Prologue
She stood five feet away still just as beautiful as the day they had wed, he still loved her, but he knew him being here was a crime to his people, her long brown hair had been cut, so now it fell just barely past her shoulders, he knew she loved her hair, her bottomless dark eyes were lighter, with gold in them marking her as a werewolf, a monster. He should have killed her the night she came to him and showed him the bite mark. Telling him she was going to turn. He had been weak, she still looked like his wife, the girl who said ‘I do’ three years ago. “Why have you called on me?” He demands looking at her with hate, hating himself for being so weak he should kill her now, but he won’t. “I am with a child.” She said stepping closer, the moon hung high in the sky but it was not full or she would not be human.  “So your mate has gotten you pregnant and now you come to rub it in my face.” He spat at her.  “No, my dear husband.” She said he knew she still loved him just as he loved her. “I am four months along.”  “Four months?” That was not possible because she had only been turned two months ago.  “Far too long for my mate to get me pregnant, my love, I carry your children.”  “I am not your husband or your love anymore.” He spat at her. “Stop calling me so.”  “Very well,” she says sadly. “I am pregnant with twins, four months along, I have not shifted into a wolf since the first time, it is said wolves who carry children can’t shift for fear they will hurt their young.”  “You think they are mine?” He asked her.  “Mark,” she says his name and his heart skips a beat, he missed her so much and seeing her like she is now is heartbreaking. “They are yours, this was not the way I wished to tell you but I am carrying your children.”  “What do you wish for me to do?” Mark snapped.  “When they are born, I will pass them off to you.” She says sadly. “You will raise them away from this world.”  “You’ll give them to me?” Mark asked in shock he had not known this is why she asked him here, she could have just written a letter.  “I don’t want them to grow up in the werewolf world, I don’t want them to be Hunters, I just want them to be human.” She cried to him, tears fell down her cheeks. Mark could see just how hard this must be for her, they had tried for children for so long, and then she was turned into a werewolf and they were dead to each other, she went to live with the pack that had turned her.  “I won’t take both,” Mark tells her, “I can not do that to you, you keep one and I will take one and they shall never know about it other, I will take one away and we will move to a city and I’ll retire from Hunters to raise our child.”  “I shall call on you when they are born.” She says and turns to leave.  “Charlotte,” Mark calls. “Wait, I am sorry for doing this to you.”  She looked at him, tears falling down her face. “I do not blame you Mark, I knew this was a dangerous life, but we had three wonderful years. And I will never stop loving you, and I am happy to give you a child you always wanted.”  Charlotte left after slipping into the shadows, she should blame him, he hadn’t watched her back that well and it cost her. He would be back, he was still sorry he left her as a werewolf but now he was glad he didn’t kill her or he would never become a father for he would never marry again, Charlotte had been the love of his life.
