BIRTHDAY

EVE’S POV.
Thank God examinations are finally over for good. If I was to tell you how this semester was for me, the best word would have been miserable. What a stupid semester. My best friend Samantha, I usually call her Sam and I, were heading to the library to take our best series for the holiday.
“How I wish to never come back here.” I said, for the sake of breaking the silence. She rolled her eyes and side smirks. “Love what you do. And it will love you back.” She said it like the wisest person.
She is smarter than me, I must say, but it’s only because she works hard at reading books. Who the hell would do that? I hate being in the classroom on time, doing your assignment, getting A grades and the craziest, competing to be at the top. I scoffed. “Keep that to yourself.”
Taking our steps to get into the library, she suddenly gave me a huge grin. “What?” I had to ask. “Mind if I see you later?”
Was she asking for my permission right now? I looked around for anyone I could think of that would have made Sam want to leave me alone in the library. There was no one.
“Where are you going, Miss?”
“Nowhere.” She shrugged. Putting the collar of her shirt well. “How do I look?”
Look? She just asked me how she looked? There must be something really serious. “Okay.” Throwing my hand in the air. Just go. Call me when you are done. I am going to get my copy of BLOOD and WATER.”
She gave me a quick hug and in the blink of an eye, she disappeared behind the library shelves. I hope she has a crush on a straight A guy. Well, I turned around to head to the shelves to just step on someone, “Aw” I screamed as I was about to triple and strong masculine hands caught me before I noticed, or hit my head on the floor.
“Watch where you are going, Miss.” A familiar voice whispered.
I quickly jumped out of his hands, noticing a few eyes on me before everybody kept on being busy. “I am so…” I stopped after noticing my handsome Xavier smirking at me.
“You are so?”
“You did that on purpose.” He shouldn’t have expected my apology.
“But you weren’t watching where you were going.”
We both noticed people staring at us. And my senses rushed back to me. We were actually arguing at the library.
I embarrassingly started to walk away, and he grabbed my hand. “Going for this?” Showing me the book. ‘BLOOD AND WATER.’ He must know I was going for it, as I was complaining I didn’t get to finish it when the final exams commenced.
He smirked, feeling proud, decided. “Come here.” Grabbing me outside before I decided to follow him or not.
“Where are we heading?” I had to ask as he kept quite all the way outside the library, to the main door.
“You’ll see.” He mumbled.
“Can you at least let go of my hand?” I know everyone knows there is a thing between us. But walking with him hand in hand like this, in public, feels a little uncomfortable.
“Why should I?” Looks like he had no intention of letting me go, even if I decided to crawl in those corridors. We were soon outside the building, heading to his car.
He opened the passenger’s doors for me and I slid in. “Am I being abducted?” I asked as soon as he takes the driver’s seat.
“Take it easy cupcake.” He smirked.
I chuckled “What is with the cupcake?”
“Your new nickname.” He smiled, giving me a killer smile, bring the engine to life an took off from the place.
“Someone is in a good mood today.”
He raised an eyebrow, his eyes shifting from my face to the road constantly.
“What is with you today?” He makes me uncomfortable and nervous at the same time.
He laughed sheepishly. “I want today to be the most beautiful day in your life.” He said, his right arm moving from the wheel to right beside his chin. Not touching his face though.
He looks handsome when he does that, and he knows that. “What are you doing?” He actually can’t stop smiling, making my cheeks grow pink at that moment.
“You are beautiful when you are pink.” He said, both his hands on the wheel, and he took a sharp corner of haileseleisee road. My instincts couldn’t let me relax. I trust him one hundred percent, but not know when my head totally wants me to get myself prepared.
“Can I at least know where we are going? Why am I abducted?”
He exhaled, his hand reaching for mine. “It’s a surprise. You’ll love it.” He assured me. I nodded in agreement. Trying to convince myself that everything is and will be perfectly fine.
It didn’t take long for him to halt in front of this house. I have never been here before.
“Who lives here?” I asked as he allows the car back to sleep. “Are you that worried?”
I exhaled, I trust him and I am trying hard right now to convince my whole brain system that we all trust him.
“Let me get the door for you.” He drops and opens the door for me. The atmosphere’s calm, the place is cool and cozy. “I wish this was my parents’ place. Feels relaxing already.” I said with a smile.
“I thought you were worried.”
“I am a little. But that doesn’t make the place ugly. It feels comfortable, really.”
“I love the sound of that. Let’s go in.” He takes my hand and lead me to the door. He rings the door bell and we patiently waited for someone to open. As f the person knew I was at the peak of my curiosity as the door flew open in a minute.
Exposing a white beard Man with a hug grin in his face. “Honey! They are here.” He shouted.
“Hello Dad.” Xavier greeted me as they exchanged hugs, both of their faces filled with smiles that forced me to react the same.
“Hello Xavier. I’m glad you made it.” He said. Breaking the hugs and the eyes were to me.
“Good Evening Sir.” I said with a grin. He didn’t hesitate to pull me in for a hug, and I did so in return. “You must be Eve?” He asked. I nodded. “Yes Sir.”
“Welcome In.” He stood aside and Xavier took my hand again, leading me inside. A white hairy lady standing beside the couches, a huge smile on her face as well. She must be the man’s wife, I assume.
“Hi Mam?” Xavier ran to hug her. Mam? I have never heard him speaking of his parents. Are they his parents? Like real parents? This must be crazy.
