Prologue

I sit in front of the TV on the floor while mom sits on the couch. We watch the news together. Waiting for dad to get home. My older brother Hunter is asleep in his room. And on the news, The Royal Family is on again talking about the rebellion that is happening. King Gilbert, a chubby man with tan skin he looks like he's in his fifties. He talked to the camera. Queen Angelina stands to his left slim with little curves and brown skin. Then their daughter Princess Lindsey stands on the Queen's right she was also slim but, her skin was more bronze. She looked spoiled and stuck up. Then there was Prince Warren, unlike his father he was built like a solider and his skin bronze just like his sister. He stood more like a soldier and he was beautiful. I look at King Gilbert as he reassured us that we had nothing to worry about that they had everything under control, but he doesn't even know who is leading the rebellion. People stopped believing him after the attack on a Noble family as they traveled to the palace. Some rebels attacked them. Lord Bullock broke his arm, protecting his family. Good thing no one was killed.         The door opens and dad walks in. And mom goes to help him with his coat. I watch as they steal a quick kiss. Then dad turns and looks at me.         "Hey, Princess." dad says holding his arms out for me.          "Hey, dad," I say walking over to him to hug him. Dad always called me a princess for as long as I can remember. I let him go.         "I hope you haven't been giving your mom any trouble." He turns to mom and she smiles. And father returns it. I love how much my parents love each other. Even though it could be so cheesy sometimes. Father goes to sit next to mom and I go back to my original spot.         "Where's that son of mine?" Dad asks no one in particular.          I answer, "He's asleep."         "I swear that boy won't find a wife always sleeping around or out all the time," Dad says.         Mom and dad have been urging Hunter to get married ever since he turned 18 but, Hunter is never around anymore he either asleep or out with his friends all the time. Sometimes he doesn't even come home. Mom is worried he is going rogue. Father is going harder on him nowadays. Hunter doesn't even talk to me anymore. Which is upsetting especially since we were so close before.         "So how was work?" Mom asks the same question every day. And she gets the same answer but a different complaint.         "Tiring. Tim wants me to organize his trip to the palace so they could have an important meeting. Ever since that attack on the other noble family. He wants extra guards. And he wants me to organize his notes and run the office while he's gone."         Father is Tim's assistant. Tim is an noble. He is the head of the House of Steel. Dad gets paid well but we barely see him and I can tell it hurts mom but she doesn't say anything. Dad is a hard-worker. Mom knows that.         Mom and dad continue to talk and I zone out of the conversation into my thoughts. My mind wanders to my best friend Jay who I happened to develop a crush on. I start to think about his birthday and what I was going to do. He said he wanted to just hang out do something simple. But I'm not a simple type of girl. My mind goes blank. And I found myself getting frustrated.          Then I hear a loud bang. Bringing me back to reality. I look at mom and dad. Who we're looking at each other. Then they both turned to me. Confusion covered their face.          "Faith I want you to go to your room. And let me and your mother answer the door."         "But dad..." He cuts me off before I could finish.         "This is not up for discussion," Dad says his voice harsh and demanding. I knew there was no point in arguing.         I get up and quietly walk to my room. I close the door and quietly move to my bed. I don't hear anything. I just sit there in the silence. I love silence but not this type of silence. This silence made me curious and curiosity killed the cat. After a few seconds, the silence is broken by loud voices.         "You need to leave we don't want any problems." I hear my mom's desperate voice. Which had me on my feet in an instant.         "I'm afraid I can't do that I have strict orders from his Dark Majesty."         "Look I don't want to hurt you. Just leave." Dad says his voice was cold calm. Something I never heard before.      "It won't be that easy, Your Majesty." I frown as I hear the stranger refer to my dad as Your Majesty the title of a King.          Then silence again. Then I hear loud bangs and glass crashing. This continues for a while until I hear mom scream. It sounded unhuman I barely recognized it.          "LORETTA." I hear dad scream mom's name. But then he was cut off. And I hear a hard thump.          I cover my mouth to stop me from screaming. And for a moment I lost all my senses. Then I hear footsteps coming to my room. Then I quickly gather myself together and quietly go to my closet and quickly close the door hiding in the corner making sure I was covered by my clothes. Then I hear my door open. I try not to make a sound I close my eyes and let the tears roll down my cheek.  As the footsteps walk deeper into my room.         "Hey, who the hell are you?" I hear my brother yell. And I allow a quiet gasp to escape me.         "I'm your worst nightmare." That's all the stranger says before I hear a loud thump.         I hate myself for not helping him for letting my body go into complete shock. The stranger footsteps linger in my room for little more until he finally leaves and his footsteps begin to vanish.          I stay there for a few more minutes trying to gather myself together again. I had to get out of here. I quietly open the closet door. Then when I look out I see Hunter's body lied on the floor. There was no blood. Just his lifeless body. I look away stepping around his body so I could leave the room. I go out the back door so I wouldn't see my parents dead bodies. When I get outside I run. Crunching the grass under my feet. Just a couple yards away from the house I hear someone behind me. I don't chance a glance back. I just run even faster. I run into a nearby woods that was behind our house. The same woods me and Jay would play in. I knew these woods better than anyone else. But the loud crutching behind me begin to inch closer. I  try to lose the stranger by doing quick turns. But I could never lose him. I did another quick turn but I tumbled I tried to keep my balance but I fell. I fell onto sticks and rocks. Blood scraped my hands and knees then he was behind me. I turn to look at the stranger that was here to end my life. He towers over me. His olive skin glowed in the moonlight. His messy hair sat atop his head. He grins at me. I inched away from him. Then I saw his eyes. They were red. Then my air circulation cut off. I grabbed my neck. My eyes stayed on him. Then his grin turns to an evil smile. I close my eyes and accept the fate that was attended for me.
