It was large, it was lethal and it was out for some blood. She shivered not because of the cold but out of immense fear. Its eyes were blood red. Did normal animals have red eyes? Only beats from mythology did, they had red eyes and not only this but also had pointed teeth to tear ruthlessly through flesh or even metal. As if the beast... the animal in front of her read her mind, bared its teeth at her and she took a step back. A cry was building in her throat but she just trembled and didn't cry, couldn't cry. She was in awe. "Amber! Honey just stay where you are. Don't worry, dad will get you out of danger." Her mother shouted out panicking herself. She could hear the sobs of her distressed mother so she was not crying herself since that will weaken and worry her mother even more. "Mom, I am fine. I will just pet the kitty." She said not sure that was the right thing to do. An Eight-year-old girl had walked out in hot summer day just to have some fun. Just when she saw a rather large cat of glistening black fur, she immediately walked up to the cat with an intention to play with it but the cat had other intentions, it snarled and backed up when the girl closed in. "Amber, get down dear." Her father was now standing with a gun in his hand. He was going to shot the beast with red eyes, blood red eyes. Yes, Amber was scared but she didn't want her father to hurt the animal in front of her. She had no idea why but her little body stood as a shield between the animal and her father. "Amber, GET DOWN!" Her father yelled angrily and desperately. She shook her small head in a vigorous no, her wine red pigtails shaking along. The animal growled at her and looked at her with hate-filled eyes but it was backing up now. The red eyes now gone replaced with an amber one. Amber cautiously bend down to her knees and stretched a hand forward just wanting to do what she intended to do in first place, touch the animal. "AMBER! Stay away dear, it 's not a cat, it's a Panther." Her mother yelled out, her voice still thick with fear. Panther, yes, she had read in school, also called mountain lion. It was known for its amazing leaping power, strength and grace. But it was a rare shade of black, she always thought she would prefer the golden brown kind but now she decided that the black was better. Another shiver made her tremble as her hand touched the glabella of the cat. Now her parents were quiet but the panther snapped its teeth violently as she touched it. Her heart was thudding in her chest while she continued the caressing now advancing the touch to its head. The violent growl shifted to lazy growl and soft mewing. "See dad, Panther likes me." She finally said, her voice still trembling. As if her voice broke the peace, Panther leaped making her fall down. It didn't hurt her, not even a scratch but as it ran away Amber heard a gunshot, she heard panther yelp in pain letting out a sky-shattering rumble. "DAD, no!" Amber shouted out hopelessly. But the beast didn't succumb to pain instead it ran and melted into the darkness of night. Amber lost all the energy in her little legs and her knees hit the ground. Two warm arms embraced her and she sobbed burying her head in them, her mother sobbing with her. Surprisingly, she was not sad because she encountered a carnivorous animal but because it was hurt by of her father. Her hand with which she touched the animal went to her nose, to get some kind of scent as memory. It smelled wonderful like of rosewater and cookies, of summer breeze and jasmine, like freshly brewed coffee. She didn't let her mother know that or her father, she just enjoyed the best smell in the world as her fear dissolved like the panther did in the night.
