She goes to school just like other typical teenagers, and studies hard to excel. Unlike other teenagers though, she had to work to support herself and her family. She is currently working as a service crew at a fast food restaurant, but she had too look for another job to augment the increasing expenses in school and her family. She’s a very diligent student and hardworking student, which is why she’s always at the top of her class. When she graduated from high school, she was the class valedictorian, and she passed the entrance exam to one of the most prestigious schools in the country, the University of the Philippines. She’s always wanted to be a doctor, and Biology has always been her favorite subject. She also wanted to help her mom, who’s been sick for the longest time and make her better. Because she’s a very smart student, she was able to get a scholarship grant, which meant free tuition and miscellaneous fees, and also includes a monthly allowance that is enough to sustain her transportation, food, and school things. Despite this, she still had to get two part-time jobs in order to support her family’s expenses. Her mom had a stroke a few years back, and since they can’t afford her treatment, she’s unable to fully move her body. Therefore, she was unable to go back to work and just stays at home to look after her younger brother. Aubrey’s brother is now 12-years old and is in his freshman year in high school. Just like Aubrey, he’s a very smart and hardworking student. With her two jobs, she’s able to support her family’s daily needs, which includes food on table. She’s struggling with paying their monthly bills, though, which always causes her plenty of stress.  Luckily, Aubrey is an optimistic person. She always looks at her current situation as an opportunity to be stronger. She always looks ahead, and looks forward to the moment when she finishes her studies and finally becomes a successful doctor. By then, she can afford everything her mom and brother needs, and she could even give them the luxuries in life that they never experienced having, like a car and a bigger house. This though always motivates her to do better in school and continue going to work. Luckily, her dad left them a house of their own that they didn’t have to pay rent for. Even if they lose power or water, at least they have a place to rest their heads, and they don’t have to sleep on the streets. When Aubrey thinks of the blessings she has, however meager they are, she always feels lucky. She never gets jealous of her classmates who come to work driving their own cars, or flashing their branded apparel, and using the latest mobile phone model. She’s content with what she has, and she’s happy knowing that she has a family at home who loves her, and always looks forward to her coming home.
