Prologue

Rain splattered wildly against the windows of the apartment building. The warm aroma of freshly made food was drowned out by the pungent smell of mud. I stood in the middle of the room, my fists clenched and my heart racing as I looked towards the family picture hanging on the wall. Tears sprang to my eyes, the memory of the day still freshly engraved into my mind.  I remembered the words mother told me the first time I met her. 'A family...no matter what happens never lets go of each other's hands'. Mom told me that when it comes to family, I should not let go. But sometimes there are times when you need to let go. I realized that at this moment, letting go was the only way we can hold on tighter.  ''It was me''
