Chapter 1

1503 Words
The heavy pitter-pattering of the rain hitting the roof of every family's home in Halsey State was like a lullaby cradling everyone to sleep. A few miles away from suburban city, there was a road called Road 733 or what most motorist called as the Blood Point. Accidents frequently occur in this road despite it being just a long straight line connecting Halsey State and Vermillion City. Top with the current rainy season, more accidents were bound to happen and couldn’t be avoided. It would have been a fine journey if someone took this road during the day, but during nighttime, it’s a different story. Wild animals, zero visibility due to the lack of light and thick fog; these are just one of the few causes of the accidents. As the rain slowly switched into a drizzle, the thick fog enveloping the whole area started to thin down. And there, in the middle of the road, was an upturned car. Mud and blood were mixed in the rainwater as a little girl crawled out from the damaged vehicle. Her once beautiful dress ornamented with stitched flowers were now tattered and torn. Blood was gushing out from her left ear and left eye making her unsightly to look at. “Mom? Dad?” Her raspy little voice echoed on this desolate road as she called out for her parents. The sound of the rain was a pain not just to her ears, but also to her worried heart. Her breathing became faster that her sides hurt when she realized she was all alone. "Help!" She kept on calling out her parents’ names but only the sound of the bullfrogs could be heard. The despair she felt right now was more intense compared to the time when she got lost at the theme park. Because of the blood blocking her left eye, she had difficulty figuring out who were the two approaching silhouettes. Whether if it was a friend or a foe. The moment those two got closer, the little girl choked up a small sob. “Honey!” A lady beamed worriedly at her. It was her mother. “Thank goodness you’re alright!” "Are you alright, sweetie?" The man beside the lady asked. It was her father. His heart ached when she saw her daughter's terrible situation. He wiped her bloody face with his shaking hands, but it only made him flustered when he saw the blood spreading even more. The little girl closed her eyes. When she opened it again, tears were streaming down from her eyes nonstop as she nodded at them. She wanted to wail but she could only purse her lips together. Even though her parents were already in front of her, she felt empty and could only cry silently. Seeing that the usual glow from her parents' face were far gone, she instantly knew that the thing she dreaded the most finally happened. The woman held the little girl's face and wiped the tears. "Don't cry, my little pumpkin. It's not your fault." She shushed. The little girl held her head down and sobbed. "But I don't want you to leave me. No, not yet." Being alone was the very thing she hated the most, and now her parents were leaving her. The couple were lost for words. They knew exactly what she was talking about, what she was referring to. Her innocent eyes looked straight to them with a pained expression, watching them blend in the fog slowly. "What's going to happen to me now?" The two adults were silent and could only looked at each other, signaling who should console the crying child. Moments pass, the man decided to answer the little girl. "It's not your time yet, sweetie. We will be together soon... but not now." The woman hugged her tight and whispered. "Someone will help you, I know that. So please, hang on and live your life well. Everything will change soon, and you'll finally become happy." Although she knew it was bound to happen, the little girl was reluctant to part with them. The only thing inside her head right now was the fact that she will be alone for the rest of her life. She sobbed even more when the couple completely dissipated into thin air, leaving her in the middle of nowhere. A heart-wrenching cry echoed along the highway of Road 733. This accident was fated to happen. She saw it. But a child like her could only be helpless since she couldn't do anything to stop it or avoid it from happening. Before she fell unconscious to the ground, her parents' voices echoed inside her head. Her young mind was in a mess so she didn't knew what they were talking about. "Trust nobody, Raven." ? Raven opened her eyes. The first thing she saw was her ceiling. The shadows of the tree outside her window almost made her squeal in fright. She just had a nightmare. Propping herself up from her bed, she tried recalling the dream she had. It was the same dream eversince her parents died. Although the scenes changed everytime, it was the same setting. And this time, it was even more detailed. She only realized her hands were trembling slightly when she reached out for the bottle of water on her bedside table. She took large gulps of the water, letting it trickle down her chin. Wiping her mouth with the back of her hand, her gaze flung to the alarm clock. It was still 3 in the morning. A not-so-new thing to her, she's been like this eversince she was little. Waking up in the middle of the night because of a nightmare; trembling, parched, covered in sweat, Her body was so full of sweat that she couldn't help but grimaced when felt her shirt was sticking to her body like a glue. She was sweating profusely despite the cold temperature, and if she'll wring her shirt right now, probably a cup of sweat can be taken out of it. She also felt her face were sticky and wet. The tears were about to dry so she gently wiped it with her blanket. Sighing, she looked at the mirror on the vanity table. "Crying again because of a dream? When will you grow up?" She mumbled while looking at herself on the mirror. She was half unamused and half embarrassed of herself for crying. She stared at her features. Her long wavy hair was a little bit disheveled. Probably from tossing and turning. Gladly her hair wasn't stiff and frizzy or else it would look like a witch's broom used for cleaning a grimy chimney. Black eyes glimmered under the moonlight like two black orbs stealing energies from those who look straight at it. Even her skin that was just naturally pale looked ghastly due to the lack of lighting. Raven hoisted herself up so that her back would be fully against the headboard, resting her body comfortably before taking deep breaths. Meditation always helped clear her mind. That dream she had earlier was about the day her parents died. She was 6 years old that time when they got into a car accident, killing both of her parents except for her. This dream was like an annual thing. Whenever her parents' death anniversary was just around the corner, Raven got to relive those memories every night. She couldn't avoid it and it was a torture. It's already 10 years but it still felt like yesterday. She was calming herself down by taking deep breaths, counting from one to ten. While thinking of what breathing exercise she should do next, a hurried footstep was heard outside of her room. Staring at the door, a thought struck inside her head. "Hmm, wonder why she's up." Raven unhurriedly smoothened her blanket and comfortably watched the door open. When it did, she came in contact with Lilibeth's worried look. "Are you alright?" Lilibeth asked she entered the room. Raven smiled sweetly at the lady. She didn't replied to Lilibeth, rather she tapped the empty space beside her. "Come, sit." Lilibeth didn't receive the reply she wanted so she could only sit beside her. Her eyes were looking at Raven, filled with worry and sadness. Reaching out her hand to wipe the latter's cheek, she asked. "Was it a bad dream?" Raven hummed a response. "Same dream?" Lilibeth asked even though she already knew the answer. "Want me to accompany you?" As she said those, Lilibeth took her hand and squeezed it gently. Raven could only nod. She felt like her energy was draining away from her the moment her hand was held. She slowly leaned on Lilibeth's shoulder as she listen to her hum a familiar song that the lady always sang to her whenever she had terrible dreams. The lady's sweet voice was slowly pulling her back to slumber, exhausting away the remaining energy she had. "Sleep now." Lilibeth whispered that immediately made her fall asleep.
