Meeting My Niece

Ava           The most exciting moment of our lives has arrived       “Push! Come on you’re close!” I was trying to encourage my sister. Today she was having her baby. On her wedding day! Right after the priest declared them husband and wife and while they kissed, her water broke.     All the guests were shocked while we hurried her to the car to take her to the hospital. As soon as we put her in, she looked down at her dress. She couldn't help but let out a painful groan.     “My dress is ruined!” She yelled and I could hear Luciano laugh next to her.      “Why are you laughing?” I asked him confused. This was not a laughing matter.      “It feels like Deja Vu” he replied “on her wedding day when I took her, she looked down at her dress and said the exact same words".      Surprisingly, Piper was laughing at the comment. I rolled my eyes at how cheesy that sounded. Enzo was driving the car as fast as he could to the hospital. And now here we were. My sister was finally having her little girl.     “Come on Piper, you need to push” I heard the doctor say “you’re almost there, one more push and your little princess will be here”.     Piper pushed one more time and the baby was out. Her cries were so loud that I said “you are up for fun parenthood”.      Piper and Luciano laughed and after cleaning the baby, the nurses handed her to him and he sat next to Piper.      “Our little princess is here,” he said with tears in his eyes. I could see them looking at their daughter with love. It was the first time I saw Luciano cry with joy. He is a very tough man to handle and I am glad Piper was able to tame him. And now with this little addition to the family, he would be an even better person. And I was totally sure he would be a great father.     “What are you naming her?” I asked smiling down at that little bundle of joy.     “We’re naming her Eliana, that was my mother’s name” Luciano mentioned looking down at his little princess. He kissed my sister while handing her my niece so she could feed her.      “I’ll step outside” I leaned closer to kiss Piper’s forehead “enjoy the moment, I was so happy to be a part of it, thank you".      "You are my sister. Of course I wanted you here to meet my daughter. Besides, Luciano and I decided you and Enzo will be her godparents" at these words, my heart jumped of joy. I hugged her being careful not to squeeze my niece.     I walked out of the room and saw Enzo sitting in a chair in the hallway. I sat next to him “She’s beautiful” I said taking a deep breath feeling content “they’re a happy family”.      “Yes they are” he said looking down. I looked at him with narrowed eyes. He looked serious or maybe sad.     “You can have a family too Enzo” I mentioned trying to take his hands in mine but he pulled it away quickly.      “I don’t deserve a family, I don’t deserve love, hell I don’t even deserve friends” he said looking straight at me with anger. My heart really hurt for him.     “Everyone does, especially you” I said holding his hand tightly again and making sure he won't snatch it away “you’ve been nothing but a great man. You’ve helped my sister, you saved me and my dad. And you’re very loyal to Luciano. Tell me if not you, who else deserves to be happy?".     He squeezed my hand and gave me a small smile “I won’t put whoever loves me in danger just because I was selfish to make them fall in love with me. It’s a dangerous life the one I live, she won’t deserve it”.      He stood up and walked to the room where Piper and Luciano were with Eliana, leaving me sitting there. I just let out a deep breath.     “I’ll make sure to make you change your mind, I won’t give up on you, not ever” I muttered to myself. I was not going to let him live a life of loneliness. Enzo     I went in the room and the sight was unbelievable. Who would have thought Luciano would find his soulmate and have a family? I once had my own. A beautiful wife and a very smart little girl. They were my life and I lost them years ago.      And here I am, enjoying my new family when I should be looking for them. They disappeared and I haven't been able to find them. I was losing all hope as years went by. I was lost in thought, remembering them.     “Dad! Please push me higher!” My daughter screamed and laughed on the swing while I pushed her.      “Dinner is ready! Come on in!” I could hear my wife calling us. We both ran inside to get our dinner and enjoy my family’s chat and laughter. I had a normal life. The white picket fence, a dog running all over the house, and my beautiful girls completing my existence.     After dinner, I tucked my daughter in her bed. "I love you daddy" she said before she finally fell asleep. As I was heading to my room I saw a window open. I don’t remember leaving it like that. I looked out and didn’t see anyone. Saw a trail of blood on the hallway and at the end, my dog was lying dead on a puddle of it. I walked back to my room and when I went in my wife wasn’t there. I looked all over the house for her.     “Melissa!!!” I screamed. How could I not notice someone was in the house? They snuck in and silently took my wife. I realized that my daughter might also be in danger so I immediately ran to her room and she was not there either. I frantically kept looking for them, without any success.     Someone kidnapped my family but I swore to myself that I would find them. That I would find the bastard that did this. I would make sure whoever took them paid for it.           “Enzo?” I was pulled out of my thoughts by Piper “would you like to hold her?”.     I was hesitant, but I needed to feel her in my arms. I picked her up, swayed her back and forth and took in her beauty and innocence. My daughter would have been 10 years old now and I’m sure she would have said how pretty the baby was. But she was taken from me five years ago. My little angel.      After holding the baby for a little while, I gave her back to Piper. “I gotta go back to the house, have to do some cleaning in the basement” I told Luciano, him giving me a knowing look. He knew I was going to clean our arsenal.      I drove off in my car and when I finally arrived at the house, I couldn’t help but break down in sobs. I sobbed like a little kid. I needed to find my family and I needed to find the bastard who took them from me.
