed but unnecessarily. “Okay, that’s good! Anyways, here are the files. This file contains your entire year schedule, classes, teachers names and where they’ll be sitting. And over here is the map of the school. You can go to the next block and find your dorm, ask one of the reception ladies there, they’ll help you.” She explained while moving the files towards me. “Could you explain the map? I have no idea how this works.” I questioned. She giggled and nodded her head. “There are three blocks as you can see, the first block to my left is where the dorms are, the middle block where you are right now is where the classes are going to be, the first floor of this is filled with offices so you’ll have to go up. The third block is for teachers and staff.” She explained while pointing her trimmed nails on the map. “Oh, okay! So all the classes will be here?” I asked. “Yes, they are 8 floors, the first three are for kindergarten to 9 and the next three are for 10-12. The last one is where is the headmaster can be found although it’s restricted entry without a written letter from any one of the teacher and this is the first floor where you can come for any problem or any doubt.” She further continued to explain and I just kept nodding my head. “Okay, thank you, anything else I need to know?” I asked. “Yes, there are a few things. We don’t enroll many Year 12 students because that’s the final year but we have been surprised with your grades from your previous school, it’s great that you keep everything up and close to 100%. We do hope you continue with that.” She added. I blushed and thanked her. This was the first time I was being praised for my grades. In my previous school, people just brushed my shiny grades off their feet. “We do have very strict discipline and behavior rules which you’ll find in the file. Read it over carefully, punishments can be severe if any of them are broken. Also, as you must know, family members or friends not studying in this school aren’t allowed inside the premises. In case of emergency, you can only leave with written permission from the head. Calls, video calls and messaging are all allowed. Bedtime for everyone is 10 PM, anyone awake or roaming around after that will be punished.” The woman paused for a second and pulled out a paper with more things on it and she began to start reading it for me. “Your classes mainly began from 9 AM, breakfast is served at 8 AM which you can eat or take from the cafeteria, smoking, hookah, drugs, and alcohol is strictly forbidden, having parties, sleepovers and loud music inside dorms is forbidden, Lunch is at 1 PM and dinner is at 7 PM. All snacks are allowed, you have the freedom to get anything from the cafeteria at any time. And cleanliness is important. Obey all the rules and you’ll be awarded. Disrespect anything in this school and you’ll be severely punished.” She ended it with a smile. “There are more things so you can go through them,” she said as she handed me the paper. Something ticked me off. Punishments. Why were they mentioned so many times? Like they were some sort of harsh things that girls should avoid. “Thank you, is that all?” I asked. “Yes,” She replied. I collected all the paper and as I began to leave the room, the woman called my name and stopped me. “Maria?” “Yes, mam?” “Good Luck! I hope you do good and just a little advice, don’t get in any kind of mess or any cult that some girls make. You are a bright student, if you see something wrong, inform it to me immediately.” She said. I nodded my head and left the room. The way she spoke threw me off. This was a strict school. I walked out of the building and went into the building where my dorm would be. Another lady showed me my room and I just threw myself inside. Mark got me a room without a roommate because my mother told him that girls would infest into my head and make me fail. The room here was quite large and Victorian style. I assumed all of them were the same. I didn’t care about unpacking or going to any of the classes. I just went straight to sleep. It was anyways 3 PM.
