Prologue

554 Words
Thea stood at the edge of the cliff, helpless, hopeless, and lonely… trying to understand what crimes she may have committed that have brought her to this point, where taking her life seemed more welcoming and easier than living it. Once, she had been an optimistic girl, full of life, basking in her parent’s love, shielded from the harsh realities of life. But then she made the ghastliest mistake of her life by falling in love with the wrong man, who mercilessly took away everything she held dear, leaving her scared and frightened. Her adoring parents had abandoned her; her warm home, her haven, where she had lived and laughed and grown-up, making happy memories, no longer welcomed her. Faithful friends vanished as if they had never existed in her life. She had no job, no money, and, worst of all, no hope and no one who could restore that lost hope in her life. Liam had kept his word, making her life a living hell, making her feel unwanted and unloved, all alone in the world. She gave Liam everything she was... everything she had, but he… he took it all and crushed her like a bug, crushed her spirit, and left her bleeding and broken with the heavy burden of guilt on her shoulders. He had cornered her like a ruthless hunter, closing all her avenues of escape... and was standing on the sidelines... waiting to witness a great show at her expense. She was not a coward and did not believe in giving up. She would have fought fiercely till her last breath, but this guilt, this loneliness, this anguish were weighing her down, making it difficult for her to live, let alone fight. She felt as if she would break apart any minute now, but she would not give him the satisfaction of seeing her like this, at her lowest. She may be his prey, but she would not let him see her squirm like a fish, desperately trying to escape his clasp… She would end her life but would neither show him her pathetic helplessness nor would she piteously beg him for her freedom. Her unbearable pain and misery would be over with her death. So here she stood… ready to embrace her death, her only salvation... There was a small part of her, a faint voice within her, that wanted to go on living… to emerge victoriously and ruthlessly destroy those who had cruelly deceived her and brought her to this point of no return, but she suppressed that voice, unwilling to fight any longer. Finally, she jumped from the cliff, falling towards her tragic end while the last couple of months of her life replayed in front of her… The day she met Liam for the first time… their constant bickering, his possessiveness… their first kiss… his promise ring… asking her parents for her hand in marriage and finally the ugly scene at his office. As she neared the bottom of the cliff, she said her last prays… if there is a God, then listen to my plea. I have never intentionally hurt anyone in my life… nor have I ever wished terribly upon anyone, but today, as I take my last few breaths, I ask you to hold accountable those who are responsible for my plight.
