VHONN'S POV Wubat, 2015 SILENCE filled the packhouse as my dad and I joined our hands. "I, Max Davenport, pass on the title and rights of the Alpha to you, Vhonn Davenport, to provide and safeguard the Valiantmoon Pack." As soon as he announced that, I felt the shift of power going into my body, my soul. I was certain that everyone could feel it, too. This day, I just turned eighteen. And this ceremony was performed for me receiving the title of the new Alpha of the Valiantmoon Pack. Being the new Alpha, I am now the highest-ranking member of the wolf pack; the wisest and strongest among us. I am now responsible for leading the pack on hunts, establishing pack territory and its safety, and many more. I just got many responsibilities now. We all howled. I was the one who howled first, then followed by them. Everyone in the packhouse cheered. A magnificent celebration indeed, not only for my birthday but also for the future generation of the pack. However, deep inside me, I was not that totally happy. Though I got one thing I had worked hard for, which was to make myself worthy of being the Alpha of our pack—though I was naturally to inherit it since my dad was the former Alpha, I still did efforts to be worthy—I couldn't hide the fact that I felt sad knowing that I haven't found my mate yet. I was waiting for this moment in my life to come but frustration just clasped my heart. The party was awesome, and now over. Dawn came—three in the morning. And my wolf was still anxious and restless. I couldn't even stop it. It wouldn't listen to me no matter how hard I tried to calm it down. So was I—annoyed, worried, disappointed. We had the same feelings after all. "Just relax, son," came the voice from behind me. It was Dad who spoke. "Your mom and I didn't know we were mates until a day or two after my eighteenth birthday. Just hang on." He laughed. Jane, my mom, ruffled my hair. "Time will definitely come, sweetheart. You can find your mate soon. The Moon Goddess knows best," she told me, making me nod, somehow in agreement yet still saddened. I found myself in my bed and lost in my own thoughts. I was talking to my wolf, Gray like we were both about to lose our sanity. Two days swiftly passed by, and I couldn't still feel and smell my mate. I was even searching but I failed. Until days became weeks, then months, and even years, I became the CEO of Vrabe Technology. Then, I have two responsibilities—the Alpha of our pack and the CEO of our company. But my mate... I was searching for my mate. Still, I found no one. I was longing for my mate. I was starting to become hopeless. When would my mate come? I was going crazy. But there was still a part of me that hoped... that trusted the Moon Goddess. Still, I wouldn't stop searching until I've found what I am looking for. I know it was going to be worth it. Wubat, Present Time WHILE perusing over the documents and penning my signature on them, I heard someone knocking three times at the door of my office. "Come in," I informed. I heard the door slightly creaked open. "Sir Alpha Davenport, I just received a call from a man who didn't want to tell his name. He told me to give this to you as soon as possible. It's urgent." I stared at Jude, my werewolf secretary, for a while before I shifted my eyes to what he was holding. I heaved a sigh and took it from him. "You can go now," I stated coldly. Everyone knew I was cold, and along with that was a fuming me. I didn't know why I easily got mad. I was kind of moody, or even having anger management issues sometimes. Maybe, I just got pissed off easily—or maybe I was just like this because I still haven't met my mate. That's why I tend to put my anger on anyone without controlling myself, or knowing what I was doing. I didn't know. Jude nodded, then left. It was a letter from an anonymous person—or werewolf, maybe. I was hesitant to read it, so I just placed it aside. I would read it later, or tomorrow. I didn't know why, but every time I received a letter from an unknown being, it crept the hell out of me. I was never a negative thinker, but I couldn't help myself from having such thoughts ever since our pack had set foot here in the Zamboanga Peninsula—in Wubat, particularly. I am now twenty-four. And the memory was still fresh in my mind. I could still remember the time I was thirteen when the former Alpha had decided to find Valiantmoon Pack a tentative place to live after the bloody war in the wilderness of Hungary. Many lives were lost at that time. That was eleven years ago. The year 2010. Until we got here in Wubat, we found it convenient to stay in. Wubat is a big city located in the northern part of the Zamboanga Peninsula. Wubat has a large forest in the East where no werewolves were living. We absolutely know that no werewolves and other beings that could threaten our lives are living in the whole peninsula as we had done a meticulous observation, tracking down, and sensing. Since then, we had marked the woods of Wubat as our pack territory. Even the area near the woods, we had marked it. And now, I was just a mite bothered if bad werewolves could get into the city and find us. The enemy before was hard to beat but we still won. Though I was brave and ready to fight and protect my pack, I couldn't afford to lose even a single pack member this time. And though we had won the war before, I don't want it to happen again. If ever we would encounter a pack other than us—and they were good—we could, somehow, build friendship and get along with, and let our own packs live peacefully. No fight or battle to do. My thoughts were suddenly interrupted when my phone dinged. "Yo, Alpha! What's up?" came the voice from the other end the moment I answered the call. It was Dad, the former Alpha. "I'm good... and busy." I heard him laugh. "Chill, son. Don't stress yourself out. Come home now. Vhan's already here." "For real?" I got excited. Vhan didn't tell us he'd arrive this day. "Yeah, boy." "Great news! Oh, yeah. I'm off now." I heard him laugh again before I ended the call. I couldn't contain my happiness upon hearing Vhan was here in Wubat already. We are brothers. He was in Manila for more or less than a month having some chillin' and sexy vacation with his mate. They found out they were mates when they were both eighteen which happened two months ago. I felt a bit envious of them upon remembering my mate. Honestly and heartily, there were no times I haven't remembered or thought of my mate, though. Six years had passed already since my eighteenth birthday, and I still have no idea where my mate is. But I wouldn't stop searching. It was already ten minutes before six in the evening when I arrived home from the city where the Vrabe building was situated. Vhan immediately hugged me the moment he saw me enter. I hugged him back. "I missed you, Alpha," he said, patting my back. "I missed you, too." I beamed as we detached from the hug. "Look how you've grown up. Seems like you're taller than me now in just a couple of weeks," I complimented. "And hotter than you." He chuckled, making me glare at him. "Chill, dude! Okay, you're hotter now. We all know that." He grinned, giving up. "You can't exceed my height and hotness," I declared confidently. He shook his head, maybe in disbelief, or something. "How are you, Emmy?" I was referring to my brother's mate who was quiet at his side. She shrugged her shoulders. "I'm good... and a bit tired. You know Vhan's urging hormones. He goes crazy if we don't have s*x over and over again." She rolled her eyes at Vhan who was now hugging her. We all burst into laughter at the two. They were funny, sparkling, and sweet. I suddenly thought of my mate and me. Could we look so sweet like them? Maybe, we could be sweeter than they were. We all headed to the kitchen for dinner. And Vhan was talking gibberish while we were eating. Obviously, he was the talkative one between us two. I only tend to be bubbly if I had so much to say, and that's very rare. And now he was very loud and proud announcing the obvious. "Emmy's pregnant! My mate is pregnant!" "Yeah, son. We already knew that. You told us that a while ago," Dad said to Vhan. He turned to look at his side where Mom was. "Right, honey?" He beamed. Mom replied promptly. "Yeah, honey." And they pinched each others' cheeks. "It was meant for the Alpha. He didn't know about it," Vhan defended, looking at Emmy who reciprocated a sweet smile right for his husband. I sharply glared at all of them. My wolf snarled in anger. That was then they all cleared their throats and got back to eating instead of flirting with their mates in front of the food, and of me, and my wolf. I was right. They were teasing me—absolutely teasing me—because they all had their mates at their side. And me? I had no one—not yet, for now. I tried to keep my wolf sedated. Gladly, it did. "I'm done," I told them rigorously after drinking my cold tea. I got up from my seat and left to go upstairs. I could hear them apologizing—probably grinning, too, in amusement for my reaction a while ago—before I got into my room. I threw myself on the bed, breathing out a deep sigh. "I really need to meet my mate. Please..." the last words I had muttered before I fell deep in sleep.
