Author's pov A girl is walking alone in the street at night. She is a little scared as she has never been out of her home if you call it one let alone at night wandering on the streets. She has clutched her bag tightly near her chest. She has few belongings with her and that reside inside her bag. The road is vacant as it's a night of winter.. Everyone is sleeping in their house comfortably. The girl is rubbing her hand occasionally to make them warm. As her thin shawl isn't doing any work to warm her body. A little sound of teeth clattering together can be heard. She was tired of walking for long so she decided to stop somewhere.. And to her luck she found a tea shop open where one police constable is drinking tea. And two people are talking and laughing. She slowly went towards the shop and bought a cup of tea and 1 packet biscuit. She sipped on her tea and it felt awfully good on a cold winter night. The two people who were gossiping now had their eyes on the girl in front of them but not in a bad way. They are concerned about her safety. "ai mei tumi ato rate aka keno? (Hey girl, why are alone in the night so late?)" One of them asked The girl got startled a little but then decided to reply. "ami aka achi amar sathe jaoar moto keu nei, ( I am alone ,nobody is there to go with me)" Her reply made the man shut "ta ato rate ekhane keno? Kothao jacho? (So why are you alone so lately? Where are you going?)" other man asked "ha ami amar bari jachi, (I am going to my home)" The girl replied She wasn't getting good vibes from this situation life has taught her many things in her short span of life. She hurriedly finished her tea and ate half biscuits. She paid the shop owner and started walking again.. She was finding the bus stop to catch a bus for Digha where her parents stay. "darao,(Stop.)" a manly voice came She turned around and found the police constable. "ha bolun, (say)" The girl replied "tumi ki bus stop khujcho? (Are you searching for a bus stop?)" the constable asked "ha, apni bolte parben ar koto dur? (Yes, can you tell me the distance?)" the girl asked Police means protection that she knows very well so she was feeling safe with the man. "durer bus stop anek ta dur, tumi kothay jabe boloto? (Busstop is far away, where will you go?)" He asked her "Digha," the girl replied "oh seto anek dur, Acha tumi amar sathe cholo ami tomake bus stand e chere dichi, (Oh it's far away from here, ok you come with me ,I will drop you in the bus stop.)" the man said and the girl nodded hesitantly "tomar name ki? (What's your name?)" he asked "Tulika," Tulika replied He asked her to sit on his bike and she obliged. Her heart is screaming at her that something is wrong but this girl decides to believe what she was taught too. They drove a lot and the man stopped in front of an abandoned building. Fear gripped her heart but she stayed calm Tulika's pov "why are we here?" I asked him "to enjoy," he replied creepily and I know I'm in deep s**t Why me? Why did I believe him? How can I forget what my belief cost me. I had to run from here.. With this I tried to hop down and run but that constable grabbed my hands "where are you going beautiful? Don't behave like you are a naive innocent virgin. I know very well that you are from Sonagachi and was under Trina, don't worry I will pay you your price after I'm done," That man said and my heart sank more He knows what I'm, who I'm. My p********e tag hasn't left me yet. " sir I'm not a p********e anymore please leave me I need to go, "I pleaded because I can't do anything except this I'm weak physically and mentally. " That I know Trina has released you but that doesn't matter. I had my eyes on you for a long time but that rich fucker got you. And now you're free. You can go but after satisfying me," that man said No! No I can't let him use me again I had it enough with Him (mainak) not anymore. " will you pay me 10 thousand? "I asked him to make him believe I won't run away " fifteen thousand, but I want you, "He says eyeing my body with lust He is a man in his mid forties and yet he is lusting over me, I am maybe his children's age but that didn't affect him. " OK but let my hand go. It's hurting me, "I said and he left my hand " now as you are ready to warm my bed I don't have to force you. "that man said and I was searching for something to hit him and escape from his clutches and my eyes caught a big rock " where should we go? "I asked him so he won't find me suspicious " inside, "he said and I know it's do or die situation I sprinted towards the rock and took it and before he could understand what happened I threw it on him and it hit him hard. I took my bag from the ground and ran to the opposite side from where we came. I can hear him cursing me but I can't give it a thought now. I ran until I saw the bus stop finally it was in the left turn.. I can't believe that I hurt someone but it needed to be done otherwise he would have r***d me. But does it matter? Isn't like I'm some virgin. It's already taken from me with force or my will doesn't matter. I was a p********e and to the people who have known me there I will always be a p********e. They said the police always save you from danger. They are here to protect you but here a policeman was behind me. I should have never believed him in the first place.. I don't know what to do with my fate. I'm a failure. I am a selfish mother who gives up on her daughter as well for her freedom but it was her good as well isn't it? She will live a peaceful and respected life. She won't be a p********e or called a p********e's daughter. I shook my head and went there to book a ticket for the Digha bus of Digha. My home town where my 10 years of life was spent. The bus will leave after 30 minutes so I took a window seat I sighed in relief as there were other girls as well. All with their family or husband. Family the word is enough for me to cry my heart out. My family betrayed me and sold me like I'm some kind of show piece. They didn't think once before selling me off there. I don't hate them because I know the reason but didn't I deserve the truth at least? Husband? Who will marry a girl like me? After knowing what happened no man will marry Me but will offer me to sleep with them in exchange of money after seeing my beauty. They say truly that beauty is a curse sometimes and in my case it is the biggest curse of my life. I left Sonagachi behind but did Sonagachi leave me?
