2400 Sixth St NW, Washington, DC 20059 Howard University. The silver on a 2017 Lexus, reflected off another car as Tiana Marie King pulled into the empty parking space. Her eyes scanned the many people associating with others as well as they dragged their bags. Tiana felt herself get anxiety by just the amount. She was not really a people's person. She was antisocial because she had a low lack of trust and because she wants to keep to her own. That was just Tiana. Blowing out a breath, Tiana turned the car off and took the keys out before grabbing her purse and papers. Her eyes went to the strangers again. "You got this, Tiana." She whispered to herself before getting out of her car and closing the door. Her legs moved at a nice pace as she made her way to the entrance. It will go nice. Her classes start tomorrow and her tour on campus was today. All she wanted to know was who she was sharing a dorm with. Whoever they are, she hoped they were not messy. She could not share a room with someone who lives in a mess. No, Tiana was not OCD. She just liked things neat. Finally making it to the office she was lead to where the other freshmen were. All seated oh the red couch cushions and some of the big black bing bags. Taking in all the red and black colors of the room followed by some black and white pictures hanging on the wall near the double doors. She found an empty seat of a booth and she made her way to it. Just as she took a seat, her phone flashed multiple times as her phone went off. Pulling her phone out her pocket, she saw The pastor's wife aka her mother's name on the screen. This was the fifth time of today and Tiana just wished she calmed down. A worried parent she is grateful for but when they try to overdue the calls then that's when it becomes a problem. She sighed and pressed the green icon before holding the phone to her ear. "Hi, mom," Tiana spoke lowly. "Oh, my baby. I know this is my fifth time calling you but I just want to make sure you're safe. Your father—knows that your safe and I love you." Smiling, hearing her father's voice interrupted her mom. "I love you too, Dad." Tiana replied. "Any church homes, Tiana? Even though you're far from home, I want you to still remain in the house of God." She closed her eyes. "I am, mom." "Alright because after you graduate, you are next in line as a First Lady." Here we go. Becoming First Lady was once a dream to Tiana but as time went on, things change. The church was amazing. She loved the church, through the grace of God she got into Howard. Becoming First Lady would be a big step meaning, in her mother's eyes that there has to be a future pastor. Tiana had no interest in men since her first and last relationship. Ending the relationship was worse. Donavan 'Don' Power. She cringed when her mother brings him up, claiming he's a changed man by god. He's the right choice. He's this and that and it was just too much. Donovan cheated on her because he was impatient with her. Tiana was innocent and she wanted to hold on to that. She didn't want to do anything unless she felt she was ready and she did not want to have any regrets. "I know. Look, mom, I have to go." She said as she as the double doors opened and people with Howard wear and colors entered the room. "Alright, I love you, baby. Be safe." Her mom said. "Ok, love you too." She replied quickly before ending the call. The new people looked to Howard University's Seniors. A mixture of boys and girls, different races. Some had on Howard varsity colors. The football team and band members with their drumsticks and hats. Tiana watched a man step forward. His hair was slicked back and all she saw was tattoos over his exposed parts. His skin was slightly tanned and he had a nose ring. "Welcome fresh meat, to Howard University. This is where I give you the speech on how things run, what to expect, etc. You will be shown to your dorms and as it always been, girls on the west side and boys on the east side. Now I know some like to jump in the ring so I warn you to keep your s****l relationships to yourselves." He spoke bluntly to them all. His eyes scanned the room for a moment before continuing his speech. Looking at all the females in this room. Few redheads and blondes. More brunettes and he's never seen so many beautiful, black ladies with nice mocha skin sitting in one room. All victims. You had the ones with real hair or fake. If she was an innocent or naughty girl but that was not hard to figure out. All you have to do is just look at her outfit and watch her personality and how she carried herself. Tiana felt a weight being lifted off her shoulder as he explained traditions and more. She has never been so nervous in her life. This was the beginning of her first year of college and she wanted to enjoy her moments without any trouble. Listening to him speak of how to find our dorms, he dismissed everybody to do so. Tiana stood to her feet and made her way to the stand. She looked around the table as well as tried to get around everyone to find her name. She found the name tag with her name and a key and she grabbed it. D-18. "Everyone has 20 minutes to get settled in and you need to come back down here." He said before walking out the area. Tiana walked out to find her room. She felt her nerves tingling and she couldn't calm her nervousness. She headed up the stairs and she must have not been paying attention because she ran into someone's back, making them drop their belongings to the ground. Gasping loudly, Tiana spoke quickly. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to do that. I wasn't paying attention...." she trailed off as she bent down and picked up all the papers. She rose to her feet as she shuffled the papers back together. She looked up and realized it was the man giving the speech. And he did not look too happy. He snatched the papers out of her hand and walked away like that. Tiana stood in shock. She thought he could have been thankful at least. Rude. She took in some breaths before continuing to her room. D-16... D-17... And finally D-18 She turned the key and entered her room. She heard an audible voice as she closed the door. "Alright, Auntie May. Can I finish unpacking my things?" The girl who was her roommate. Her hair was blonde, cut into a nice straight bob. She wore a dark red sweater and dark blue jeans with black converse. She ended her call and she turned about to leave out the room but stopped in her tracks when she saw Tiana. "You must be my new roomy?" Tiana nodded as she held out her hand. "Tiana." She said simply. "Danielle but people call me Dani." She replied, shaking Tiana's hand back. "Well, nice to meet you," Tia said. "Likewise." *** In twenty minutes of getting acquainted, Tiana and Danielle headed back down to the big spacing area. As soon as she walked in she noticed that man from earlier. He was seated at a table by himself, looking around. "Do you know him?" Tiana questioned Danielle as she nodded in his direction. "That's Carter Mason. He's a senior that's very closed off from people but he does not mind giving orders. That's what I heard." Confusion appeared on her face as she took everything she said in. Tiana looked back over to him and looked at him with curiosity. Carter Mason, huh...
