Chapter 1

My breathing increased as I carried my sixth bag upstairs. This is one of the reasons I hate moving, its way too stressful The delivery men and my dad were putting all the furniture in place while I carried the luggage I put the suitcase in my sister; Jasmine's room She was busy lying on her bed flipping through a magazine, indifferent about what was going on "It wouldn't kill you to help a little you know" I said as I dragged her suitcase inside It was so heavy. What's in here anyway? "And ruin my perfectly manicured nails? Hell no" I shook my head. There's no point in arguing with her, I'd just put myself in trouble. She always wins My father always favoured her right from our childhood. It was clear I was the odd one in the family "While you're at it, put it over there" she ordered pointing to the corner of the room I carried it where she instructed me to "I've put it where you asked me to" I said "So?" "So? I don't even get a thank you?" She rolled her eyes and continued reading. I left the room to help with the rest of the packing A few hours later we were done. I was just cooking spaghetti when the doorbell rang "I'll get it" my dad announced from the living room "Thanks dad" I could hear voices but I didn't pay attention. I continued cooking My phone rang on the counter. It was Jasmine. She preferred to call me than waste her energy to come downstairs or call my name I picked up the phone "Hello" I answered "What's for dinner?" "Spaghetti and meatball sauce" "Is it ready?" "Almost" "Good, bring mine upstairs when you're done. I'm really hungry" "Sure thing" She hung up on me "Jasmine! Jade! Come here" my dad shouted "Coming!" I reduced the heat so the food wouldn't burn then made my way into the living room By the door was a woman and a teenage boy who looked my age I couldn't see his face cause he was leaned against the wall, his head down focused on his phone He looked as if he didn't want to be here at all. From what I could see, he was really tall and had a perfectly toned body "Good evening ma'am" I greeted "Hello dear" "This is my daughter, Jade" my dad introduced "my other daughter, Jasmine is upstairs. Jade these are our neighbors" "Nice to meet you" I said "I saw you guys move in so I decided to come say hi. Here, have these" She handed me the bouquet of flowers she was holding. They smelt so fresh "Thank you. These are lovely" I said "My name is Emma and this is my son, Riley" she referred to the boy "Hi Riley" I said He just looked at me for a few seconds then continued with his phone. Emma chuckled nervously "Don't mind him, he's a bit shy" I smiled. He isn't shy, he has a very bad attitude. Who does he think he is? Looking at me like a piece of trash that isn't worth his time "What school will you be attending?" She asked She sounded nervous as if she was embarrassed by her son. I would be too if I had a son like that "Riverside high" I replied "Oh, Riley goes there too. Maybe you'll run into each other" I shrugged. I have no intention of even talking to someone that's so rude "Yeah maybe" "Riley, maybe you could show her around at least on her first day" she told him "No" he said I opened my mouth in shock as how rude he was to his mom "Can we go now?" He asked impatiently "Sure, nice meeting you people" "Thanks again for the flowers" I said "Thank you for coming" my dad said We said our goodbye's before they left "What an interesting kid" my dad murmured I laughed making my way back to the kitchen. When I was done, I served my food and my dad's on the table I took Jasmine's upstairs to her room. I knocked but she didn't answer. I knocked again but still no response Thinking she was in the bathroom I opened the door and entered. She gasped in shock when she saw me "My goodness, I thought you were dad" She was all dressed up in a black tight dress and heels "Where are you going?" I asked "A party. Don't worry, its not too far" "A party? We just moved here. Who do you know?" "I met someone on ** that lives nearby and he told me about it. He's really cute" What the hell? She didn't even see anything wrong in what she just said. She continued doing her make up while I stood there looking at her in shock "Have you ever heard of online friends killing people. Are you sure this is safe?" I know we barely get along but she's still my sister and I care about her "Positive. My uber is outside" This was all too much to take in "What am I gonna tell dad?" I asked "Nothing, I'll lock my door and turn off the lights after you leave. I always lock the door so he'll think I'm sleeping" "How will you get out?" "The window. There are places I can step on" I face palmed myself. What if she falls or gets hurt? "Please don't tell dad" she begged Of course I wouldn't. I couldn't even if I wanted to If I ever tried going against her she'll make my life miserable "I won't" I promised "stay safe" I dropped her food on the bed and proceeded to leave the room "Jas? " "Yes?" "You look great" She smiled which she rarely ever did "Thank you" When I exited the room she locked the door. By the time I got downstairs my dad was already eating on the dining table so I decided to join him "Where's your sister?" He asked "In her room. I just dropped her food" How I hate lying to my father "You know I thought we could all eat together as a family on our first day in our new home but I guess I was wrong" The sadness in his tone was obvious. I felt so sorry for him. I put my hand on top of his and squeezed it "Sorry" I said "Its just, your sister... If she's not in her room, she's on her phone. If she's not on her phone she's out with friends. If she's not... " he shook his head "I'm afraid I've said too much" He stood up "You should go to bed early tonight, you've got a big day tomorrow" Those were his last words before he retreated upstairs With a heavy sigh I packed our plates to the kitchen. My arms hurt from all the packing I did so I decided to wash the plates tomorrow instead I was just about to get into bed when I looked through my window. Riley's room was opposite mine He was shirtless pacing round his room, probably looking for something. I stared at him in awe He came to his window sill, his eyes met mine. He made eye contact with me for what seemed like forever till he closed his windows and curtains with so much force As I laid in bed that night, I couldn't help but think about Riley. I'm a kind of person that gets attracted to weird or different people. For some odd reason, I found him intriguing He's the real definition of the bad boy character I read in novels or books on w*****d. He had this bad aura like someone you do not want to mess with Why does he act this way? I grabbed my diary from my bedside table and started to write Thursday 8th March 2018 Dear diary, Today was very hectic, we moved into our new house. I'm quite sad we had to move out of the old one cause I'll miss my friends but we had no choice... You know why My hands hurt as hell but I can't help it cause I have to keep you updated about what goes on. Jasmine didn't help at all as usual, she even went for a party.. With someone she doesn't know! She claims she met him online though but its still not safe I bit my pen, contemplating if I should write about Riley I met a boy today, his name is Riley. His mom is so nice, she came to welcome us and she even gave me flowers, he on the other hand is rude and.... I don't even know how to describe him but diary, he's so good looking that I can't get him out of my head. His mom said we're going to the same school. I can't wait to see him tomorrow Love Jade
