Prologue She ran as fast she could but the figure kept looming behind like a dark shadow that was inescapable. The more she ran the more the realisation that fate wasnt on her side grew, this certainly going to be the end for her. Both her palms and right arms were bleeding profusely, draining her life slowly making her vision hazy as she tried to focus on the road ahead. It didnt help that the night sky was darker than usual without the moonlight to guide the way and there were no street lights to help her out. "Kayla! Kayla! Stop!" She heard her name being called out by her hunter, the voice was very familiar, the tone friendly, calling out to her trying to sooth her to stop running away from it. But she knew it was all a ruse to trick her and finish the job. Fatigue started weighing heavily on her and her breathing became more erratic, she stopped for a second leaning on a tree to catch her breath as she looked behind. Her hunter realized she was worn out and increased the pace ready to pounce on her, the butcher knife clutched tightly for the brutal strike. Kayla saw it coming and her adrenalin kicked in once more as she took off just escaping by milliseconds. She could hear the hunter's frustrated huffing, the chase had gone far too long and it was only a matter of time before someone showed up to save her. The thought of getting away pushed kayla more as she took a turn towards the main highway. Salvation was in eye's view she just had to make it and hope a car passed by to save her. Her hunter saw the road as well, it was fun toying around with her but know things were switched into high gear and it was clear that the balance had tipped into equal chance of survival for both of them. No matter what the victim would not run away from her doom. Kayla was working on fumes, it had been at least an hour since the attack began with a long run through the woods and a deserted dirt road, her longevity was all thanks to her athletic abilities but when she needed it most it failed her. Her energy was lower than ever due to her blood loss and she was nearly out of it as she half ran half wobbled her way to the highway. Her sight was blurry growing darker by the seconds becoming almost useless as she was left running on pure instinct alone. Her spine was failing, her back was hunching further and further every step she took worn out, her muscles were stiff and aching unable to push anymore. This was it for her she had gone as far as she could, exceeding her limits in a desperate attempt to save herself. It was tragic and demoralising given the fact that she was so close to turning the tides, her ticket to freedom just yards away. The hunter saw kayla fall down on the ground and remain motionless. The pace was slowed down and it was clear that kayla had lost. It was a relief as the hunter had a brief glimpse of doubt seeing kayla jet off so easily but even 'do it all' kayla had a limit and it was only a matter of time before her body failed her. With a sinister grin underneath the black hound mask the hunter approached the lain body on the ground and flipped her over on her back with a large boot to the side. Kayla was still breathing, good, she was still needed alive for a while. The hunter saw the victim's eyes flutter and open slowly and immediately put a knee to her chest pinning her down to the dusty ground. The large butcher knife was brandished before kayla as a means to terrify her even more before the hunter slowly moved towards her neck slightly below her chin and held it firmly to her skin, just enough to let it's cold steel send chills through her skin but not to much pressure that could cut her. "So where were we?" Oh yes the diary I want it." Kayla was far gone deep in her own mind, memories of happier times and unforgettable moments flashed before her eyes. Her father teaching her how to ride a horse, her mother singing her to sleep every night when she was young, her first swimming meet, friends and sisters she wouldn't betray for anything in the world, boyfriends and supposed lovers that at some point mattered more to her than her grades. It all came down to such a horrible way to die. She always thought she would go out like her grandmother, surrounded by three kids and a flurry of grandkids as she took her last breath leaving this life full of love and satisfaction but fate sometimes was a b***h. Her hunter removed the dog mask revealing the true identity of person with full power of her. It was a heartbreaking moment as she closed her eyes and let a single tear fall from her left eye, a final act of despair from a soul that was gone long before it's time.
