Chapter 1     ***Kyton's POV***       Opening his eyes was always a difficult task for Kyton. The morning light hurt his eyes as he blinked repeatedly, stretching his muscular arms before sliding his fingers through his light brown, almost blonde hair. He clambered out of bed with a groan and threw on the same clothes from the day before with a careless shrug and didn’t bother even checking his hair. He strolled out of his room with a scowl, Kyton hated existing ever since his mate rejected him. He'd gotten over it for the most part; seeing her around with someone else no longer drove him insane, thankfully. He didn't want a second chance mate either, he was done with it all. Living your life being forced to fall for someone designated to you; unreasonable.      He could use the maids as he pleased and he didn't care about love anymore; he only loved his sister, Hazel. Axel got excited at the thought of his twin, if his wolf could bound around inside his head, Axel would be doing exactly that right now. They were protective of their sibling; she was weaker than he was and much more kind. Still very child-like in her ways and he was not ready for her to find a mate. Axel snarled possessively at Kyton for even considering. Walking into the kitchen, his gaze locked with Hazel's and her expression reflected glee.    "Oh, hey Key!" She'd used his nickname again and he frowned at her, shaking his head.     "Haze, I told you don't call me Key. It's Kyton." He strolled over and gripped her shoulder tightly in warning, making her flinch. She rubbed her arm sheepishly and nodded.      "Sorry, I forgot again..." He angrily scoffed and snatched an apple from the fruit bowl and stomped from the kitchen, glancing back and catching Hazel turn sadly back to the table. He sighed at himself for being such an asshole, but he couldn't help it. The alpha in him was meant to be off putting to anyone other than his mate, and he hated himself for not being able to show more kindness towards her anymore.      The hallway was longer today than it seemed yesterday as he approached the thick, white front doors of the packhouse. He planned to head over to the training grounds and see if any of the she-wolves wanted to privately spar, he smirked to himself. The minute his hand gripped the door, he felt a pull and the familiar small channel of energy followed by the mind-link.    "Kyton, Hazel. My office please, and don't keep me waiting." Great, his plans were shot. Axel paced around in his head, now frustrated that neither Kyton nor his wolf would get any spare time and the day had only just begun. Get it over with and then we can play, Axel smirked.   ***Hazel's POV***       She'd awoken early for the day, for some reason she felt uneasy and wanted to ease the feeling in her stomach she mistakenly took as hunger. She rubbed her bright green eyes and made her way through the long halls to the kitchen where she watched Lyn wiggling her hips to the radio. Hazel grinned playfully and walked up quietly behind her best friend and made a loud ‘reeeeeeeeeeee’ and almost fell to the tiled floor giggling as Lyn struggling to keep a hold on the pancake mix she was currently whisking.      "HAZE! I do kinda need my heart still!" she squealed out in delight. Hazel sat at the table and waited patiently for Lyn to finish cooking, casually singing with her to the radio before she suddenly giggled and said she'd return in a moment. Hazel yawned again and turned in time to see her twin, Kyton waltz into the kitchen. She smiled big and greeted him.     "Oh, hey Key!" but to her dismay, his expression wasn't a happy one as he approached her, grasping at her shoulder tightly and making her cringe away. He'd angrily grumbled out loudly.     "Haze, I told you don't call me Key. It's Kyton." In effort to submit, she rubbed at her upper arm and nodded.     "Sorry, i forgot again..." and avoided eye contact. Kyton almost yanked an apple out of the bowl as he left the room, leaving Hazel to sigh sadly to herself and wonder what she had done to make him grow so cold towards her. She didn't get to wonder long when she felt her father shoot a mind-link, summoning her and her brother to his office. He didn't sound happy and she desperately wondered what Key had done now.        She gently pushed open her father's office doors and found both he and Kyton sitting at the desk waiting for her; Kyton was already seething with rage. She glanced between them, a concerned look taking over.      "Father? Kyton? What's..happening?" Kyton suddenly crossed his arms and quirked a brow at their father as if sarcastically asking if he was going to spill it. Her concern deepened as their father sighed a pained sigh and stood, digging through one of his drawers for some paperclipped documents. Kyton adjusted himself in his seat a few times seemingly more agitated the longer it took to tell her. Finally, he placed several manilla folders in front of her and one was titled, 'Bill of Sale’ with her name boldly typed as the purchase. All the color drained from her face as she realized her father had sold her like an animal.       Hazel stared in disbelief at the document her father had just placed in front of her. She was being handed over to another pack? No... he couldn't, this was her home; she'd been born within these boundaries and only known these lands.      "Father, I can't. YOU can't!" she pleaded, her tone almost reflecting betrayal. Kyton leapt from his chair as if to angrily protest, but the look their father, their alpha, shot back caused Kyton to snap his jaws shut and plop back down in his seat. His eyes hid the defiance he desperately wanted to lash back with as he snarkily replied.      "Real men don't sell their daughters."        Hazel shrank slowly in her chair as she felt the tension in the room grow so quickly, she just wanted to disappear. She hung her head to allow the dark brown hair to cover her face and flushed cheeks. The sudden outburst from Thade caused her to jump and snap her head back up to look between them. Their father had slammed his palm onto the table and spilled Kyton's soda, but he hadn't noticed or rather didn't care.      "Kyton, goddamnit!" Hazel could feel his rage growing and she prepared herself for the tone he was going to use. If Kyton pushed him to it, their father would force him to submit by using the tone; the Alpha tone. Kyton, while an alpha, had not yet taken Thade's place, therefore he doesn't have the extra Alpha (big A) superiority. Thade straightened and his bright green eyes grew a few shades darker as a deep rumble started in his throat, "Nite will be here in a few minutes to finalize everything and you will NOT. GET. IN. HIS. WAY."        The power booming from those last few words caused Kyton to involuntarily shrink away into his seat and Hazel to cover her head as if something were thrown at her. If they were Axel or Azazel, their wolves, they would've had lowered ears and tucked tails. A sigh followed his words as he realized he'd used his anger in front of Hazel too. He walked around his desk and knelt beside her, putting a hand on her head and trying to comfort her.       "Hazel, you know I wouldn't do this if we weren't in need of an alliance. You are going to be a Luna soon." Her tear-filled eyes turned to look at him.      "He's not my mate. You always promised I'd get to find him on my own," she sobbed. Thade opened his mouth as if to speak again when a loud knock sounded against the doors. He sighed, stood and told the guest to enter.        Kyton and Hazel both turned to look as one of the two office doors swung open. Kyton's gaze immediately went dark with anger while Hazel's expression went from fear and confusion to sudden awe. The man was gorgeous; dark brown eyes the color of smokey quarts at its smokiest and darker brown hair than her own, slicked back a bit. His jawline was decorated with a dark beard, speckled with different shades of browns and reds here and there; his broad shoulders looked strong enough to carry the world and possibly all the other planets as well. As soon as their eyes locked, he stopped moving and she stopped breathing.       Several moments passed as they stared at each other. Hazel's jaw had slowly started to drop when Kyton let a low growl escape, breaking the pause. Nite shifted his gaze to Hazel's twin, a knowing glance crept across his face. She wondered what both were thinking when her father cleared his throat and spoke.      "Kyton, Nite and I have some business to discuss. Hazel, darling, you're dismissed as well. I'll send one of the maids, most likely Lyn when it's time for you and Nite to speak."      Kyton scoffed and swiftly stood, grabbing Hazel's arm and yanking her up with him. He started to storm towards the door and made a point to almost throw her passed Nite; causing him to suddenly release a warning growl that sent a shiver down even Thade's spine. Without speaking she knew the warning was for Kyton to release her from his grip; he did. He shot Hazel an angry glance that she knew he was not going to let this go easily. After he'd left, she made her exit as well, making sure to shut the large white door behind her and leaned against it for a moment. Her best friend, Lyn, happened to walk by, stopping for a moment and staring at her, suddenly squealing with excitement.     "You found your mate!"
