Chapter 2

1001 Words
Lake Dylan Pavia was probably the universe’s favorite. Blessed with a tall height, beautifully tanned skin, beautiful pair of eyes, a tall nose, and perfectly carved lips. He stood out even his plain white shirt and dark jeans. Oh, he was also a varsity player for basketball. He was the epitome of “tall, dark, and handsome” or the ideal type of most hormonal teenagers. Luckily, Ayanna was a teenager but she was not hormonal enough. She was one of the few who were not willing to trade their souls just to date him. If anything, Ayanna could barely care about him. He was a player with a bad record of dating girls for a week then dumping them—not in the humiliating way. But still, he could have made an effort for the relationships to last. Still, that did not mean that she was not affected when she happened to bump into him in the hallway. She had never been that close to him and for a moment, she understood why the girls would go crazy about him in hopes of being the one to “change him”. Ayanna could have sworn they read a little too many novels and watched quite a lot of romance series. That was why Ayanna thought love was an overused and overrated term. It was bringing out everyone’s craziness. Too bad, Lake was a playboy and there was no stopping him. “Sorry,” she apologized, continuing on her way without waiting for his reply. She found her way on the lobby and sat on her usual seat—which was the floor—at the corner. She then took out the lunch she packed from her bag. As a broke teenager, she could not waste any single penny and bringing lunch—which was basically just a rice and a canned tuna—was the best option. With her mind still filled with her new-found mission, she grumpily ate. “What happened to you?” Lilia appeared all of a sudden, taking a seat beside Ayanna. “Why are you here? I thought you have class,” Ayanna said instead of replying to Lilia’s question. “The professor’s nowhere to be found. But that’s not what’s important here,” Lilia said. “Let me guess, are you still thinking about what we have talked about earlier? You do know I was joking then, right?” Ayanna shook her head, a small smile playing on her lips. “No, Lilia, it was a genius plan!” she exclaimed, putting down her Tupperware where her lunch was just so she could clasp her hands together. “I can just find someone to make me fall in love. I’ll find someone nice who would shower me with compliments and—” “I don’t think it works that way,” Lilia tried to cut her off. But Ayanna, being herself, continued to speak. “—and someone who would care for me and act all sweet. Now, how can I not fall in love with someone like that?” “You may not end up falling in love with them. It’s not like you’re gonna date someone who makes girls fall for him as a hobby. Even then, there’s no guarantee that it will be a foolproof plan,” Lilia, being the reasonable one, reasoned out. However, Ayanna had always been allergic to reason. Instead, a different solution entered her mind. Her eyes widened in realization and her jaw dropped. The gears in her head were once again turning as a smile slowly crept into her lips. Then, it became a wide grin. “You’re a genius, you are!” she squealed, making some students turn in their way but the interest immediately disappeared upon seeing that nothing was amiss. “Why didn’t I think of that? I should get someone who is an expert in this department. The students in this university aren’t angels, you know? It should be easy to get one.” Then, she gasped. “I know! What better way to solve this problem than to seek for help from the top of the top players!” Lilia’s face dropped. “No, you don’t mean—” “Lake Dylan Pavia,” the name, as foreign as it was to Ayanna’s tongue, rolled out of her tongue strangely. It was like a drop of poison in her mouth, so lethal, so disgusting. Nevertheless, she was grinning. She was so contented with her own plan—if one could call a sudden burst of idea as a plan that was. Shaking her head, Lilia pursed her lips. “No, Ayanna, your plan does not make any sense at all.” “Oh, come on! If I can just make him date me for about three months, I will surely fall for him, no? At least get attached to him! Then, I’ll be broken after three months. But he’ll dump me by then,” Ayanna whined. “No, that doesn’t make any sense, Ayanna,” Lilia once again tried. “Plus, you do know that he dates women and then dump them after a week. The longest was one week and two days! I doubt you’ll end up loving him in a week.” “I doubt that too but I would push my luck and break up with him after three months which is on the day of my birthday for extra drama.” Ayanna nodded her head firmly as if she was agreeing with herself. “No.” “Yes,” Ayanna laughed. “Ayanna.” “Lilia.” Lilia let out a groan. “This is stupid. Do whatever you want. But if you somehow made a fool of yourself or if you end up getting hurt, I would be the first to tell you that ‘I told you it’s stupid’.” She let out a grumpy huff. She knew Ayanna was being extremely ridiculous and she knew Ayanna knew that too. On the other hand, while she was aware of the ridiculousness of herself, she could not help but to be thrilled. She was yet to have a boyfriend, she was yet to go on dates, the present time would be the perfect time to experience all of those! What better way to experience all of those than to go on dates with an expert in making girls fall for him? Now, all she had to do was to make Lake agree. And she would prove that Lilia was wrong.
