My Alarm rings and I get the phone from my night stand sleepily and turn off the alarm I kneel down beside my small bed. I am, awake. I take the opportunity to give glory to God. Father in Glory, I call upon thy name this morning. Our father who art in heaven, Thank you dear father. I want to thank you for the wonderful moment that you have accorded me. Dear Lord I am grateful. I give you glory and honour. I glorify your name, and I pray father that you take away the principalities of diseases, Thoughts and works of the devil. Thank you lord that you gave me a peaceful sleep and now I am awake. I give you glory and honour Jehovah. I pray for a peaceful start of the day and one that will end well, even as I prepare to leave the house and head to my work place, I pray that you take care of me though out the day. In the mighty name of Jesus Christ I pray trusting and believing Amen I complete my prayer and d**g myself to the bathroom. I feel peaceful. It’s super-hot so I don’t need warm water. I brush my teeth real quick then take a quick cold shower. I feel really good as the cold water runs through my skin. I think about my job, I have such a bitchy boss. She’s this very proud lady who doesn’t stop for a minute to think that someone else could be in her shoes someday. Things change every time you know? My subconscious interrupts me from my reverie and I will have to agree with her on this. I go back to my thinking spree and I’m brought a back to how I found myself working in this big company, I roll my eyes and think about the saying which goes. If it’s meant to be, it’ll always be. I smile despite myself and quote the joke ‘’if you know you know’’ Four years ago, I was working in town Nairobi CBD in a photocopying bureau my boss was one of those sassy bossy a*s holes who feels as if they are at the end of the journey. He could order me around and say; ‘’you know I don’t care if you don’t want to do your work perfectly I will just fire you and employ someone else.’’ I did my best all the time but I realised this guy was insatiable and very voracious. I felt frustrated most of the time and could think why I had to go through this. I face palmed myself and say nothing is ever permanent. One day I woke up and headed for my small office which we used to share with some other guys who were selling wines and spirit. I met the ladies there and one of them told me something that caught my attention. Her name was Betty and she was very friendly. We were close, very close but Betty wasn’t her mum’s favourite ‘’Emali! Your boss was here yester evening after you had left.’’ ‘’Not new. isn’t he here every evening to check his records?’’ ‘’Yes but this time it was different.’’ ‘’How come?’’ ‘’Calm down Emali I’ll tell you how different and why. He was yelling and saying how you don’t know this work and that he’s going to fire you soon.’’ (Have you ever felt helpless? That was me at that particular moment). ‘’Mum had to tell him to his face that he’ll never find one very faithful and hardworking employee like you. ‘’Thank you for that Betty.’’ ‘’You don’t need to thank me, what are friends for? I know you would do the same for me if you heard mum say anything about me.’’ She says with a wink. ‘’I know right?’’ We high fived and just as she makes to move back to her desk, a man walks in and says hi. We both turned to look at him. The guy is short almost five point two inches. He looks handsome which I think is an understatement, He is smiling but I can’t tell why. Him; I said hi ladies, he says steadily and with smile still written all over his face. Then we both say hi in unison. Just then I hear someone knocking the bathroom door and I shake my head to come back to myself. ‘’Emali!’’ She’s calls in a very calm tone. It’s Nelly she is my roomie kind of. ‘’Yes Nesh, I will be out in a few.’’ ‘’Please do your phone is ringing senseless and it wouldn’t stop.’’ I hear her shout from the other end I ask who’s calling and she yells; ‘’your bitchy boss’’ ‘’so early?’’ I ask more of to myself and tell Nelly that I’ll pick the call when I get out. The phone is ringing again and I quickly wrap a towel around my lower body part and rush out of the bathroom. I quickly answer the call and I hear a shout from the other end. ‘’Can’t you pick your calls Emali?” I don’t respond because currently that’s what I am doing, answering her stupid call.
