Betrothed from Birth

Chapter 1

Myra's POV

I am so happy today. I got good grades in school and was very excited to tell my parents. I was rushing to my home eager to tell my parents about the good news. I noticed, from distance, that my house was sparkling with decorations. I went inside and asked my mom what was going on.

She said, "Go get ready Myra, some guests are coming over to our house and wear your best clothes".

That was weird because she never asks me to wear my best clothes when someone comes over to our house. I chose to wear my Langa and a gold color blouse.

I went down the stairs and saw my father. I ran towards him and gave him a big hug. I told him that I got good grades and he congratulated me. He and I are very close. I share most of my secrets to him.

My father said that I looked pretty and I gave him a huge smile.

"Daddy, who is coming to our house today?" I asked him.

He looked troubled. Just then my mother came from the kitchen. My parents looked at each other giving worried and happy glances. My parents said that they needed to talk to me about something and took me to their room. I sat down on their bed and looked at them.

"Myra, we have something important to tell you," my mom said looking at me and my dad at the same time.

I was starting to get worried.

"Since the day you were born, you were engaged and they are coming today to set a date for you to get married," said my dad.

I was shocked.

I started crying, " mommy...... daddy..... I am still very young... I ... don't ... want to get mar..ried right now, I want to finish ..... college... and work....".

"I know baby," said my mom looking sad, "but you have to get married or they will make our lives difficult".

“Why?” I cried.

“Because when you were young, our company went into bankruptcy. At that time, the Arya family came to our aid but in return, we had to marry you off to their son when you come to the age of marriage” mom said.

I had tears in my eyes. I don't want to get married at a young age. I want to soar in the sky and then get married but not before that. I turned to my dad, he looked at me with a sorrowful expression on his face.

“At that time we really needed the money and didn't really think about the future. Now, I wish we thought about it before accepting the deal” my dad said tears glistering in his eyes.

I slowly said that I will marry this guy as I couldn't bear to see my dad in tears. I respect my parents so I will do as they say to make them happy. I just really hoped that my new family would let me study and help me achieve my career dreams. 

After a while, they asked me if I wanted to know the guy's name or not and I said no cause the only thing mattered to me was that my parents liked him.

Soon, I heard the bell ring indicating that the groom's family is here. My parents went to greet the family and I quickly went into my parents room and stayed there until my mom called me.
