Mercy is one of the greatest kingdoms in North America. Its warriors have fought so many battles and came victorious. It is true that in a battle many warriors fall but the kingdom of Mercy has lost not more than a quarter of its men in each battle, at least not in 15 long years. Almost every great kingdom has at least one or two fearless warriors and Mercy is lucky to have one. Although he is the eldest son of a king, he has never been regarded as one, and before you wonder why it is because he is an illegitimate child or what everyone in Mercy calls a bastard. All his life he had only one dream and that dream was not to be king but protect his kingdom with all his life. He wanted to be accepted, not only by his father but also by the whole kingdom. For years his life has been the same, wake up, take a bath, eat breakfast and head out to patrol around the kingdom, he always made sure there were no unusual things around the kingdom. He always believed he has to protect the kingdom with his last breath. The fact that no one ever seemed to appreciate whatever he was doing-not out in the open anyway- never stopped him. He is Logan Fairchild, born in Mercia, a small village in Mercy Kingdom where his mother grew up. He was always told that his mother was a w***e who wanted to wreck a perfect marriage because of her selfishness from a very young age and he never understood any of it. He always wondered why they only blamed his mother, it's not she was alone in that relationship. The king was supposed to bear the consequences too but he knew that people would never paint him as unfaithful. They all made it look like his mother was the one who went to the king and told him she loved him. Even if she did, the king is matured to take decisions for himself, he would have told her to go to hell. Even if he did feel the same. Why describe a marriage where a man is in love with someone else, not his wife as perfect? He would never understand anything about that. He wouldn't dare ask anyone though because he knew he would never like the consequences. The only thing he could do was let those words remain in his head and never leave. At the age of 15, he was expected to be on a battlefield, he knew most people had hoped he would die there and never come back. He was well aware of his surroundings, he just decided to turn a blind eye. It was safer that way. Every day he would greet people and smile at them and pretend they were friends but he knew as soon as he turned his back they would start pointing fingers at him and think he doesn't know. It never bothered him though because he knew he never wanted anything from them. The only people he cared about were his family. His younger brother Kade hated him and it always killed him to see the hate he held in his eyes whenever he was looking at him. As for his father, well that was a very sad story, he never wanted him around and whenever he happened to bump into him, he would either ignore him or talk to him like he was talking to a stranger. When his name left his father's lips, it was like he was talking about a devil himself, it was always laced with venom and he wasn't a fool. He knew his father wished he was never born. He woke up and did his morning routine and headed to the kitchen to prepare breakfast for him and his mother, it's something he always does during weekends. "I was beginning to think you were never going to wake up today. I already made breakfast and It's almost lunchtime and I have to start preparing lunch. How did you sleep?" His mother asked him as soon as he got to the kitchen. She was eating her breakfast and he realised she also woke up late. "I slept well, thank you, mother. I was supposed to make you breakfast today." He placed a kiss on her cheeks. "I would've appreciated that son but I couldn't sit around waiting for you. You can do that tomorrow." "That's okay. I can live with that. I'll be busy on Monday. I have to make sure the kingdom is safe for the royal guests that are coming." Gail hated that he was working more than he should, his life was dedicated to people who didn't give a damn about him. She also knew no matter how much she tried reasoning with him it would never work, Mercy kingdom and his family was his world. "You know how much I hate the way you put your life at risk for people who don't care about you. They don't deserve your loyalty and yet you give it to them." "Ma, there's no point in having this conversation. You know it won't change anything. Mercy is my kingdom and it's my duty to protect it and its people. I'm not doing it for them, I'm doing it because it gives me peace of mind. It also helps keep you safe and your safety is everything to me." "We can always leave. We can go anywhere you want, as long as you don't have to overwork yourself over a kingdom that has never been friendly to you. It breaks my heart. I made a promise to myself that I will protect you with my life and I've failed miserably. Not only did I fail myself, but I've also failed you and everybody." "You didn't fail me, mother. You've always been there for me. I would never wish for a better mother. You are everything a son could ever ask for. We are not leaving this kingdom, we are not cowards. If people of this kingdom think we will leave because of the cold shoulder they give us, they have another thing coming." "I never wished for any of this to happen. I wish I had decided to run away as soon as you were born, I guess maybe a part of me wished Kelvin would accept you as you grew up. What happened though was far from the truth." "Ma, a Fairchild never runs away from his problems. You taught me that remember? I am a Fairchild and I will never run away from my problems and neither will you." "You are wise beyond your years, always have been. I guess I should be grateful for having you. I just wish I could've done something when you were born, something that would keep you out of this madness." "I know if you had a chance of getting me a loving father you would've done so. My father hates me and there is nothing we can do about that." "Stop saying that, your father doesn't hate you. He just hates me for being in his life in the first place. If it were up to him, he would've looked the other way." "That is his fault and you shouldn't have to suffer for it." "It doesn't matter now. I made my bed and now I have to lie in it. Finish your breakfast and continue with what you planned on doing for the day." "I'll be back before dinner. I'll help you with it, it's been long since we cooked together." He flashed her a megawatt smile. They both know he hates cooking, well except making breakfast. It was his favourite part of the weekend. "If anyone was to pass by that door, they would believe you love cooking." "I for one don't believe my brother can cook and if he does then I'm sure he is always forced to do so." Princess Malia said coming to the kitchen to join them. "Good day princess. How are you today?" Gail asked her. "You know I hate it when you call me that. It makes me feel like I'm not your daughter." "I'm sorry baby. You know your father hates it when I call you by your name or my daughter." "Father can go to hell for all I care. I just don't want you treating me like you're not part of this family. You are one of us and you deserve to be treated as such." Logan decided to change the conversation into something else. It's not like this is the first time. Malia hates it when she is called a princess by him or his mother. She believes that the title should be spoken by everyone but the royal family and Logan and Gail are part of the royal family. "What brings you here, baby sis? You know you don't come to check on us every day." "Who said I came to check on you? Big brother, I see you every day. You're not the only one living in this house. I believe a daughter must come and check on her mother every morning and that's what I'm here to do. Not to check on you. I have responsibilities as a daughter you know." She kept smiling all the time, she was so sweet and Logan knew he was going to give anything to see her like that all the time. She always had a smile on her face, unless she was really pissed and no one wanted to cross a pissed off, Malia. "Let me leave you girls to discuss whatever women discuss when they are together. I have a kingdom to protect." "Be safe out there. It would be a shame to lose you. Who knows what would happen if you were to die. And before you even ask I would never grieve." She was pulling his legs and he knew it. "You're a little devil, Princess Malia Morgan." He said to her smiling, she hates it when he calls her that. "And you love me for it. Don't call me that again. On a serious note though, be safe out there." "I will baby sis. Bye." He stood up and planted a kiss on both their cheeks and left to do what he does every day, patrol the borders of the kingdom, and make sure it is well guarded. During the week he would go to every village he can manage and try and check if everyone was safe and he usually goes back home very late, sometimes midnight. During the weekend, he is always around the palace guarding it. He is not a guard but still, he does. It is also one of his chances of seeing his father and brother. Since he is not allowed to enter the palace anyhow, he knows his only chance is during the weekend where he can guard the kingdom and see them inside the palace all day long. It was his time to go home when one of the guards came to him and said he was sent by the young prince to call me. "Are you sure of what you're saying?" He asked him. "Are you suggesting that I'm lying? Do you know the consequences of accusing the heard guard of lying?" "Stop being an i***t Neo. I was born a few years earlier than you so I know more than you know. I also know the consequences of disrespecting a prince. You can disrespect me behind my back but I will not appreciate it if you do it in my face. I'm older than you on top of that. You will not disrespect me again, are we clear?" "Yes, Your highness." "Good. Now you were saying?" "The young prince invited you for dinner tonight. He asked me to pass the invitation to you." "My brother invited me to dinner?" "Yes, my prince." "Tell him I'll be there." "Yes, my prince." After Neo left he couldn't help but wonder why Kade invited him. For all, he knew his brother never wanted to be in the same space as him. Maybe he wanted to start afresh, you know have a relationship with him. His brother despised him and he could never invite him unless he wanted something from him and he was suddenly brought to reality. He was never going to win him over. What could he possibly want from him?
