Chosen by the Goddess

Chapter 2

    I don’t get very far before he catches up with me. Almost effortlessly, he reaches out to get a hold, before spinning me around to face him. I don’t know why, but I am suddenly not afraid anymore, rather annoyed and slightly mad. How dare he? Me running off should have been enough for him to figure out that I want to get away!

    “What?” I almost yell at him. He is just standing in front of me, staring, still holding on to my arm. Then, without any warning, and too fast for me to evade, he bends down and crashes his lips into mine. I just stand still, perplexed, once I overcome that moment of confusion, I pull away. 

    “Dude! At least buy me dinner first!” I exclaim. He stares at me, bewildered. I stare right back at him, giving my best to look angry and intimidating, waiting for him to say something. I am not a very intimidating person, and considering the situation he just found me in, he probably doesn’t understand me as such. 

    “Do- do you want to get dinner?” What?! I can’t believe this guy, I am so confused. What is happening?

    “NO, obviously not, why would I want that?”

    “You literally just said you want to go get dinner… I mean, its 4 in the morning, a little early for my understanding, but Im not here to judge” 

    “That was a figure of speech. I don’t actually want to go out with a stranger, who, for all I know, could be who knows what”

    “I am your mate so, I think you should give me at least the benefit of a doubt, after all, we are going to see a lot more of each other.” He looks very sure of himself now, but he completely lost me, I have no idea what he is talking about. 

    “I am nothing to you.” I am losing my patience now, this man is really testing me.

He leans back, his eyes narrowing.

    “Are you rejecting me?” 

    “What the f**k are you even talking about? In all of hell, I have no clue what you want from me!” I want to yell, but I keep my voice down. His eyes widen at my words, he is now starring down at me. Then, he takes a step back and brings some space between us. He looks down on my, and then back up, to meet my eyes. Now, he looks like the one who doesn’t understand what is happening. 

    “Are you… just a human?” Wow. That is a weird question to ask someone. 

    “No, I’m a f*****g broccoli, what does it look like to you, you walnut?” I scoff at him. I can see in his eyes that my words hurt him but I am starting to get really tired and I have just about had it with this guy.  He is still staring at me. I sigh. 

    “Look, I am forever grateful for you help tonight, I will never be able to repay you and consider myself in you debt for the rest of eternity…” Okay, maybe Im layering it on a little thick there “…but I really need to get home, I am tired, I need a shower, and I really need to not be awake for a while. So, again, thank you very much, and good night.” With that, I turn around and walk away. 

    I didn’t get up the next morning. I rolled around in bed, knowing that once I decide to be awake, the world would be real again and all of last nights madness would creep back up into my conscious mind. So I keep dozing off, being chased by bizarre dreams. 

    Until I have enough and just try to convince myself to leave the bed, when I hear it knocking on my door. Before I can answer my roommate Stephanie barges in and slams the door shut behind her. 

    “Guuurl, you need to get up!” She has an accusing look on her face. When I don’t move she continues. “Girl, I am serious, the mayor of Handsome town has been sitting in our living room forever and I have no Idea what to do with him. It’s getting really awkward and kind of uncomfortable!”

    “Who? What? I don’t know, whatever, just kick him out then.” I grumble before turning around, hoping she would leave. 

    “No way, he is asking for young he says he is not going to leave until he has had a chance to talk to you!”

    “Call the cops then, let them kick him out” She doesn’t answer. Just when I think I’ve managed to get rid of her, I feel her crashing into me. She throws herself on the bed and was now laying on top of me. She is not very heavy but it is still not a comfortable position. 

    “You come on now, or I’ll smush you!” That was her tactic, whenever she wants to get me to do something. Unfortunately for me, it works every time. I let out an annoyed groan, she rolls herself off me and I slowly get up. Stephanie walks out of my room and I follow. 

    “Wait what, who did you say is there?” I ask her, but it is too late. I walk into the living room and there he is. Sitting on the sofa, with a cup of coffee in his hand, the stranger from last night. The one who saved me, not the one who tried to r**e me. 

    He flashes a bright grin at me and, answering my question from before says: “I hear, the mayor of Handsome town, although it's not an official title, I appreciate it, you can call me Rhys though.” I stare at Stephanie, her face turns red, realizing that he had heard everything she said to me. She turns around and disappears into her room. 

    I plop down on the chair opposing the sofa. The man in front of me takes a long look at me. Too long, I look down on myself. I am wearing panties and a tank top, casual sleep attire, I think. Then I notice my arms, I have bruises on both of them. Pulling up my shirt a little to inspect my hips, they look the same. “s**t…” I whisper. 

    “You alright?” Rhys asks, he sound concerned.

    “I’ll survive, what do you want? And how did you find me?” Do I have a stalker I didn’t know of? Is that the reason why he found me last night?

    “I took a lucky guess. I wanted to let  you know that we are having dinner tonight.“

    “I am not going to dinner with you.” Is he crazy? Why would I?

    “Remember last night, when you said you would always be in my debt and never be able to repay me? Well, this is how I am choosing to be repaid. I’ll pick you up at 7, which by the way is…in 4 hours” he says, after glancing at his watch. With that, he gets up, places the mug on the coffee table and walks straight out the door, while yelling “Bye Stephanie”.
