Chapter 2

Keya "Keya, can you open this door already!" Vivian's impatient voice and knocks sounded on the door. I had locked it on purpose. I twirled myself around. "How do I look?" I asked Asher. It's finally the day, Asher's parents' anniversary. I decided to video call him, so he could help me in picking the best outfit. I had to look my best for such an important event. We were invited in honor of the late Beta of the Ember Haven pack. On the other hand, I was invited specially by Asher himself. The excitement of us finally dating openly. And no, Asher and I aren't mates. We both haven't found our mates. But we won't let that chain us down. I'm okay with having Asher as my man as much as I am his woman. "You're looking breathtaking, baby girl. I can't wait to have my hands on the perfect curves of yours," he said, and that made me blush, as always. "Hang in there. You-" "What the hell is wrong with you, Keya!" Vivian's aggressive voice cut off what I was going to say. I rolled my eyes. My sister can be a pain in the ass sometimes. "My sister won't let me be in peace. Anyways, I will see you later," I said, waving my hand over the phone. "I love you, baby girl." "I love you too." And then I ended the call. With anger fuming inside me, I walked to the door and opened it, only to get attacked by Vivian's angry face. "Are you crazy!" She charged, walking past me into the room. She was holding some bags, which she dropped on the bed. "Calm down, my dearest sister. You need to cut yourself some slack sometimes," I said, holding her by the arms. She jerked away. "Oh, so father's business will go down the drain, right? Do you think our procurement company will still be in business if I don't work my ass off?" I heaved out a sharp breath. There comes my sister with the never-ending talk about our father's company. Well, I don't blame her though; rather, I'm proud of her for taking care of the company in his absence. My father is a procurement pioneer, apart from his role as the Beta of Alpha Desmond. Our company is a small-scale company with just three employees. Now that father is no more, my sister Vivian has taken over. While mother opened up a food canteen at the neighborhood market. "Better get ready; you will soon join the company as a staff." I didn't resist rolling my eyes. Only if she knew. By the time I get into the Alpha's family, we won't have to worry about our business failing. I know Asher will support me. "Why are you even dressed like this? It's not our event," she said, assessing my dressing. I pinned my hair behind my ear. "Well... Alpha Desmond invited us himself. And as the family of the late Beta of the Ember Haven pack, it's normal for us to look our best. Go get ready," I urged her. "You and mom can go ahead. I need to sort things at the company first," she said, gesturing towards the stack of bags on the bed. I shrugged my shoulders. I don't mind. After all, I will get to spend time with Asher before then. And I won't have her looking at me with her suspicious eyes. Want to know what interrupted our little moment with Asher the other night? It was a firework. A bloody firework. However, we still had the best s*x of all times. Thinking about it gives my skin goosebumps. Mother and I left for the Ember Haven pack where Alpha Desmond and his wife's anniversary was taking place. You could hear the soft music playing right from the entrance gate. The pack was adorned with flowers and colorful lights that gave the surroundings a calmer and more vibrant look. "Coming here reminded me of Levi," Mother broke the silence as we made our way towards the event hall. I didn't miss the sadness in her eyes. I knew she missed her husband. I side-hugged her. "We're here to celebrate and enjoy. Don't think too much about it. I-" the buzz of my phone from my purse halted my sentence. I fished it out and saw it was a text from Asher. 'Can we meet in my room for a bit?' "Who is that?" Mother asked. I slipped the phone back. "It's Vivian. She said she's on her way. Mother, can you go first? I will just make a phone call." I flashed her a smile before she could argue because she was looking at me as if she wasn't convinced with what I said. "Alright. See you in there." I nodded and watched as she sauntered away before fishing out my phone once again and dialed Asher's number. "Hey, where are you?" I hushed out as I stepped inside his room and was met with no one. A pair of strong arms hugged me from behind. The familiar scent of Asher beat through my nostrils. "And here's my baby girl," he said, turning me around. He wasted no time in claiming my lips. My body instantly melted in his touch. Before I knew it, my hand circled around his neck, deepening the kiss. Asher was the first to break free from the kiss. Nevertheless, his thumb caressed my face. "You're looking gorgeous, baby girl." "All for you. And you're not looking bad yourself." I winked. He continued to run his thumb over my face while he stared into my eyes. I found myself drowning in the pool of his eyes. "Why? You can't get enough of my beauty?" I raised a brow. "Honestly, yes. I'm lucky to have you as my woman. I need no mate." "Are you sure you don't?" I asked again, my hands going down to circle his waist seductively. "Very sure. Do you know, today you're looking extraordinarily beautiful?" "Uhm." "Anyways, today we're making it official. I'm going to kill two birds with one stone. Father is going to announce me as the next in line Alpha while I will announce you as my future Luna. Isn't that perfect?" I nodded my head and planted a kiss on his cheeks. "Be my Alpha." "You're my Luna already. Let's head inside." He extended his hand, and I placed mine in his. Asher and I made our way to the event hall, but not hand in hand. I met my sister already with mother. She gave me a suspicious look. "Where the hell did you disappear to?" Vivian bombarded the moment I walked up to them. I knew she won't free me with questions. "Like I said, I was making a call," I said. Vivian gave me a look of 'You can't make a fool out of me' then passed me a bouquet of flowers. "The Alpha and his wife asked of you. I know you forgot to bring flowers." "How sweet of you, big sister. Thank you." I blew an imaginary kiss towards her, and she rolled her eyes. I made my way towards a stand where Alpha Desmond and his wife were standing together with Asher. "Hello," I commenced. "You're here, Keya," Alpha Desmond said while Mrs. Celine hugged me. "Congratulations," I said to both of them, passing the flowers to Mrs. Celine. "Thank you, Keya. You're looking stunning," Mrs. Celine commented. "Thank you, Ma'am." I didn't miss the sly smile that clouded Asher's face. The two then excused themselves, and Asher and I were left alone. "See. My parents like you already. Look at how they're praising you." I suppressed the urge to roll my eyes. "Normally, I'm a beautiful woman. I might be nineteen years old, but I have the brain of a twenty-something-year-old lady." Asher shook his head. The voice of Alpha Desmond on the microphone got the attention of the people. He expressed his heartfelt gratitude to his pack people and also to my late father. I caught sight of my mother wiping her tears. Next, Asher was being summoned to the stage. My chest thumped loudly inside. I was anticipating this day, but now nervousness was killing me. Alpha Desmond announced his retirement with Asher as the new Alpha of the Ember Haven pack. Cheers and claps echoed through the hall. "I would like to appreciate our pack members and the packs we formed alliances with for coming here to celebrate with us. I promise to work hard and take the pack to more greater heights. And I would also like to announce a good news to our company investors and shareholders. But before that, I would like to call Keya Levi up stage. We have an announcement to make." The rate at which my heart was thumping grew two-fold. My mother and sister's confused eyes fell on me. Same goes to Alpha Desmond and his wife. I summoned my courage and made my way up stage towards Asher. "Brace yourself. The real bomb is dropping now," he whispered, giving me his charming smile. I flashed back and nodded my head. "Please give me a minute of your time and watch this video." Suddenly, a screen from nowhere lit up. My eyes widened in shock as I stared at the screen.
