Why Can't We Be Friends?

620 Words
My first couple of classes were great. I made two new friends whose names were Meredith and Gale. Gale was a boy with black hair and scary blue eyes. I remember when I first saw him in geography and I thought his eyes were the most unique. They were blue, but when you looked closer- they looked like a swirling mixture of colors. His skin was the palest out of everyone else. It was cool I guess. Meredith, however, was totally different. She reminded me of Merida from Brave because of her Scottish accent and interest in bow and arrows. She was very pretty, but I'd have to say that her skin was discolored. It was like no other that I've seen yet at the high school. She looked like she was glowing and I don't mean that metaphorically. Her eyes were a violet color and even through the dim classroom lighting, you could see them glowing. None of that compares to her hair which was her best feature. She has a lot of hair and really tight curls. Her hair is a blue-ish-purple color that matches her eyes. It's really pretty and unique. "Jessica!" I turned around to see the girl from this morning. She was waving her hands and running towards me so that we could make our way to lunch. We walked into the lunchroom with all eyes on me. I got some scolds and glares that made me feel very uncomfortable. People were also whispering as if I couldn't hear them. "She's cute for a human" one guy whistled towards his friend. I furrowed my brows. '.....for a human?' "I don't like her, she looks stuck up" another girl gagged. "She's so rare. How do you think she tastes?" My eyes widened. 'What?' Madison lead me to a lunch table where Meredith and Gale sat. "Hey guys" I nervously said setting down my lunch tray. They looked to me and smiled. "Hey Jesse, so what do you think of Westbrook?" Gale spoke up munching on a French fry. "Well I've only made two friends so far so that should tell you something" I sighed. Meredith laughed towards me, "Oh don't be so hard on yourself. It's only your first day. Trust me, you'll make some new friends" I giggled and looked down, "I guess" We all began to eat and laugh as Gale told us the story of his little brother getting stuck in the washing machine when they were 5. It turns out that he has a twin brother who doesn't go to the school due to the fact that he's more advanced than the other kids. As I was listening, I couldn't help but notice Vince sitting at his table alone. "What's with him?" I said pointing in his direction. Meredith scoffed, "He's f*******n to sit with or socialize with the social population of this town. Ugh.. I'm disgusted that I even have to share a class with that menace" I slowly peeled my eyes away from her, "Why?" She glared towards the lonely figure, "Because he broke a law- scratch that, he broke THE law" I laughed a little, "What kind of law?" She looked down to her plate, "He broke the va-" She stopped mid-sentence without saying another word, "What?" Everyone at the table suddenly went silent. I did nothing but look down. Awkward... "So how'd you get him out?" Madison questioned Gale obviously changing the subject. Gale stared confused, "huh?" Madison looked from me to him, "How'd you get your brother out of the washing machine?" Gale sighed, "oh well-" My mind went blank and the rest of my lunch period was spent pretending to care about what they were saying.
