Chapter One

1121 Words
Isaac's POV Isaac has decided what he is going to do about his new-found mate, Celeste. He needs to talk to her. Everything she has been through, now he is going to be the one that will break her heart. He had been waiting almost thirty-six years for his mate and now he was going to lose her. It's not definite, but he's almost certain. Calling Matt, one of his team members that is watching over Celeste right now, he gave the order for everyone to evacuate the house. He needed to speak with Celeste alone. Matt is confused, but does as his boss tells him to. Isaac sees his team waiting outside the house for him. Once he exits his truck, he dismisses everyone. They are not to return to work until he calls them. They have been working hard and deserve a vacation. Isaac is staring at the house in front of him. It used to belong to Celeste's adoptive parents. They were murdered by a client her father represented. His days are numbered. His associates that were involved with the murders of Max and Maggie are dead already. He contemplates whether he should do this now. Looking around, he had no choice. He sent his men away. Upon entering the home, he notices it's quiet, too quiet. Today is not only Celeste's eighteenth birthday, but also Christmas Day. He left early that morning after he became aware he was Celeste's destined mate. He panicked. Slowly he walked around downstairs, but there was no trace of Celeste. Calmly he searched for her. She must be in her parents' room. Following the stairs up, he peaked into the first bedroom. She wasn't there. Next, he checked the bathroom. Nothing. Her bedroom door was open just enough, he saw her lying on her bed. Her scent had been filling his nostrils since he walked into the house. Cinnamon and lavender. That cool, calming, warm, but simulating feeling. He just stood there inhaling her scent. Bandit wanted him to go to her and claim her as theirs. His head was being rational, maybe too rational. Wolves are possessive by nature. Most wolves tend to mate within hours of meeting. Some f*ck within minutes. Isaac doesn't want to do that. Lies, he does, but cannot bring himself to do that. His conscience holds too much, he needs to release some of it. As he stands there staring at his mate, who isn't as tiny as many others, he wants to go to her. He jumped back as she bolted up from her bed, spinning around to face him. He was rooted to the floor, scared. He watched her eyes widen. "Isaac?" She was happy to see him? "You're my mate?" It was a question she whispered. "Celeste." He closed his eyes as they started to water. He couldn't stop the tears from falling no matter how hard he tried. He was racked with guilt. Not just for the secrets he kept about her family, but because it was his original plan to reject her. Looking at her now, he knew. It wasn't just the mate bond, they shared something stronger. Since she was in her mother's womb, it has always been there. He continued to watch her through the opening of the door. Slowly he pushed it open. Celeste was just standing there, the more he stared at her the more her smile faltered. One foot in front of the other, it felt like miles until he was standing in front of her. Six steps was the reality. Celeste was about six feet tall, so he didn't have to bend down much to look at her. "Celeste." He whispered her name. Fear gripped his heart. Maybe she didn't want him to be her mate. He wanted to touch her, feel her in his embrace. Like the previous weeks when she would fall asleep on his chest. Some relief washed over him as she finally looked up to him. Tucking her hair behind her ears like he has done so many times before. He felt her shiver as he traced her jawline with his fingers. The raw emotions he was feeling just from a simple touch, caused him to want to touch her more. He cupped both sides of her face while running his thumbs over her cheeks. Neither one of them spoke. Celeste had closed her eyes, leaving Isaac unsure. He just continued to stare at her, willing her to open her eyes. She didn't. "Celeste, I want to kiss you. May I kiss you?" Still not opening her eyes, her head slowly bobbed up and down along with his hands that were still gently holding onto her. Isaac still searched her face for any sign she was not comfortable with this. He left his eyes open as he slowly lowered his lips to hers. Once they softly touched, it felt like fireworks were going off in his entire body. He continued to give her small pecks, in case she no longer felt comfortable. As he lingered longer and longer with each kiss, she grabbed his wrists. He thought she wanted him to stop, so he removed his lips from hers and rested his forehead against hers. He thought her kisses were amazing, she tasted like watermelon. He refused to open his eyes now. He didn't know what to expect. She connected her lips to his firmly. He wasn't expecting that. He moved his left hand to the back of her head, bringing them even closer together. Celeste willingly opened her mouth, allowing Isaac access. He thought of nothing else except kissing Celeste. He poured his passion, fear, anxiety, love, every emotion he had into his kiss. All of his emotions were fuel for the burning fire he felt for her. He reluctantly pulled away so they could breathe. "You have no idea how happy I am that it's you." He didn't know what to say to her words. Removing his hands from her, he took a few steps back. He began rubbing his face with his hands, then they went through his hair. He was fighting a losing battle and he knew it. He's kept these secrets to protect her, now she's old enough to know. She deserves to know. He is the one that has to tell her. "Isaac, is there something wrong? Are you not happy we are mates?" No emotion came through when she asked those questions. "Yes, Celeste. Everything is wrong. It's not fair. At first I wasn't happy, but now I am. Goddess. There are things I need to tell you. You may just hate me and want nothing to do with me. I will fully understand."
