~ • ~ • ~ • ~ "WHO am I going to compete with?" She deliberately maximized her voice just to make them hear her. She has been complaining to her friends, but no one seemed to be interested in her disputes. If it wasn't only because they were her friends, they would've gotten what they deserved. She belonged to a wealthy clan, no one should ignore her! "Not yet here, Heathe." One of her friends answered in quite a lazy manner. "Who's that person? A VIP?!" Her voice increased a pitch. She even thought of throwing the headgear in her hand. "Maybe they got stuck in traffic. And besides, it's still early. So calm down there, Heathe." Her other friend responded. She rolled her eyes. The last thing she would've wanted to do with her life was to wait. Granting she was mostly late, but she didn't have the patience to wait for someone. Again, she was a VIP, she had every right to be demanding. Honestly, if it wasn't because of two-hectare land, she should've been at a party at that moment, not stalling for her rival in a motorcycle race tonight. Howbeit, learning that somebody with the guts dared her for a race was absolutely stunning. Even though she mostly raced cars, it was somewhat interesting to try new adventures. So, she agreed. The said property was a farm she inherited from her family's wealth. She could've just asked someone to settle everything about it rather than herself, who, unfortunately, was waiting at the moment. It would've been so easy to evict people from that land if she had only ignored the person who challenged her for a race. But curiosity filled her mind. Despite being used to being provoked by other racers who came from the same walk of life as her, the challenger from a farm was the first one. It certainly piqued her interest. Whether it was a boy or a girl, it didn't matter. Nonetheless, she could have let this go and let the farmers stay on the property, peacefully. They owned several businesses and that little land would not be too much to lose if she would disregard it. In fact, it had been for decades, so she couldn't blame the people if they had already kept it as their own. Until some business owners got interested in it because of its ideal location. Given that she got the authority to do everything she wanted with the property, she decided to sell it and spend all the money on upgrading her racetrack, instead. It did not occur to her mind that she would manage a farm because there was only one affair she was engaged in; racing. That was the short version of why she ended up waiting tonight. She took a glance at her wristwatch, just to confirm that she had been waiting for ten minutes! She could deem herself patient, as soon as she waited longer than a minute, which was already too much for her. Impatiently blowing up the unstrung strand of her hair, she tried to loosen up by walking back and forth. She needed to calm herself to keep her focus. As she went by, her feet suddenly desisted mid-step. Raging sounds from approaching motorcycles caught their attention. She turned around and saw three people riding on their big bikes. Her lips stretched into a grin right after she caught sight of the one with the full gear, who obviously was the one she was going to compete with. It was hard to distinguish whether it was a boy or a girl, but she did not care. She could win, anyhow. The other two were not wearing helmets, so she had a chance to see their faces, which instantly made her scowl. She knew the two girls very well. They also came from well-off families and were very fond of racing cars and big bikes. They had competed with each other several times and one of those girls, the one who was wearing a black oversized printed shirt and short shorts, particularly, was Coleen De Grazias. Her mortal enemy. Coleen purposely stopped in front of her with her mouth twitching. "Nice to see you again on a race track, Heathe." She teased. She smirked, "Yeah. Let me pretend that it's been so long." Coleen laughed in her ever-irritating high-pitched tone. "A week was too long for me. And I'm still injured at this rate. But I don't want to miss the triumph of seeing you lose again." "You're so full of yourself, Cole," She responded dismissively as she took a glimpse of the other two that were parked meters away. "And who says I already lost from a bet?" Coleen shrugged her shoulders while raising a brow at her. She ignored her foe's mischievous act. Coleen could say whatever she wanted to say, and she couldn't care less. She just clearly wanted to intimidate her. Besides, she didn't know where Coleen had got the idea that she had already lost from racing when, in fact, she could double-check Alta's records if they had such detail. "Can't you just start the race? Prove to everyone your words. " Her friend, Lois, interrupted while handing her leather jacket and gloves. She and Coleen turned back to each other. But once again, she took a glimpse at her opponent. The person was indeed ready for the race. For her, when it came to a small race like this, she did not want to bother herself with a full-gear outfit. She could go with jeans, and a shirt under her favorite leather jacket, matched with a pair of comfy ankle boots, to win the race. She was about to wear her helmet on when Alesana, one of her three best friends, got her attention. "I'm dubious about that person." She started, pouting at her opponent, "I believe you can win this, but don't be over-confident. Their land is at the stake, it is where they grew up. I'm not quite certain that this person will lose tonight." Alesana warned. She beamed and tousled Alesana's hair like she used to do with her friends. "I know and just a reminder also that it's not really the land we're fighting for, it's their right to live there. Thanks, anyway. Just so you know, I don't underestimate people ." Alesana nodded. After wearing her headgear, she motioned a thumbs-up to the rival group. The three girls huddled up and had a quick group conversation. Her big bike's engine set off, and she drove towards the center of the racetrack where there was a white horizontal line indicator as a starting point. Subsequently, she noticed the presence of her opponent on the left side. Her curiosity about that person made her turn her head a little bit. From the look of it, she was convinced that it was a boy. The way that person straddled the big bike and his stands, her observation was definitely unerring. However, that matter did not intimidate her. She had the skills for racing. No one could ever frighten her. In fact, racing was her lover. Alesana walked up to the middle in front of them. In her hand was a tiny racing flag as she faced them. "Ready, fellas!" She shouted, raising the flag. On that cue, she wrenched the accelerator, which brought up a raging sound. Her opponent did the same thing. She grinned as she focused her gaze on the racing flag. "Go!!" Alesana yelled, swinging the flag down. The racetrack flared up. A mischievous smile formed on her lips. They had just started, but she was already enjoying the race. Especially when she noticed that she was advancing over her opponent. As she squeezed the accelerator, her motorcycle sped up but was not yet at the right time to set it up to full speed. She had to wait. The moment she reached the curve, she intended to block her opponent's lane. There was a tendency that her rival's speed would recede to get rid of the possible outcome. But who knew? If the racer slowed down, that would be good, but if he did otherwise, that would be the end for both of them. Very risky, indeed. Apparently, she was a person who loved taking chances. When she pulled off her scheme, the result was what she expected. It put a smug look on her face behind her helmet. Back to the straight line, their gap became further. She already smelled victory as she approached almost the finish line. It was time to accelerate at full speed. Her lips curved into a triumphant smile. Just as quickly as she prevailed over her rival, it, unfortunately, ended too soon. She felt a brisk wind blow come past her. Through her helmet, her eyes blinked several times in disbelief. She wasn't expecting that. Their distance was too far for her opponent to get even with her, but in just a split second, she was already behind. Fury started to fill her head. This shouldn't be happening! She seethed inwardly. She knew her timing was just precise, but the contender was wiser and had so much better plan under his sleeve. She became distracted even more. One last approaching curve. Then, she saw her friends waiting for her at the finish line. She once again tried, and her distance got even with the other racer. Dirty schemes filled her mind, but seeing their pace, it was too complicated to apply. She also thought of dodging her opponent, but her pride stunned her with the reality. She's not a deceiver. As they came closer to the finish line, her chances of winning were shrinking. She increased the accelerator, and seconds left when they both reached the finish line almost even. With great conviction, she knew she had won. She stopped, parking her ride across from her friends. When she took off her helmet, a grin was already plastered on her face. She flipped her long straight blonde hair that fell over her shoulders as she looked proudly at her friends. A rumbling noise abruptly stopped meters away. They all looked to the rival group. They were not that far from their sight to miss the grin that Cole threw at her. "We won, losers!" Cole yelled, which baffled her. She turned to her friends, and they seemed to be giving her a mind-blowing answer. "What the fvck?!" She growled. Alesana let out a huff. "I-It was only an inch, though." She stuttered. Heathe raked her hand through her hair in frustration. Feeling the presence of the other group getting near them, her eyebrows pulled into a crease. Her enemy was removing the headgear while heading toward them. It crossed her mind that once she got to see the face behind the gear, she would not let that person live a peaceful life. She couldn't lose because of a small, pointless bet. She arched her brows. There she saw long black hair fall strikingly from the gear. Everything turned into slow motion while she was unmindfully gaping at the girl. It was a girl! A realization just hit her after the headgear revealed a ravishing sight. Her three friends stared at the girl as agape as her. Who wouldn't? During the race, she knew it was a boy, but it turned out wrong. She was trying to convince herself that a girl like her opponent, so innocent-looking, was also a thrill-lover like her. Because looking promptly at the girl's demeanor, there was no trace of her being haughty without the gear. The girl looked so sweet, even with her impassive face. She blinked, averting her eyes away from that girl only when she heard somebody clear their throat. "I'm sorry to break the news, but you lost, Heathe," Cole mocked. She glared at her. "Really? Oh, that's great! But it doesn't seem to be as bad as what they usually say. How come I feel this way? Strange." She chuckled, hiding her disappointment. Trinity, Cole's friend, shrugged it off. "Well then, just a reminder that this is an agreement. And we are expecting that tomorrow, you'll announce at the farm that you are going to let the people live there in peace. This ain't a joke, Heathe. Stick with your words." Trinity knew so well. But she was not going to do what she had thought otherwise. She smirked. "What do you think of me, my little Trini? A daft? Of course, I'll stick to my words, silly." She called in for Alesana. "Get the papers ready by tomorrow morning. And let the farmers know that a small gathering will be held at the farm tomorrow." Her friend nodded in assurance. She looked at the three girls again, only to meet the eyes of one. She was a fan of Caucasian beauties, but for the record, it suddenly changed, seeing a drop-dead Morena for the first time. Cole put her arm over the girl's shoulder while laughing scornfully. "So our Ayen here is the only person that could make Heathe literally bite the dust." On any day, she would fire back a smart-ass response at her. But not tonight. Because her mind kept repeating the name, Ayen. And as from what she had sworn earlier, she would never let this girl have a peaceful life starting tomorrow. "I can't believe you just lost." Aly blurted out, disbelieving. They decided to go to their favorite bar not to celebrate. She just wanted to drink away the fact that she suffered defeat tonight. But instead of hating, her emotion was contrasting. Perhaps she was enthralled by the beauty of her challenger. Brushing off the thoughts of Ayen, she heard her friends laughing. "Hey! Don't tell us you're daydreaming?" Caddie giggled. Although she couldn't lie to her friends, she saw nothing wrong with hiding her true feelings. "Oh my gosh. You're plotting another unpleasant scheme for that girl," Lois assumed. "What do you think of me, a psycho?" She uttered while raising her brow. "No. But it's either you are a psycho or you are just hit by what they usually call love at first sight. The latter is impossible, so no other choice was left," Alesana explained. "Whatever, guys." "If that's Ayen, I would agree, she's beautiful. Which made me think that not all pretty girls can be found in the city. Some of them are lurking on the farm. Like that Ayen girl. Does she have a boyfriend? I wish she was into girls." When Caddie turned to her, she saw that the grin plastered on her mischievous face had a meaning to it. She frowned at her friend. "I know. I wish we could have a truce with Cole's group so that I can go near her friend." Aly stated. Obviously, her friends were just trying to tease her. As much as she wanted to ignore their playfulness, she couldn't. She knew her friends. If she didn't warn them to stay the hell out of her business with Ayen, they might proceed with their heinous intentions. "Go get yourselves something to do. Don't ever try to bug Ayen." "Whoa. Calling her by her name, as if you're close," Lois added. "I'm not joking." She hissed before taking another shot of Tequila. Clearly, her friends were not scared of her as they continued mocking her, but without mentioning Ayen's name. She just let them carry on with their playfulness. On the other hand, she suddenly realized that she had never been this protective, if she could consider it as protective, over a girl. Let alone, she just met. In fact, whenever she met a girl and her friends started to show interest, as well— and talk nasty— she actually never minded. However, tonight, she couldn't bear to hear them talking nonsense about Ayen. As things might turn out, she must have gotten enchanted. And at that very moment, she wasn't really sure whose life wouldn't remain undisturbed. Hers or Ayen? ~ • ~ • ~ • ~
