Chapter 1: The Meet Up

1249 Words
I throw my duffle bag in the back of the car and close the door. I open the drivers side door and slide in, turning the keys in the ignition. This is going to be the summer.  The summer of my life.  My last summer before graduation.   I wanted to make it spectacular so I called my uncle and asked if I could borrow his beach house for the summer along with a few friends and their girlfriends. He agreed as long as I kept it in check and didn't destroy the place.   It wasn't until I actually got in the car today to drive to Florida that I realized that this is actually happening. This is real. I'm going to have the best summer of my life.    It's a thirteen and a half  hour drive from Washington D.C. to Florida. I had made a playlist of practically every song made for the drive the week before. I've been up to my toes with excitement for a month now and now that it's finally here, I can't believe it. I never go anywhere because my parents are always busy.  I drive away from my house not looking back and set the address of the Beach House in my GPS. Siri's voice comes through the speakers. Me and my friends had made an agreement that we would meet there because they didn't want to have to drive to Florida so they're flying out instead. I pick up my phone from the cup holder, open Spotify and look for Ava Max "Alone Part II".  Okay? I listen to Ava Max, Shoot me. I pull into the highway and start my journey. *** Shit. I'm only fifteen minutes from the beach house and I have a f*****g flat tire. You have got to be kidding me. I really don't want to have to wait a few hours for AAA. I grab my phone off the charger and look for Oliver. I tap his name and wait for him to pick up. He picks up after four rings. Oliver: "Hello?" Liam: "Hey man. Can one of you guys use the car and there should be a tow bar in the back. I just got a flat tire and I'm only like fifteen minutes away." Oliver: "Yeah. Hold on." I hear a shuffle in the background and a muffled voice saying "Hey guys, Liam got a flat tire and he needs someone to pick him up. I'm doing something. So who's doing it?" I hear, I think Axel,  say "I'll do it. I got nothing better to do anyway." Then a small female voice says "Do you need any help?" "Yes I would love some help. Thanks for asking, beautiful." A louder but still muffled voice says "Hey, don't talk to my cousin like that." It must be Oliver because I said he could bring his cousin. I remember her name being Summer. It just kind of stuck in my head, I guess It's because I couldn't wait for summer. I hear more shuffling and then Oliver comes back on. Oliver: "Axel and Summer are coming to pick you up." There's a pause well he listens to something someone says. "Axel said to text him the address." Liam: "Got it, Bye."    Oliver hung up and I sat back in the car before I started pacing down the street in anxiousness. When people say there are palm trees everywhere in Florida, they're lying. They're only planted down by the water and right now, even though I'm only fifteen minutes away from the water, I see no palm trees. Not a single one. I only see Oak trees.  Palm trees are pretty, Oak trees? Not so much.    I sigh and look around. There's a place called "Trip's Diner" across the street. Trip's Diner has a glass view of the inside from where I am across the street. It also has a patio with a bunch of maroon umbrellas above there tables.  I wonder what mom and dad are doing right now. Do they even care that I'm gone? Do they even miss me? Did mom even notice I left? A loud honk interrupts me from my thoughts.  I turn my head to see my uncles 2020 Mercedes-Benz A-class. My uncle has too much money to spend. This specific car is for the Beach House. So, along with a big ass beach house, he let me borrow the beach houses car along with it. "Hey man. How've you been?" I ask when the car door opens. Axel comes out with his brown hair, tan skin, green eyes and all his glory. I swear he purposely tries to make himself look stupid when he walks in semi-slow motion like he's doing right now. I hear another car door close shut and I look over to the passengers side.    A girl as beautiful as can be walks towards me with a small shy smile on her face. She has light blonde hair with dirty blonde roots. She has pretty green-blue eyes and perfect straight white teeth. She's wearing a see through oversized white coverup and I can see the curves that run down her body.   Under her coverup is a teal blue one piece bathing suit with slits on the sides that showed her perfect olive toned skin.  She wasn't wearing shoes which for some reason I thought was really cute. She tucked a piece of hair behind her ear shyly and held out a hand for me to shake. "Hi, I'm Summer." She says smiling.   My speechless self stared at her. Then I made a small shake of my head to snap me out of that daze, smiled and shook her hand. "Hey, I'm William but everyone just calls me Liam. You can call me whatever. Although, my mom calls me William and she says it's-" I break off blushing. Why. Am. I. Rambling? She just carries this amused expression on her face. Axel looks between the two of us, raises an eyebrow and says to me "Well, I'm going to go tow your car. Try not to be awkward." Then he walks away. Did he just... He wouldn't... But he just did. "So, Liam your uncle owns the beach house?" She asks. "Yeah, he said I could have it for the summer." I say then pause. "So, are you and Oliver really close?" I ask curiously.     Her expression immediately turns to surprised than trust, sadness and loathing. Hmmm... So, there's a story there. I think it's better for me not to ask what it is though. "Yeah, he got me through some tough times with my family." She winces realizing she said more than intended. "Well, that's cool. Anyway, are you excited for this summer?" I ask changing the subject. Her face lights up and she smiles and says "Definitely." My entire body feels a tingling feeling knowing that I made that smile on her face. "Okay, come on guys, get in. We are towing this god awful thing you call a car." Axel says to me. My car is a silver Bugatti EB110. It's not even a bad car, it's in mint condition and this is the first time it's ever got a flat. Stupid glass liquor bottle. That tire is going to cost me a fortune. "You just don't like old cars and that is such a shame" I say before putting my hand out for the keys. "Uh uh. No way, this is too nice of a car and I want to drive it." Axel protests. "Did you forget who owns the car?" I ask. "Your uncle?" Axel guesses. "Well, yeah but he's my uncle. So, fess up the keys." I say. "Come on. Hand em over." "Fine." He says. "Catch!" He throws the keys toward me and luckily I caught them. "Okay, let's get this show on the road. Summer gets front seat." I say shooting a smile at her.
