Prologue - THEN

Faith     Have you ever look at someone so beautiful and instantly been blinded by them? Like they are the sun and you have made the epic mistake of looking directly at it without shielding your eyes? That was what it was like when I first saw them but instead of just one sun, I was blinded by seven balls of glorious fire. Never in my life had I seen such a posse of perfect looking men. I mean every school had them right? The good looking ones? The gods that run the place and left everyone else in their shadows? Yet for some reason, I had thought I had left that all behind me. I had assumed getting into the prestigious Nine Oaks university would mean I left the never-ending popularity contest that had plagued me through school behind me. I had thought I was free to finally just be me. Yet... I couldn’t help it my eyes followed their progress across the green, the way they moved as if they were one entity. “I wouldn’t even bother” My roommate's voice had cut through the day dream like a knife and I came back to reality with a bump. “They don’t even look at girls like us” Of course, they didn’t, and that was fine. I hadn’t wanted the attention of guys like that, the kind of boys who had made my life a living hell for years. I was here to study, to escape. Not to fantasize what it would be like to be with a man who women and girls of all ages fawned over.   Yet even as I had told myself that, one had turned. His dark hair a startling contrast to his pale face and for just a moment our eyes locked. Something had crackled. His black eyes, that’s the colour they had seemed from where I had been sat narrowed down like they were portals to hell itself.  His eyes swept over me and then he sneered. It was a cruel curl of his pouty mouth as if my very existence offended him. And maybe it did. It didn’t stop them from changing my whole world though. That was the first time I ever laid eyes on the group of young men who ruled over Nine Oaks. Little did I know then that they would literally drag me through hell. And I mean literally.
