(Your name = (Y/n) Last name = (L/n).) . . I like the sad eyes' bad guys' mouth full of white lies. . . . You were sitting alone in your house, it was raining outside. The thunder was so loud, it made this place even lonelier. You stared at the clock on the wall, waiting for midnight to come. The fireplace was the only thing that was meant to keep you warm, unfortunately, it didn't do a good job. Finally, the time has come. You lit up a match, put the flame to the candle for that little cupcake, you close your eyes. Wished something for yourself. Before you could continue, a knock on the door froze you for a couple of seconds, nobody ever came to visit before, not to (Y/n) (L/n). Never once. You slowly walked to the door, opened it up to see Jason, your little brother. "Jason?" You said, couldn't believe he really came, you haven't seen him for a couple of months. He seemed pale and exhausted than the last time you've met him, his face was covered up with bruises, you could tell he's been in a lot of trouble. "Sister." He said, you stared at those eyes, then smiled for the first time in these past weeks. "Thanks for coming." You told him, you let him inside, he was soaking wet. You close the door right after. "You actually remember my birthday." He turned to look at you, speechless. You looked at each other, and unfortunately, that smile has to fade away. "It's your birthday?" He asked. "Why are you here for, Jason?" You asked him back instead. He sat down on the chair, hands on his temples, maybe it was just an act, but he did it to show you he was in quite a trouble. "I need money." "You always do. Jason, you've been gone for months, not a single goodbye, never call, you could've died and your own sister wouldn't even know about it." You said, trying to make him understand how hard it was for you. "I'm sorry, I'm trying to figure all this out." He said. "By quit school, drugs, and gambling." "I never wanted it to be like this!" He stood up and yelled at you. "Our mother is still at the hospital! I'm working so hard to keep her alive even though she will never wake up again to teach you to be good!!!" You shouted, for once your voice was louder than those rain. Jason wanted to say it wasn't his fault, but he knew this time he couldn't find any excuse so he stood silent. You walked to the fireplace, stared into the flames. Even after everything he's still your brother. "How much?" You asked. "20000 dollars." The answer almost brought tears to your eyes, how could you possibly find money with all that's happening. "Please, (Y/n). They're going to kill me if I can't find the money." He begged. "..." You said nothing, but he knew he had to count on you. You heard he opened the door and let himself out. Quietly against the sound of thunderstorms, a girl whispered to herself. "Happy birthday, (Y/n)." . . . Your pov : "(Y/n). The principal wants to see you." My classmate told me, it distracted me from something I was thinking about. I stood up, for some reason, everyone stared at me, every time anything at all happened to me they all noticed. I know they talk behind my back, but I don't really care. I got a bad feeling about this. I did something wrong? I tried to keep myself calm as I made my way to his office. "(Y/n). Come here. Sit." He said as soon as he saw me, it was like he's been waiting, he looked pretty serious too. "Is there anything wrong?" You asked. "Unfortunately, yes." He replied. "Your scholarship..." "My scholarship?" "We can't give you our next scholarship." I smiled, as if I thought he was joking, even when I knew he's not the kind of guy who would joke about anything like this. "...why?" I asked with a cracked voice. "I don't understand. My grades are good. I passed all the test. And--" "You were absent a lot, and you skipped some classes." "I need time for my part-time job. How else am I supposed to pay the bills?" "I understand all the problems you're having, I really do. But it's the rules. I can't give you if you don't follow them, even if I want to." "..." I felt like there was nothing I could do or say to make it better. So I kept my mouth shut. "If you can't pay us. I'm afraid you have to.." "Leave. I understand." I replied shortly. This feeling inside of me messed me up just in a blink of an eye. I stood up without looking at him as let myself out. How am I supposed to find all the money for everything? The hospital, Jason, my own education, or even my dinner for today. The bell rang. A flood of kids walked out of their classroom. Of course, the worst part of their days is over, but not for me. I go back to my classroom to grab my stuff then I took the train and headed right to Caulfield Bar and grill. How long have I work here? Almost a year now, I guess. It's a normal and decent place to work at for a high school student. All I have to do is take the order and serve. I found myself late again, so I walked faster. I opened up the door, the bar is still close, but I saw other waitress was getting ready already. They look at me and I can tell they were talking about me, probably some bad stuff. Charlene, a girl who's kind of everyone's leader fake smiled to me. Today her bleached hair was braided behind her, her red lips were so glossy, it would be the first thing you notice about her. "I'm sorry," I said, they all know I was talking about being late. "Tell that to Harrison." She said sarcastically with a smile. (Harrison Caulfield : Played by Harrison Osterfield because Batman has Robin and Spider-man has Harrison. He deserves to cameo.) I walked to the back of the bar, to his little office, he sat there at his desk just like every day. "Hey, I'm late again, I'm so sorry." He smiled when he looked at me, it surprised me a little, his energy today was different. "I have a gift for you." He said, bent to grab a little present, then walked to me. "Happy birthday." "Oh... you don't have to," I said. Harrison was always so kind. Too kind, I don't know why. The gift was a little white airplane paper necklace, it was so pretty, he always knew the style I like or even my favorite drink. "Take it. Now go change." He said with a smile. I went to the bathroom to change and decided to put on the necklace. Then I exhaled, tell myself I have to be tough and work even harder. "Happy birthday." Charlene said, she always acts nice towards me, just to talk behind my back later. I know the kind of person she is so well. "Thank you," I said. "Harrison gave you that?" She asked, her smile was as cold as a statue. "Yes." She didn't reply. I heard other waitresses said she likes him, probably another reason to hate me since Harrison is so kind to me. "I heard your school stopped giving you the scholarship." I stopped cleaning the table. "How did you know?" "Well, rumors spreads fast, I have friends in your school. Anyway, tell me if you need anything." I need you to shut up. "Thank you." "Oh! I heard Parker industry is giving out scholarships for this year. You can just walk in their company and asked for it. If your grades are good enough." For once I was interested in something Charlene said. "Parker industry?" "Yeah. The Spider-man's tower, you know?" She smiled one more time then turned away, walking the way everyone would stare at her butt, in either good or bad ways. If there's a chance for me out there, I should take it. I don't want to quit school and give up on my future even though I can't find enough money for everything. "Harrison?" After an hour and hour of walking I walked to Harrison, he was busying with bills. "Can I take the day off tomorrow?" "Sure." I hate it when he always let me do anything I want so easy, I'm such a bad employee. "Can I know why?" "I... um, the school stopped giving me the scholarship. I have to find another way." "I can pay for your school." "Don't let me bother you so much," I said. I then walked to Charlene, they were talking crab about me, again. Once they saw me they flinched. God, do they not have anything else to do at all? "Oh! (Y/n)" Charlene said. "Parker industry. They're really open up for the scholarship right?" "Oh! Yes! Of course. Walk in there, ask them to fill the information and wait for their reply." "Okay. Thank you." I walked away, planning my day that tomorrow I will head to Parker industry, without knowing what Charlene has said after I walked away. "Imagine her face when they say what scholarship she's talking about?" The waitresses laughed. Of course, they were no such scholarship at Parker industry. It was always another prank. But little did they know, my life would turn upside down after that day. -----------
