The girls sat with their backs to each other and their hands tied uncomfortably behind their backs. The hard cement floor was cold underneath them and their legs were cramping from sitting all huddled up against each other. Although the bad-smelling rags covered their eyes, they still knew it is a confined and damp room they were kept in. The eerie cement and soil smell lingered in the air. The dampness left their clothes clinging to them. It was mostly quiet around them since they had awoken two days ago, hungry and heavily drugged. Struggling against their ropes proved to be useless as they now had cuts and deep bruises on their wrists. The two of them were tied together tightly and the knots were made by someone with experience. Each movement caused pain as the ropes ate into their skin. They are so confused about what is happening and why. Nothing makes sense. Why them? Where are they? Most of all, what do they want? Soraya squirmed when the door opened slowly with a long creak. Between her and her sister, she was the one that was easily frightened, she was terrible at hiding her fear. She instantly started to shake as the dark figure entered the room with one step to stand beside them. The coldness and evil radiated from the figure in great waves, making the tears instantly start to dampen the rags over Soraya's face. She felt terrified. She struggled to keep her mouth shut and not make a whimper. "Good morning girls," the man said in a deep husky voice, the joy could be heard in his voice. "I hope you slept well under the circumstances," he said with a hint of sarcasm in his voice. His chuckle was cold and sadistic. He bent down and reached with his hand to Soraya and touched her dirty blonde hair that was flowing over her shoulder. She instantly jerked at his touch and if not tied to her sister she would have fallen over. He gave a little chuckle at her discomfort and got up. His touch makes her insides churn. "You need to get used to your environment, you will be here forever," he said with malice before he turned around and walked out the door with a whistle. The door slammed shut with a bang that frightened both girls, making them jump where they sat. "I want to go home!" Soraya moans loudly as she starts to sob, "I want mom and dad!" She is riddled with fear of the unknown. Their parents have always been their protectors since the day they were born. Something that proved to be extremely hard as the girls grew up and their abilities became stronger. Nonetheless, they had never failed till now and the girls always felt safe. "Well, mom and dad are no longer here to protect us," Alexa said with clear annoyance. She turned her face to the side to hide her tears although she was fully aware her sister could see her. She hated crying, it made her feel weak and powerless. There was no point in crying over something she could not change. When she cried, it was out of anger, and at this point, she did not know whether she was furious or saddened about what happened. "You need to stop crying and help me so that we can get out of here. No one is coming to save us, we have to save ourselves. Stop crying Soraya, it is no good!" Her sister's weak character always irritated her. She was quick to cry, always got injured easily and, in most cases, was extremely squeamish. Their mother always said to Alexa she was stronger for a reason and needed to protect her sister. She hated it because it was always the case and Soraya had a knack for getting them in trouble. Soraya is a naive and curious young girl and easily manipulated. She was the one who led the intruder to their home and look at them now. Alexa cringes at the thought. She hated her sister for this. No, she loathed her. Thoughts were already running through her head about how she was going to ditch her the first opportunity she got, but she couldn't. She promised her mother. In the end, she is her sister. What type of person would she be if she ditched her sister at the first opportunity that she got? She may hate her now, but she knows herself now. She will feel sorry for her and stick with her regardless. It infuriates her so much. "We are not going to get anywhere if you do not help me." Alexa's patience was growing thin with her sister. It was two days since they had awoken, groggy and confused. She had reached her wit's end because of her sister's constant whining and sobbing. The last thing she remembers was being grabbed and gagged from behind as she watched in horror as a man in an expensive silver and grey suit slit their mother's throat with a smirk on his face. The bastard did not even flinch. He just slid her throat as if it was nothing and brought him joy. Their mother was already beaten half to death. Tears streamed down her face as she recalled the last horrific look on her mother's face. She was such a graceful woman, such a fierce warrior, a loving mother, and a beautiful woman overall. "Soraya, listen to me! We need to stand up together and then try to get these rags off our eyes. You need to help me!" she said with desperation. "I cannot do this without you." She needed Soraya to be focused. She needed her, she cannot get out of here alone. Soraya nodded in agreement, then realizing that her sister couldn't see her, "okay," and started to push her back against her sister to get some leverage to get up off the floor. She hasn't been compliant with any of her sister's requests since they awoke. She still struggles to deal with the reality of everything. The trauma of what they saw was just too unbearable. She has never been able to cope with violence and this frustrated their father. "Soraya! You need to be vigilant and you need to show no mercy! No one will show you mercy! Do not trust people around you." Her father's words still echo in her mind. This is all her fault. How could she be so naïve? She led that man straight to them without even giving them a second thought. How could she do that? This is all her fault. She does not even feel worthy of being saved. She can rot in this cell, but her sister deserves better. "Okay, let us move till we feel a wall. We will need to feel around for things until we can find something to get the ropes off our wrists, " Alexa explains as they start getting up from the floor with one accord. They finally get up onto their feet and start to move slowly step-by-step with their tied ankles till they feel the post of a bed. "Let's sit down on the bed and feel for something sharp to get these ropes off," Alexa commands. Something did not feel right. ~~ He walks in with even confident strides as he always does. "My queen," he says as she slowly turns towards him from where she was standing on the balcony, "they are still struggling." She glances at him quickly with a hint of disgust in her eyes. "Do you think they will figure it out?" She is unhappy with her question. "My queen, they are still heavily drugged, starved, and dehydrated. The drugs take 72 hours to work out of their system and we are only on day three. Give them time." She hoped that they were what she hoped for. It has almost been sixteen years and they are now coming of age. It is time for them to fulfill their purpose. They had to pass the test or all this bloodshed and endless searching would have been for nothing. "Notify me at once if there is any change." He nods and heads out the way he came in. She looks at his broad stance as he walks away. The only man she trusts. His loyalty was undeniable. His thirst for blood matches her thirst for power. The things she would do to keep her power in the kingdom. There is no price she won't pay or hasn't paid already. ~~ "The bed has no mattress on and it feels as if multiple sharp points are sticking out of it. The least they could do was leave us with something that resembles a bed " Soraya says as she is trying to feel with her foot on the bed. "I think if we lower ourselves carefully onto the bed we can cut the ropes off." The girls instinctively lowered themselves carefully on the bed. The sharp edges pierced the skin on their buttocks and Soraya gave a little whimper at the pain. Their hands quickly searched the bed for a sharp edge to start cutting the rope. It wasn't long before their hands were free. Alexa grabbed at the rag tied over her eyes, desperate to study her environment. "Oh... My..." Alexa says, stunned at her surroundings. It is not the small dungeon-like room that they originally thought of. Instead, it is a small room with dark stone walls and scenery like no other. The one wall was completely made of dark glass looking out over a forest that looked like it came from a fairytale. Yet something very mysterious and dark emanates from it. The forest looked damp and misty with very little sunlight piercing through the clouds. It was like it was hiding a deep dark secret from the light that it would protect with its very existence. It is beautiful and colorful at the same time. "This is like nothing I have ever seen," Alexa expressed, "I do not think we are anywhere near home." Soraya stood next to her speechless. "We need to find a way out!" Alexa said as she headed for the door. There was no time for sightseeing, they needed to get out of this place before that man returned. She does not want to be around to find out what he has in mind for them. The door is surprisingly open. Something is not right. Alexa glances back at her sister with confusion written all over her face. This is the only way out. They need to go out this way. The girls slowly made their way down the narrow stone corridor until it led into an open part that seemed to be on a wall. Alexa motions for her sister that they need to climb down the wall to their freedom. Soraya nods and climbs down the wall first. It was quite a distance from the ground and one misstep could cost them their lives, but it was a chance they had to take. This daunting escape still haunted them and should they stay, they would be met with far worse consequences. Alexa quickly follows her sister down the wall. They jump the last piece off to the next corridor and check if someone hears them. When they approached the door, it was unlocked and there were no guards in the hallway. It was suspicious, to say the least, and something told them that whoever took them, wanted them to escape. Alexa already felt panicky, she just hoped it would not be some kind of sick hunting game. At this point,, nothing feels impossible with everything they have had to endure so far. Alexa instinctively told her sister to be vigilant and make sure they were not followed, as whoever was behind this had other plans for them. This was way too easy. Soraya was standing hunched forward trying to catch her breath. "Come, we need to go!" Alexa checks both ways and walks to a window. It is small but they will fit through and, judging by the trees, they should be on the second story. Her racing heart already feels a bit of relief. She can feel the excitement of being so close to freedom and the nervousness of not knowing what might happen next. She closes her eyes and makes a hasty prayer that they will be safe and not get caught. The girls scramble through the window and slowly climb down the stone wall. It did not help that Soraya was weaker than her sister and was lacking upper body strength. She was the brains, not the brawn. She struggled down the wall and her fear of heights made it increasingly difficult to get her to move at certain points. The fear of the men who took them was all that made her go. She did not want to die as brutally as her parents. “I made it!” Soraya exclaimed with relief as soon as her feet hit the soil. “Keep quiet! We do not know who is out there to get us and we do not know who they are.” Alexa pinches the bridge of her nose as she says these words to her sister. Soraya rolls her eyes at her sister’s annoyance. The only thing they are good at is bickering, that is for sure. The girls dart towards the forest to get out of plain sight of the palace-like building, looking like it had escaped the medieval period. Alexa takes a glance back, she stops immediately in her tracks and grabs her sister by her arm. "Look!" She points to the words written on the stone wall. WIC. "What does that mean?" "I do not know and I also do not want to find out. Let's go!" Soraya drags her sister behind her into the forest.
