Chapter one

1170 Words
I entered the room, closed the door and immediately pulled off the hated mask from my face. The mask in my hand curled into a ring and was automatically put on my finger. The gaze from the hand moved to the floor. Patricia lay there. I ran to my roommate. Her pupils rolled under her eyelids and now the whites of her eyes were looking at me. Pattie became pale, almost white, with a blue tinge. A frightening sight for people who have never seen seizures from unlicensed programs. And this is the ninth time in a month. Seizure usually lasts not for long, ten minutes from strength. All I have to do is wait for  Patricia to come to her senses. She wakes up, removes the virus program from her system, and as usual she says that this will not happen again. I do not know how many times I have to warn her. How many times have to beg Pattie stop scoff at your system and your health. She does not hear me. Ten minutes passed. Twenty minutes. It is not known how long she lay there before my return. Pattie does not move. I sat next to her, felt her pulse. Hardly probes. Breathing is heavy, rare.  I close my eyes. "In system". I am in my room, absolutely identical to the one in which I was just now. Two beds, mine and Patricia, two writing desks, a large window dividing our room in half, and a common wardrobe by the front door. The only difference is that everything in the virtual room is completely new. The sun poured into the room, filling the space with warmth. "The emergency department," I thought, and at that very second I was in the hospital. One virtual hospital for the whole Groome Town. The nurse behind the counter flips through the pages on the tablet. "Hello. Urgent need a doctor on Trestoun Street, a campus, room 117b." "What's your name?" the girl said listlessly without looking up from the tablet. A miniature holographic window appeared in front of me in the air. The conversation was recorded. "Danna Voorts." "What is the problem?" the nurse said calmly, still not looking up at me. "A friend has a seizure because of an unlicensed program," I was nervous, and the nurse's calmness was slightly annoying. "How long has she been out?" "More than 20 minutes." "Her name and date of birth." "Patricia Kayem. April 26, 2134." Before the nurse appeared a list of names, the names hovered in the air like small clouds. One cloud turned out to be my friend’s name. The girl immediately phoned with someone. “Tom, again you are unlicensed. No. 25764890324. ” I stand in anticipation of an answer that the problem has already been resolved. "What is there? Has her network disappeared? Something new," the nurse's eyes widen with surprise. "A doctor will come to you," she said to me, starting a conversation with the ambulance. "Thank you!" Second, I find myself in my virtual room. "Exit". I open my eyes. Pattie still lay on the floor, and her look did not change at all. Ten minutes later there was a knock at the door. I opened it in a trice. The doctor and two nurses came to the call. In the hands of one of the guys a stretcher. They are wearing special costumes for reality. Gray, with a blue tint, like metal. These clothes are safe in toxic rain, and doctors could come to call in any weather. They went into the room and immediately took off the oxygen masks. The masks curled up into thick gray rings. "The oxygen level in the room?" the doctor turned to me. "Fine. We buy oxygen on time." He nodded to me and went to Patricia. Doctor sat down next to her, measured her pulse, looked around her eyes and tried to look at her pupils. It turned out to be a difficult; her eyes went strongly under the upper eyelids. "Take her," said the doctor to the nurses, got up and went to the door. Then he looked at me with sympathy. "You will be informed of the location of Patricia Kayem." I nodded in return. The doctor came out first, re-putting on the mask. The guys also put on masks quickly, picked up my friend and carried her out of the room. I closed the door behind them and sat down on the bed. The window is covered with a green curtain, which closes me from the dirt of our world. What will happen to Pattie? Will she survive? I hope that they can save her. At the moment I have done my best and my neighbor is now in good hands.  For two days there is no news about my neighbor. I should have been informed about her whereabouts on the same day she was taken away, but for some reason the doctors are silent. The room is empty without her. Lying on the bed, I first looked at my friend's bed, then our green curtains, trying to guess the beginning of dawn. Then I wanted to get a tablet and read something, but I didn't have enough strength. I came back an hour ago from the bar where I work as a waitress. Not my favorite job, but without work we will not survive. We are fed by the university where  Patricia and I study, but we have to buy oxygen.  I miss her. This small and fragile girl was always the first in everything. I think I miss even Pattie's grumpiness. Patricia entered the Faculty of Programming and Architecture, as she wanted. The first unlicensed programs that led Party to seizures were not chosen by chance. Patricia very much wanted to find out their essence and look at the code. As it turned out later, nothing came of this, since the data was erased instantly, after its awakening.  She found the last program on the black market in the V-world, and was terribly happy with the find. She said that this is a special program, such they have not met before. I did not know what exactly was in the program, and my friend did not dedicate it to me. Before the introduction of the program in a virtual, she said that now she will understand exactly, the steps of the pirates and their code.  I looked at my friend's bed again. A piece of paper peeped out from under the pillow, which for some reason I had not noticed before. I got out of bed and walked closer to my friend's bed. I didn't want to take her things without permission, but curiosity overcame me. I took out the paper. Half business card. There is only the letter D on it, and the name of the street starting with Mag... As far as I remember, we have two streets starting with such a combination of letters. It might be worth checking out. Suddenly there will be someone who will tell me what is happening with my friend. I closed my eyes. I urgently need a distraction. "In system".
