Morpheus POV Strolling into school first thing in the morning I heard so many happy birthdays from people I haven't even spoken to a day in my life. I smiled knowing today might be the day. The day I'm supposed to find my mate. It’s a rare thing to find your mate so soon but I have hope. My wolf had a good feeling so maybe just maybe. "Happy Birthday babe" Jesse, my ex-girlfriend came up to me attempting to kiss me but I moved away and she kissed my cheek instead I could see the hurt in her eyes but she covered it up with a smile pulling me into a hug anyway. I sighed wrapping my arm around her waist and hugging her back only because she's one of my best friends also my third in command. She fell for me and I gave her a chance but the relationship was just awkward so we called it off. She still has feelings for me though. She's dreaded this day since we got together and broke up. Just then the most wonderful scent filled my nose. It was a mixture of vanilla and peppermint and it had me taking a deep breath in, letting out a satisfied sigh. It had a wave running through my body and my heart skipping a beat. A girl passed by us. I had seen her around school a few times. She wore a black hoodie, with ripped jeans and she looked up from behind her hood, her intense grey eyes locked with mine and the world seemed to slow down and zone into her. Suddenly everything else had blurred out and it only she, walking amongst a crowd of blurred bodies. She sent me a small smile, continuing to walk down the hall, the scent slowly disappearing. "Mate" I whispered dreamily as everything slowly fazed in again as she blended with the crowd and Jesse pulled away from me, a huge smile on her face. "I'm your mate! I knew it!" she squealed jumping up and down trying to kiss me again but I shook my head, pushing her out of the way gently. I pushed through everyone in my path, not really caring about anything but that black hood in the crowd and that scent that was filling my nose. She led me to the cafeteria. She was sitting at a table in the corner of the room with a group of people I’d seen around the halls, with her hood down, laughing with her head leant on some guy’s shoulder and I couldn’t control the growl that ripped from my throat; causing everyone’s eyes, including hers to snap in my direction. "Hey Morpheus. Happy Birthday" one of the girl at the table spoke and I nodded in acknowledgement but my eyes were still zeroed in on the guy who she was leaning on, who was completely oblivious to the death stare I was give him. Was that her boyfriend? "Amethyst" the same girl side eyed my mate and I cracked a smile. So that’s her name? Amethyst, it sounded in my mind like a broken record. Theseus was yipping around my head, happily. This really was our mate. The person, we’ve been waiting for all our lives. "Happy Birthday Morpheus" her voice was soft and timid but I heard perfectly clear. Her voice was smooth, velvety, calming. "Thank you Amethyst" her name rolled off my tongue like that’s exactly where it was meant to be and a wide smile spread on my face as her eyes widened and the tip of her nose turned bright red. "Oh look who’s blushing? How cute" the guy cooed at Amethyst and I clenched my fist. So that’s her boyfriend then… “Roman stop teasing our daughter before I shove my foot up your ass” or not. “Thanks for the birthday wishes. Uh, it was nice meeting you guys” I sent the group a smile, more so my mate before turning around and shoving my hands in my pockets and sauntering out of the cafeteria. I’d found my mate and she was beautiful. She had dark curly hair that cascaded down her shoulder and a pair of intense silver grey eyes, her pouted pink lips and long lashes that touched her cheek every time she blinked. She was around 5’6 and had one of the most beautiful smiles I’ve ever seen. The bell rang for seventh period and I huffed. I’d been zoned out of most of my classes. I couldn’t get her out of my head and I wasn’t seeing her in any of my classes. That is until I walked into Spanish class. She was seated at the very front of the class, twirling a pencil in-between her finger, looking stressed out. She ran her finger through her hair, biting at her bottom lip. My friends at the back of the class motioned for me to come over at sit in my usual seat in the back corner of the class but I shook my head no, strolling over and taking a seat next to my mate. She eyed me up and down. Looking around the class to see if this was right I suppose. “How come you’re sitting here today? You usually sit in the back with the popular kids” she side eyed me and I shrugged, looking over the features on her face, noticing the little freckles and moles that adorned her skin. "I decided to sit here today" I took out my books, dropping my back to the floor and she scowled, putting her hood up and resting her head on her fists, not looking at me again. I raised an eyebrow at her. What did I do? I growled. Theseus was tramping around my head, fighting me for control, demanding that I take my mate in my arms and show her that she was mine but I kept him at bay. I could feel my eyes flashing from blue to black every few seconds and my claws protracting. I dug my nails into the desk, turning away from her so she couldn’t see. She definitely didn’t need to find out about me now, especially since I haven’t explained to her. She’s human and I doubt she’s ready. "Hey are you good?" she scooted her stool closer to me so she could whisper in my ear and it didn’t help my situation. Her breathe fanned my neck and I tensed up when I felt her small hand on my shoulder rubbing my back. Theseus immediately relaxed, his angry aura completely disappeared. "I'm fine" I rasped out, trying my best to hide the fact that it did hurt thinking that my mate might actually not like me. It shouldn’t because she doesn’t know about mates in the first place and everyone has their own opinions but it did. There was a pain in my chest, probably from the rejection of the mate bond and I whimpered, hearing Amethyst sigh. I closed my eyes, holding my chest as the pain intensified. "Ms Gonzalez Morpheus isn’t well can I take him to the nurse please" my eyes snapped open seeing Amethyst was gathering her things, shoving them in her bag and eyeing me worriedly. She grabbed my hand, pulling me out of the classroom, glancing behind her every now and then to see if I was okay. Everyone in the hallway cleared a path for us pointing and whispering but all I could focus on was her hand in mine. My heart was hammering in my chest at the sparks shooting up and down my entire arm. Once we reached the nurses office Amethyst shoved me inside, coming in behind me and slamming the door shut. She let out shallow breathes and I noticed the tears that were brimmed in her eyes and how her hands were shaking. While the nurse checked me up I stared at her with so many questions in my mind. "Are you okay?” she jumped at the sound of my voice but nodded her head yes. “I have social anxiety, attention and people looking at me makes me terrified and what just happened was a bit much but I’ll be alright” she reassured me. “Oh okay…” there was an awkward silence in the room as the nurse disappeared behind a door and I asked the next question that was swirling around my head. “Do you have a problem me? Do you not like me or something?” she seemed taken aback by my questioned. "I don’t have a problem with you and I can’t base if I like you or not on rumours but we’re from two different worlds and you get a lot of attention, which is something I’m not accustom nor do I like. When you’re around people pay attention to me and being in the spotlight is not my thing. Plus you have quite the reputation with girls and you’ve never noticed me until now which is just really weird for me is all” she shoved her hands in her hoodie pockets, her eyes locking with my own. “So if I were to ask you on a date, where it would just be you and I, no people, no attention, no spotlight, no labels. Would you say yes?” Amethyst POV I said yes. I couldn’t believe that I actually said yes. It was like my mouth had moved faster than my actual brain and now I was walking to the cafeteria in a complete daze. Did I just agree to go on a date with the school’s golden boy? Did the school’s golden boy just ask me on a date? “Did you hook up with Morpheus? Did you suck his d**k and give him the punnani?” Alexis, my crazy best friend bombarded me with questions the minute I settled in my seat and the table and I gave her a WTF face. Rumours do spread fast huh? “What the f**k?! No I did not! I took him to the nurse!” “But you thought about it didn’t you?!”
