Battle of Riveredge

I crept slowly through the trees, several men and woman following behind me. We are in area that is frequently looked after by the enemy. Miranda has ordered several of us to check the area out. I had argued that it wouldn't be wise, but apparently she still holds a grudge against me. I have also noticed how my friends follow her every order.      "Halt!" I ordered softly. Two of the guards walked by us, seeming to not really care about what was going on around them. I nodded my head to two of the soldiers, silently telling them to take them out. They returned the nod and crept up behind the guards. I cringed when I heard the both of them break the necks of the two men. "Everyone move forward, but slowly. We don't want to be caught."      We moved past the now dead men and made our way towards the small village, that no longer holds live villagers. I listened to the sound of children crying out. They must be forcing them to train to be in the war. I swear those children will be taken to safety if it is the last thing I do.     "What is our next move?" Tarrant asked.     "I want to circle the village. Attack from every side. I just know this isn't going to go well. I just wish your sister would listen to me for once!" I hissed out. Tarrant patted my shoulder in symphony. "Tell the others what I told you." Tarrant nodded and went to pass on the word.         It took ten minutes for all to get into their places. Tarrant is a few feet away from me, waiting for me to give the signal. "What are you waiting for?" One of the other soldiers hissed at me. "Now is a perfect time to attack!"     "Your training and my training are rather different, soldier." I hissed. He let out a low growl before charging into the village. "Damn that bloody bastard!" No sooner than the soldier running out to attack, the others followed. Tarrant and I quickly followed, both of us cursing the i***t.     I slashed my sword across one of the dark soldiers stomach. Blood gushed out, but something was off about the blood. It wasn't red, it was black. "Why the hell is their blood black?" I shared a look with Tarrant, who looked as confused as me.     "Let's kill these bastards!" Tarrant growled. I nodded and sent fire down my sword. "Wicked. Let's do this!"     It seemed like hours of us fighting and the leader of the dark soldiers has not shown up. I saw another one from my side fall. My side is taking a lot of the hits. I know this isn't going to end well for us. I myself have been injured at least a couple of times, but I am quickly healing due to my magic.     I threw my daggers at a nearing dark soldier, stopping him as he went to attack Tarrant. He began to smoke before suddenly turning into ashes. Tarrant turned to looked at me incredulously. "What can I say? I've been practicing. It has done me some good." My daggers flew back to me, going back into their places. "Come on. I'm pretty sure the leader of these troops are surrounded my those wolves. I'm going to burn those bastards."     "You concern me sometimes, you really do." Tarrant responded before following after me. The closer we got to the group of wolves, I noticed that they are a lot larger than the last few I have killed. "Oh s**t!" We paused in our running. "Got any plans?"     "Nope. I always wing it. You take the left and I take the right?" I asked.     "Yep." He replied.      I climbed onto one of the houses, jumping to the next one so I am able to jump onto the first wolfs back. My sword lit back up with the fire. I jumped onto the wolf and it began to buck wildly. I twisted the sword, making the wolf howl in pain. I pulled my sword out and went for the weak point on the wolfs neck. Blood gushed, splattering onto my face and getting into my mouth.      I shoved the sword further into the wolfs neck, sending more magic into the flames, the wolf began to slow in its movement. I grinned once the wolf stopped moving. I jumped off the wolf, but my movements were stopped when I heard slow clapping. I turned to see, who I assume is the leader. I narrowed my eyes at the man. "Very well done. No one has ever successfully killed a wolf that size before."     "And you are?" I inquired. He smirked.     "For give me, I am Lord Felix. My brother is King Cacus. He became king after my sister was murdered. Very unfortunate." He gave a mock bow.     "I thought I killed him." I muttered. Felix took a step forward. I quickly held my sword up, pausing him in his steps. "I'd be careful if I were you." He chuckled and pulled out his own sword.     "You should be the one that needs to be careful. You can't defeat me." He declared. I rolled my eyes.     "You people seem to really underestimate me. You get your kind killed very easily." I pointed out.     "My kind?" He questioned.     "Oh, you know, evil bastards and such. I don't care for your kind. You are trying to create a world where there is only darkness. You will be upsetting the balance of nature. You make Lady Magic angry."      "And how would you know if I make Lady Magic angry?" He snarled. I smirked.     "Because she has gifted me and I am going to kill you." I replied calmly. Anger flickered in his eyes before his face took one of pure evil. It didn't scare me though. I just smirked and my sword lit up once more. The fire is bigger and the heat coming off the blade is meant for kill. Fear flashed across his face for a moment before he lunged at me. I blocked his swing without any effort.     "I will kill you!" He hissed.     "Tell that to someone who cares." I responded. With a growl, he continued to lash out. "You know, your swings are quite weak. You should have practiced more. You are so careless, just like your dead sister." He froze. "Want to know how I know? I saw the life leave her eyes as I killed her. I made her breathe her last breath. I am your sisters killer. She too easily." With his anger, he became more sloppy.      I sliced him across the stomach. Felix doubled over in pain, so I took a dagger and stabbed him in the back, giving it a twist. Blood poured out of the wound like a waterfall. I ripped the dagger out, while pushing Felix to the ground. "What do you think your brother will do when he find his brother is dead?" I questioned. I rolled Felix onto his back. Fear raced through his eyes as he gasped for breath. "I am merciful. I give people chances, but filth like you don't deserve to live. Who am I too judge though. We are simply the pieces to a game of chess. You could have been a good man. Make a difference in this world. You chose an evil path though. This is your punishment and I hate doing this. Say hello to the Devil for me." My sword sliced through his chest, cutting through his heart. The burning hatred left his eyes and got replaced with a blank look as he took his last breath. "I'm sure you'll be good friends."     I entered the throne room, after making sure the soldiers and Tarrant went to the healing ward. I am wounded, but my magic from the phoenix is healing the wounds pretty quickly. I could care less about myself. I am pissed and have every right to be. "MIRANDA!" I shouted in anger. She froze and looked up. Disgust filled her eyes, probably because I am covered in blood.      "What happened? What is the report?" Jenna demanded. I glared at her and she returned it.      "Just because you are married to the queen and one of her generals, does not mean I answer to you! I answer to myself and only myself!" I hissed at her. I pushed her out of my way and stormed over to Miranda. The young woman she was talking to backed away before running out of the room. I took out my dagger and pushed Miranda up against the wall by her throat. She gasped and cried out in fear.     "Unhand her!" Jenna shouted. I ignored her though.     "Do you have any idea what you did?" I growled dangerously. "I took two hundred men and women with me like you ordered me to. I should have gone with my gut and refuse. Do you know how many I have come back with? No? Thirty! Twenty-five men and five woman, not counting myself, made it back alive." I tightened my hold on her neck while putting my dagger away. "You sent your youngest brother with me, who almost died, might I add. From this moment on, you will not order any battles or soldiers to go out. You are not leading this war, I am! No more lives will be risked because you are foolish and refuse to listen to reason! I will accept no arguments, because in the end, you know I am right." I let her go, leaving her to gasp for air.     I turned to my friends, or ex-friends. At this rate, I don't even know them anymore. "You will start your training to connect with your phoenix's next week. I don't care if you don't like it. You will do as I say or you will die in this war." With that being said, I walked out to be with my husbands and twin boys.
