CHAPTER 1

1014 Words
Cailean's POV It was Saturday night, meaning it was C.R.A.S.H's night out! That was the name of our group, which was derived from the first letters of our names. Me and my friends Reese, Amanda, Sabrina, and Heather, hang out every Saturday doing whatever we want. It was mainly about girls' stuff like a home spa, girly chit-chats with beer or wine, and the inevitable "TRUTH OR DARE!". This was always the highlight of our get-together. Remembering what happened last week, we dared Amanda to drink three bottles of beer in one full minute. Well, she was the hard drinker of the group, and beer was really her buddy, so she was able to do it in 55.8 seconds. Then, in a few moments, she passed out, and the rest was history. It was crazy! Tonight's agenda was clubbing, so I chose the sexiest and prettiest dress I have. I put on a V-neck royal blue short dress that shows the perfect curves of my body. I am more of a jeans and shorts person, so it's a good thing I bought this dress when I went malling with the girls, thinking that I might need it someday, and I was right! I decorated my plain dress with a white gold matinee-style necklace with a crescent moon pendant, which my grandma gave me on my eighteenth birthday, plus matching high heels to complete my outfit. Then, I curled my hair into soft waves and applied some shimmering makeup, perfect for clubbing. I stared at myself in the vanity mirror for a while, appreciating myself before grabbing my car keys and hitting the road. ***** Saturday night traffic was one of my pet peeves! I would never get used to it. It always gets on my nerves, so I decided to make a detour at Wood Bridge forest. As I recall, one of my friends told me that there was a route through the woods going downtown, but people rarely use it because it was full of wild animals. I never heard the news about an animal attack in our area, so I never believed it. I'm a "To see is to believe" kinda girl. The woods seemed pretty calm and dark, which was expected, and darkness never gave me a creep. I continued driving towards the inner part of the woods when I heard a distant howl! s**t! Was that for real, or am I imagining? Then I heard another howling sound, this time, it was louder and seemed closer. I started to freak out and decided to stop the car to gather myself together, but instead of stepping on the brakes, I stepped on the accelerator and then BANG! Everything went black. ***** As I regained consciousness, I saw a large tree in front of me, and my car was in a total wreck. Then, I felt something wet and sticky flowing down the left side of my face. I looked at myself in the rearview mirror to check. Fear and panic consumed me when I saw the terrifying image of my face in the mirror. The left side of my face was full of blood, and the blood kept on trickling! I tried to look for something to clear it out, and that's when I heard a low growl which sounded really close. I looked to my right and saw a pair of blue eyes staring straight at me. I closed my eyes for a few seconds to adjust my vision and to make sure that I wasn't just seeing things. Fear consumed me, realizing that I really saw something, that it wasn't a figment of my imagination, and this time, I could see a clear picture of a wolf. The face of an abnormally big wolf compares to a wolf that I know. Panic ran all over me, so I went out of the car and started running! I kept running without looking back, without thinking about where to go. I noticed that I was getting deeper and deeper into the woods, and I could see glistening water ahead of me; it was a lake. The only thought in my mind was to reach the lake and hope that I would find a group of people camping that could help me. But then another thought hit me, the possibility of dying! Death by an animal attack is such a gruesome death. Oh, God, please don't let me die like this! I never thought that my life would end at the hands of a monster. And for sure, I will be brutally murdered, like I will be torn into pieces! I shook my head to get rid of all the ridiculous thoughts and focused on my goal to reach the lake. I pushed myself to run faster, even though I was starting to become exhausted like hell. When I was about to reach the lake, I suddenly slammed on a hard, wall-like barrier and fell flat on my back. Then an excruciating pain radiates all over my body. I closed my eyes and groaned in pain. I couldn't move. I opened my eyes and tried to look up to see what was in front of me, and I was dazed to see an image of a man with a pair of beautiful gray orbs kneeling beside me. He was scanning my body from head to toe, and when he reached my eyes and met my gaze, it affected me in a way that I couldn't explain. It's like a magnet pulling me closer to him. I got more drawn when the moonlight gleamed in his eyes, making them sparkle with unrelenting charm. It's the most beautiful thing I've ever seen in my whole life. It's so beautiful in a way that I will never get tired of staring at them. What's more, fascinating is that it provides me with warmth and comfort. While drowning in the sight of his lovely orbs, I heard a possessive voice saying, "Mine"! I tried to open my mouth to speak, but no words nor sound came out, and I succumbed to total darkness.
