“Hello lovely inhabitants of Orion Nebula~ It’s me, your amazing host, Antonio Ozawa, live from G.E.M radio. Rise and shine everyone, rumours about a third sun in our solar system are spreading, if true, it means we are getting much more light to reflect on our disco balls~ However it might be a little unfortunate for one of our neighbour planets. Is there even anything hotter than lava? We’ll see! But for today’s gossip! A new pop idol group is rumoured to start and people are speculating they will have something candy sweet as their name! They say Ichigo Fujiyama is going to be-” The familiar jingle of G.E.M radio was playing, then the honey-sweet voice of Antonio Ozawa was the one who pleasantly woke me up. No matter how many times I hear the theme of the radio or his voice, it never gets tiring. And I’m not the only one who thinks that either. But the news was just the same old. Rumours and gossip. Yawning and shaking my head as I get out of bed, a demo song plays from another pop idol group. It’s getting back in style, again. Thinking about it only made me sick and want to go back to bed again. Because of course, my mother wanted me to join one of those damn idol groups.  I walk towards the window and pull on the curtains, having a wonderful view of the city. High buildings with neon lights everywhere. Despite it being early in the morning it was already filled with life. People wearing large hats or poofy skirts. Some were planet inspired while others were candy inspired. It varied but in the end, the whole scenery was just a big messy painting. Sighing I went to my wardrobe that was also filled with poofy skirts. I do love fashion… But not the type where it makes me look like a cupcake. Which is exactly what my mother wants me to look like. Her little sweet cupcake. Rolling my eyes I get dressed in the most discreet way possible. With pastel blue and green. I looked in the mirror, fixing the ribbons on my outfit and made a quick turn. It was a nice contrast to my otherwise too pink style. Not only is my skin pink but my hair as well. If my mother could choose, my eyes would be pink as well. But luckily it’s brown. A boring colour some would say but I am always reminded of chocolate and trees.  As I stare a bit in the mirror I observe my colour scheme. Bubblegum pink skin with pastel pink hair. The desire to dye my hair hot pink only grew. But my mother would get furious if I ever did, taking away my cute innocence as she calls it. Even my ears are droopy, looking like a cute animal. I never really have any problem with how I look, I do like pink. Well, I love pink. But I still want to look more mature and sexy... Instead of cute and innocent. Sighing, I left my room to go to the kitchen and started to prepare some breakfast. I cooked some rice then opened a pack of surprise breakfast powder, mixing it with boiling water. The radio was still playing in the background but as usual, no one was awake yet.  When the rice was ready I sat down and began to eat, that’s when my mother came, already dressed and putting earrings into her ear. Unlike me, her skin colour was red and her ears were pointed upwards. Her modelling career always made her look like a seductress, a lustful being with long black hair and dangerous eyes. To this day, it’s still her identity. She still looks like a seductress, strutting like the world is watching her.  “Is the coffee ready?” “Should be” She went towards the coffee machine and poured to herself before beginning to drink and started the news on the big screen.  “You have dance lessons and singing lessons booked today. You’re also going to the audion today for that pop idol. Sweet sugar strawberry or something” I almost dropped my spoon.  “Today? But I didn’t agree-” “As long as you are on this planet, you will become a part of showbiz. Just like everyone else in this family.” There isn’t any use in arguing against her at this point. She meant what she said. As long as I am still here on Sadotune, this will be my fate.  After breakfast, we went to the lessons where I got lectured over and over again. I don’t know why my mother doesn’t realize I don’t have any talent for this whatsoever. The teacher’s eyes always had a look of disappointment when they saw me. Most of them however were happy for my mom, flirting with her whenever they got the chance. When you have the looks, use it as she says.  Arriving at the agency we went to meet the idol group. The leader, Ichigo Fujiyama did look like a strawberry. Her hair at least while her skin was pastel green. The rest of the members weren’t any special either. Cute and sweet. Like any other group at this point.  “Go on, cupcake, you can do it.” I felt my mother’s hand on my back as she pushed me towards the stage when it was my turn. The lights almost blinded me as I began to dance and sing like I was taught during the lessons today. I didn’t feel too proud about my performance, hoping I would be declined right away. But… The manager returned with his hair completely messy, my mother coming as well behind him. He whispered something to Ichigo who stood up and applauded. The rest of the girls did the same.  ‘Oh no…’  “Congratulations! You are now an official member of Sweet love strawberry!” I quickly smiled and bowed several times thanking them over and over again. And just now I stole an opportunity from someone who would have done anything to join this group. The group walked up on stage to shake my hand while the others who waited for the audition were sent away. The leader was the last to shake my hand who pulled me into a hug.  “Just know that you sucked.” She whispered in my ear before pulling away and gave me a radiant smile. I smiled back and tried not to mind it. After some obligatory dinner with the group “getting to know them” and such, we finally returned home. My brother was heading out as soon as we came home, he had another party to go to. Father was on a business trip for a week now and mom was also getting changed, preparing for an event as well. Eventually, they left me home alone. I was never for parties… All they did was get drunk and use the famous “happy” pills. I always felt left out, being in the corner. Mom never allowed me to consume any of it, saying I should protect my innocence.  I went back to my room and got changed into a pair of pants and a loose shirt. I tied up my hair and began to pack some tools I had hidden in my room. Then I climbed out of my room and moved towards my part-time job. They didn’t pay much… But I’m saving every bit of it to afford a spaceship and get off this planet. My family is usually out partying all night so I managed to find a job at a club to repair the lights and such.  Eventually, I arrived in front of the Sweet and Spicy club. It was just one out of many clubs. But this was more of the lesser-known ones which mean there was less chance one of her family members would find her here, repairing metal scraps instead of being on stage and performing.  I went in and got into work clothes before already getting to work, fixing the ice machine, the beer tap, music and the lights. It was just the usual… Everyone gave me pity eyes as I fixed everything however I loved doing it. It felt so satisfying to take everything apart, solve the problem then assemble everything again then be rewarded by that it works again. But sometimes… My hands are itching to do more. Upgrade it, make it better. Invent a new function! “Ladies and gentlemen! Let me introduce the star of our show! Sarova!” The male announcer introduced one of their top dancers. I quickly looked up from behind the bar to catch a glimpse of her. Well, Sarova, the persona is a woman. The actual performer is a male who is incredibly chill. But when he turns into Sarova it’s like magic. Long black hair, pointy long ears and blood-red skin. She moves like she owns the room like she’s a goddess blessing us with her whip. I remember how the first time I saw her I was completely starstruck. Which created another hobby of mine, playing around with a whip and trying to use it as a weapon and something to dance with. Not going to lie… I hit myself with it accidentally, leaving marks. Hiding it from mom wasn’t easy either.  Every time she was on stage, everyone’s eyes were on her. Her body moved like she was part of the music. I was incredibly impressed every time. Too bad I lacked the talent. I can’t remember the last time I enjoyed singing or dancing. Something we tuners universally love, it’s a part of us. But lately, I’ve been feeling more and more left out from the happiness everyone has.  The performance soon ended and everyone went back to work and the customers quickly took their time to order drinks and snacks. I quickly moved away from the bar and slipped backstage to fix the last of the lights.  “Oh, hey Dahlia.” I quickly turned around to see who called out to me and saw Sarova in front of me.  “H-hi! Saro- or I mean, Meiji” A smile spread across his lips before he let out a small laugh.  “Is my performance as impressive as ever?” “Yeah… Everyone loves Sarova. I’m a little jealous too, you know!”  “What? You? Awww, but you’re adorable Dahlia. I know you can do a big performance. Well, if you want to.” He winked then he began to walk towards the dressing room.  “Also, do you have time to fix my mirror? It’s been acting up.”  “Yeah, of course.” Well, I had more important stuff to take care of but spending actual time with Meiji was rare honestly. The other dancers were also preparing, getting out on stage for a group performance. Meiji took off his wig while I got to work, fixing the lights of his mirror then checked if there was any problem with the software.  “There has been a new regular visiting this club.”  “Really? Spending much?”  “A lot… He keeps sending me flowers, drinks and drugs. Not even the regular kind. But the f****d up kind. I’m getting really bad vibes from him.”  “Did you tell the owner about him?” “Obviously, but he says we can’t do anything about him. As long as he pays and doesn’t do anything too bad then... No reason to send him away” He sighed as he sat down and began to play around with the wig. I walked away from the mirror, towards him and placed a hand on his shoulder. I felt how much I yearned to protect him from anything bad. Running away from this planet together with him. I bit my lip, feeling incredibly awkward.  “If something happens, I’ll protect you” The instant I said it, I regretted it. It felt so cheesy and corny. So much that he burst into laughter. I felt how the blood rushed up to my face. “Thank you, Dahlia. It means a lot.” I felt his hand on top of mine and gave me a genuine smile. Smiling back I quickly pulled my hand away and packed up my stuff.  “Gotta run and fix those backstage lights. So you don’t trip and fall.” As I said it I felt how my foot got caught up in some fabric and I almost fell but managed to catch myself. I let out an embarrassed laugh but his laughter was like a lovely bell.  “I wouldn’t mind tripping and falling if it were for you” My heart skipped a beat and I quickly left the room. I couldn’t stop smiling however as I worked on the lights. In a way… He was like my drug…  After my shift, I went home, climbed up to my room through the window as usual. Hid my now dirty clothes and quickly change into my cute light blue pyjamas. Then I brushed my hair and went to bed which was surrounded by plushies. I took my largest one that looked like a unicorn and hugged it, imaging Meiji again. Fantasies about buying a spaceship and running away together with him kept coming back to me. And with a smile, I drifted off to sleep.
