Chapter One - First Meeting

1506 Words
Skylar’s P.O.V I pulled up outside what was now my new home. I had moved from Scotland to N.Y.C. to become a writer, something I have always dreamed of, but I know it would not be that easy. I was willing to try. I had attended college back home, studying English and Creative writing, I had saved my whole life to come here, and now here I was in a city where I knew no one, knew nowhere. I was nervous, anxious and excited all at the same time. I was moving into an apartment in the Upper West Side of New York. As I said I had saved my whole life to come here, working my ass off and with help from my parents I managed to afford a place here, they insisted cause they wanted me to be in a secure building and somewhere it was safer. I would have happily lived anywhere here, but my parents were always against it. Now here I am twenty-five years old in a big city alone. All my belongings were arriving tomorrow, which meant tonight I was on the floor with a pillow and a duvet which I picked up on the way, but that was OK for one night. I took a few deep breaths before stepping out of my car. I took a moment to stand in the middle of the street in front of my apartment building, taking it all in. I still could not believe I was finally here; it was surreal and crazy to me. I finally pulled myself out of, deciding I should head and get out everyone’s way since people were sort of swerving around me. I had picked up the keys and anything else I needed for the estate agency before I arrived here, everything had been dealt with online, over the phone and video chat so when I got here, I could move straight in rather than the hassle of not finding somewhere until I got here. I headed inside, the doorman getting the door for me. “Hi, thank you.” I smiled at him. “Oh, you must be Miss Baird, our new tenant from Scotland.” The middle-aged man smiled widely at me. “Hi, yes that’s me. It is nice to meet you, Greg.” I said, noticing his name on his tag. “You too, Miss Baird.” He said. “Please call me Skylar. I don’t like getting called Miss Baird; it makes me feel old.” I laughed. “Skylar it is then.” He said laughing too. I chatted with Greg for ten minutes before I decided to head to my apartment, Greg telling me exactly where it was which I appreciated it cause it was a large apartment building. I headed over to the lift, pressing where I was going but before the door shut someone else joined me in the elevator, seems to be going to the same floor as me. It was a guy, a very beautiful looking one in work out clothes.  Oh whoa, he was handsome. I never realised I was staring at him until he cleared his throat, making me snap out of and blush like crazy. “Sorry,” I said quickly looking at the floor. “Who are you anyway? I have never seen you around here.” He asked, sounding slightly rude. I was quick to look back up at him, finding him staring at me intensely waiting for my answer. “I am Skylar. I am just moving in today.” I said. “Oh…OK. Scottish?” He asked. I nodded, my mouth going dry a little as he stared at me. “What apartment you in Angel eyes?” He asked, smirking. Angel eyes? I have never been called that before that is a new one to me.  “Um, I don’t know you. I don’t know if I should be telling you that?” I said. “Let me introduce myself. I am Logan, one of your many neighbours.” He smiled, reaching his hand out to me. I took it, shaking it, he had a strong, firm handshake. He held onto my hand longer than I think he needed, his eyes not leaving mine. I swallowed hard, my heart seeming to start beating faster in my chest. There was something about those eyes; they were dark and mysterious, very intriguing. He eventually let my hand go, which I was grateful for because I could feel my palms become clammy. There was something about his whole persona that excited me in ways which were a surprise to me; he is not usually my type. I prefer the sweeter, dorkish guys and he was far from that. He had a darkness to him, not sure what kind of dark but one anyway. He was gorgeous, toned and looked like he would protect you in those strong arms, another thing that does usually appeal to me…muscles. He was like some sort of Greek God. “And I don’t know if you should be looking at me that way since you don’t know me, Angel,” He said, a cheekiness to his smile.  “I…I…am sorry, you are just actually never mind,” I said, burying my face in my hands. Could this elevator ride be any slower? “Please do finish Miss Skylar.” He said smugly. Thankfully the elevator stopped, and the doors opened my escape route. “Bye,” I said quickly rushing out, heading down until I found my apartment…121. I tried getting in as quick as I could before I embarrassed myself some more in front of the beautiful stranger. “Well, it looks like we are neighbours Angel .” I heard his voice from behind me. What is with him using Angel so much? Angel eyes and now just Angel? What is with that? I took a deep breath before turning to face him, not wanting to come across as rude but also trying to calm myself before I embarrass myself some more. “It would seem so. Why do you keep calling me Angel or Angel eyes?” I asked curiously. “Cause you are beautiful and there is a pureness to you.” He said confidently. “I am not,” I argued. “Oh, but you are. I am very intrigued by you already, Miss Skylar. Have a good day. If you need me, you know where to find me.” He said winking before heading into his apartment which was straight across from mine. I rushed in, closing the door behind me and taking a moment to catch my breath. Who was that man? And why does he seem to be intrigued by me? The feeling was mutual; he intrigued me, too; in ways, I cannot explain. Why him? As I said, he is not my type, not one bit.  I needed rest, too much had already happened for one day. I headed for a quick shower, pulling on some sweats. I wish I had a bed right now I can just fall into. I closed all the blinds, locking the door and set my bed up on the floor for the time being. I curled up on the floor, trying to get comfortable but failing. I needed something more, maybe a blow-up mattress that would do until my bed got here, but I had no clue where to go that was close to getting something like that. I knew there was one way I could find out, Logan. I was not too keen on the idea, but I would need to put that aside if it means I can get something more comfortable to sleep on. I grabbed my phone and my keys, heading out and locking the door. I paced the hall outside his apartment for five minutes before getting the guts to knock. I knocked lightly on his door, Logan soon appearing. “Hello again, beautiful. How can I help you?” He said, flashing his charming smile at me. “Um…I am wondering if there was anywhere close by I could get a blow-up mattress until my bed comes tomorrow, the floor is not very comfortable.” I said playing with my hair refusing to make eye contact with him. Logan leant against his door frame, arms folded across his chest. He made me wait for a moment before he decided to answer me. “I can do one better. I have one if you would like to borrow that?” He asked. “No, I couldn’t,” I said, finally meeting his eyes. “I insist. We cannot have you sleeping on the floor now, can we? You head back to your apartment, and I will look it out and bring it to you. Would you like coffee or tea too since your things don’t arrive until tomorrow?” He asked. He was right; my things included my kettle, fridge and whatever else. I could do with a coffee right now. I smiled up at him. “OK. Thank You. Coffee would be great.” I said. “OK. I will see you soon, Angel eyes.” He smiled. He asked what I take in my coffee before heading into his apartment, and I headed into my own. I am not sure letting a stranger into my apartment is my best idea, but surely I will be OK? He was going to be my neighbour, after all, maybe best I get to know him, or it could be the worse idea I will ever have, time will tell I guess.
