2. CHAPTER TWO

2004 Words
I had to report myself. I just had to. I wanted to wait, hope that one of his girlfriends already got him lunch and he wouldn’t bother me that day but what if I was wrong? What if none of his girlfriends got him lunch and he just sat in his car waiting for me to bring his lunch like I was supposed to do? If I just assumed he had already eaten and he hadn’t then I would be setting myself up for a proper lashing. My entire body trembled violently as I walked towards the parking lot. He was there. I could smell him. All the Whites smell like pinecones and Jake’s personal scent is something similar to sandalwood. It’s quite a unique scent and around this natural scent of pinecones and sandalwood, I could perceive an unnatural bubble gum scent. It wasn’t unusual for Jake’s scent to be mixed with a girl’s because he was always surrounded by them.  It should have occurred to me that the bubble gum scent was too strong to belong to a girl he had been with earlier in the day. I should have known that the scent was intertwined with his in a way that could only mean one thing but it would never have occurred to me that people would be having s*x in the school’s parking lot during lunch break.  I stared in a sort of transfixed horror at the tinted windows of Jake’s Jeep that my wolf eyes could easily see through. The Jeep was rocking dangerously and from where I stood, I could hear the sound of loud and breathy moans and deep grunts as the girl from English class bounced on Jake. Her pink shirt was lifted as well as her bra, giving her lover easy access to her chest. It was my first time ever seeing people get dirty and I was about to turn and flee when hazel green eyes latched on to mine, holding me captive. I had to leave, this was private and personal and I was the creep watching people have s*x in a car, except I wasn’t actually watching them have s*x. I was staring at the captivating eyes of Jake and they were holding me to the spot. His beau, whatever she was called, must have noticed her lover’s eyes somewhere else so she turned and her eyes caught mine. I could see the discomfort flit across her face from where I stood and she uneasily yanked her shirt down.  “Can she see us?” I heard the girl ask and Jake’s smooth laughter vibrated from his chest.  “Don’t be ridiculous, Kylie. No one can see through this glass without pressing their nose to it,” He murmured, stoking her body.  “It’s Kayleen,” The girl grumbled in offense  “What?” Jake murmured against her skin and she pushed him off. “You asshole! My name is Kayleen!” She shouted and that was the end of their love making session.  She scrambled off his laps to the passenger’s seat and started to right her clothes.  “What does it matter? Kaylee or Kylie? You’re still my doll,” He purred at her and if he had at least gotten the name right then she would have climbed up on him but no, he had to go and call her Kaylee five seconds after she told him her name. “My friend warned me about you! She said you were nothing but a player out to use girls as nothing but your s*x toys but I thought she was only being jealous that you finally noticed me. I thought I could have something tangible with you but I’m not going to stay with someone only out to tangle,” She huffed.  “I’m not asking you to stay with me, Kaylee, “ He said. Okay, he definitely did that on purpose. “I don’t want you to stay with me. I’m just here to show you a good time but since you’re looking for a wedding ring, kindly get the f**k out of my car,” He said in a dark voice.  “You asshole –“ She raised her hand against him and with lightening speed, he caught it in a tight grip. “Let me go,” She tried to yank her hand away but she only succeeded in getting his nails embedded into her wrist.  “Never. Ever. EVER. Try to raise your hands against me in your miserable life or else, I. WILL. RIP. THEM. OFF,” He enunciated with menace dripping from his every word.  He was angry. I willed my legs to run but they would not oblige me. Obviously no one had brought him lunch and now he was sexually frustrated and seething with anger. By the goddess, I wouldn’t be surprised if he slashed my throat in annoyance. The girl, Kayleen, stumbled out of his car as he shoved her away. Her eyes were red rimmed and I felt pity for her. If she would have allowed it, I would have wrapped my arms around her to offer some kind of comfort because hugs were magical like that. She shouldered past me as she moved, muttering something under her breathe.  “Loser,” she said angrily as she marched on but I did not take it to heart. My heart was already filled with insults and I wasn’t the one who had gotten kicked out halfway into sexy time. I wasn’t the one who just got used like a piece of tissue before being tossed out like garbage.  “Where’s my food?” Jake was in front of me, questioning me about the food I had promised, the one I spent close to twenty minutes packing off the ground. Irritation and buzzing anger hung on his words and painted his face.  “I – I swear. I – I,” my voice discarded me then to make matters worse.  “You – you what? Clara? Where is my food? Do you expect me to not eat or are you girls on a quest to disappoint me today?” He hissed angrily and I cowered, trying to disappear into the ground at his harsh words.  “I was s – shoved and the food spilled – I’m – I’m sorry,” I muttered while I stared at the asphalt beneath my dirty shoes.  “You were shoved?” He probed and I nodded. “Of course you were shoved! You were in someone’s way! That’s all you omegas do; get in people’s way,” He shouted. “I – I’m sorry,” I was already beginning to sniffle from the tears choking me.  “Sorry won’t feed me, Clara. Don’t you know your place anymore? You’re a pathetic omega and your duty is to serve those who keep your sorry ass protected. Have you forgotten I’m your gamma?” He demanded and I shook my head furiously. “No, I haven’t,” I whispered quietly to the ground.  “Then give me your lunch money. I didn’t bring any because some useless thing was supposed to bring me lunch but how can one trust an omega to do something so simple!” He exclaimed, shoving his plans towards my direction.  I had only ten buck with me and it was the last cash I had. I gave it to him and he took it. He took it and left and throughout that day, my stomach cried for food. ** As soon as I opened the door to our house after school, I felt something collide with my legs and wrap around them.  “Hey, Jessy. How was school today?” I asked, picking up my little sister. She was already seven and too old to be picked off the ground all the time but she allowed it with me because according to her, I was her ‘most favourite person in the world' and I loved her. She was also my favourite person in the world, my one ray of sunshine in a dark and dreary world.  “It was fine. Beta Oliver says I’m his girlfriend now. Why are you late? He is very angry,” She whispered conspiratorially to me.  Detention. Detention was what made me late and of course he would be angry at me. I was an hour late from school and that meant he had had to pick Jessy from school and stay with her till I got home.  I could pick out the scent of peppermint that was our family’s scent and then a scent of grapefruit mixed with the peppermint and it belonged to him.  “Did he say anything to you?” I asked cautiously and she shook her head.  “He didn’t say anything but I could feel his anger when he stopped by the school to pick me up,” She whispered and I nodded. Jessy was an omega like myself and omegas are generally empathic. We could read the room quite well and know what a person was feeling based on the energy around them. It was a good resource to know when a person becomes angry so you know to run or prepare for a beating.  I was walking out of the kitchen with Jessy still in my arms when I heard the heavy thud of footsteps in our small house. “Go to your room,” I said as I set her down and gave her a little nudge to urge her to run. By the stench of the anger I could perceive, we could perceive, things were about to get ugly and she should never have to witness it.  “Where were you?” His voice was calm as he blocked off my access to the stairs that led to the rooms. His hands were pushed into his pockets with pulled back shoulders giving him the illusion of relaxation but his shoulders were stiff and his eyes were hard so I could not be fooled.  “I was at school – I – I had detention,” I answered him, taking a frightened step backwards. He advanced slowly on me until the back of my knees hit the side of a couch. My heart pounded furiously, my hands shook as I wrung them together.  “Detention,” There was still a calm stillness in his tone and it made me shiver because this was the calm before the deadly storm. I was nodding now and my eyes were already dripping with tears. “Do you think you can afford to stay in school for extracurriculars? I had to pick up the brat from school and feed her while you gallivanted about, abandoning your duties,” His voice started to raise until he was shouting at me, spittle flying into my face.  “I’m sorry, Quinn. I didn’t plan to. I – I didn’t mean to. Please, forgive me. It will never happen again,” I started to beg. “You w***e – You filthy little b***h. This is how you make me seem like the bad guy when you’re the one going about ruining people’s lives. I had a match to play today but I had to leave it when Ma called for someone to pick up the brat,” He slowly started to unbuckle his belt, drawing it out slowly. “Is your plan to give this family a bad name? Do you want the elementary school to label us as the family that leaves their child in school after everyone else is gone?” He shouted and I tried to run then but he caught me by my hair, yanking out a few strands before the belt descended on me.  “Please, it won’t happen again – please,” I shouted, falling into the couch behind me but he wouldn’t listen. The belt continued to go up and down in a fast rhythm, hitting me everywhere. My hand flew to every spot that was hit as I continued to flinch, trying to scramble away. My other hand shielded my face from my brother’s belt.  “It won’t happen again because if it does, I’ll kill you!” He shouted, continuing to hit me with the belt. The head of the belt caught me on my arm and when he yanked it up, blood gushed from the injury.  I managed to scramble away from him but he followed. I dodged his belt as it made for my head and it hit me so close to my eye. He was still hitting me as I ran until I made it all the way up the stairs into my room.
