Chapter One

1142 Words
2010- New York City As she sat across the table facing the young man, Ella felt totally out of place. He looked so young ,boyhood filled his face, as if he had just finished high school. He looked like one of those young actors from the high school teenage movies,he surely reminded her of Freddy Prinze Jr in 'She's all that' . It wasn't like she was that old, she had just turned thirty two weeks ago. But this date should never had taken place, already people in the restaurant were staring and whispering .  Gosh they are probably thinking that  I am one  of those cougars after the vulnerable and  young men, Ella said to herself as she closed her hands around her cup of double mocha. She had no one else  but her best friend Helena to thank for the situation she found herself in today. Her best friend had told her the person who sent the message on the dating site was a young engineer in his early thirties, but the person in front of her barely looked twenty! The young man whom she cannot even remembered his name looked at her and  gave her one of those boyish smile. ' You are a very attractive woman..exactly what I'm looking for !', he said taking her by surprise that she nearly dropped her cup. ' How old are you?', Ella asked and then she realized maybe she shouldn't have asked that question with such a harsh tone ,but she  just couldn't help it. 'You don't have to worry about that ,I like older woman,I  find them more passionate ,sexier and they really know how to please a young man as myself', was his answer in a husky whispering tone and she quickly took a sip of the double mocha so that she could swallow the lump that had suddenly been formed in her throat. Ella quickly called the waiter over ,paid for her drink and left the young man sitting all alone at the table. She had never been this embarrassed in her life before, she walked straight out without giving her supposedly date a last glance. As she stepped outside she took in a deep breath, she smiled as the smell of earthy fragrance filled her nostrils.Spring, the fresh scents of flowers ,leafy green, mowed grass and a picturesque of blossom trees along the roads. To most people blossoms symbolizes new beginnings, but for Ella she surely couldn't see any signs of new beginnings. After two years, she was still single regardless of the countless dates she had been on.After her boyfriend of over five years suddenly decided to walk out of her life , her friends especially her best friend Helena had set her up on so many blind dates. She even secretly signed her up on one of those dating sites and Ella had only found out when one of her cousin had told her that one of her colleague saw her photo on an online dating site. She didn't want to look that desperate and had asked Helena to remove her photo from that site  and apparently that was the only thing her best friend did. ' Helena ... you set me up with a teenager! ..That boy was barely twenty years old.. He must have lied..anyways no more dates for me and I really mean it! If my prince charming is out there ,he will find me. Ill see you tomorrow morning before I leave for L.A on Thursday..my last shift is tonight and then cheers to a  most deserving holiday!' Ella said to her friend over the phone as she sat in the driver's seat of her small car. She checked the time and realized she had enough time to stop at the bakery ,grabbed some fresh pastries then head back home to rest a bit before her night shift. As the thought of her last day of work crossed her mind ,Ella smiled. She had been looking forward to seeing her parents in L.A ,especially to help her mother in her flower shop .For her that wasn't extra work, it was a pleasure for her to help her mother put together the beautiful flower arrangements to cover every day  human dramas, from the ones who forgot their wedding anniversary, to birthday surprises or even a single rose to brighten up someone's day. Ella worked as a nurse and would work mostly night shifts.Everyone in her family were surprised when she had told them about her choice of career and no one could change her mind, she loved to help and take care of other people and she was ready to dedicate her whole life to do just that. Some of her friends had totally understood her and supported her decision. They said her  job was compatible with  her characteristics as a Taurus, which meant she is  suppose to be someone  dependable, practical, patient and supportive. Those friends ,their everyday life was based on the horoscopes. They will make sure they grab the newspaper every single day  to read about their daily horoscope and would even text her hers.  Ella never believed that planets ,moons and stars signs could decide anyone's destiny or fate. There was no world out there ruled by the Leos and its rings of fires and the sun, or a world full of  beautiful Virgos waiting to shower the world with kindness and sophistication. Zodiac signs meant absolutely nothing to her.The one person she was more surprised who believed in the Zodiacs was her father. She remembered walking in his study in their home in L.A and noticed the drawing of a well detailed Zodiac constellation map  which covered the entire ceiling. 'What is that?', she had  asked her father  and he only answered saying that its just a beautiful piece of art but Ella didn't buy that, she knew her father too well. If he paid for something like that to be painted on his ceiling then it must mean something dearly to him, but she was never one to question her parents decisions, so she pretended she was satisfied with his answer. And now ..Taurus ,tomorrow your life could change unexpectedly.. you just have to follow your planet where ever it will take you. Love could be right in front of you or in your past..the planets are radiating an energy that draws people together even the worst enemies..so  this is the chance to.... Ella didn't wait for the announcer to finish ,she switched off the radio and laughed softly. 'I wonder how people can listen to those things and put their entire belief in it.. my life would change unexpectedly..love from the past ,if you are trying to tell me Harold would walk back in my life then no thank you!', Ella softly said as she took the right turn and drove into her driveway.
